'This is a dire emergency- disengage safeties!'
'Captain, that's too dangerous! Disengaging safeties on the Realmscorcher will make it extremely predictable and average!'

Maybe we can just sharpie over the 'dis' part of 'disengage' and then it'll make sense. I'd expect disengaging safeties to do something like, say, go from 6D6 to 8D6 but take a mortal wound for each roll of 1, or something along those lines.

Curious to see if there's a mechanism for removing heat points, since as previewed it looks like they only disappear when they cause damage.

My read of that is no mater how many wounds you took, you dropped one heat.

But you were only doing the wound dice check after triggering the overcharge, which generates at least one heat. So heat could only go up during the game. It would make sense to have a rule where if you didn’t generate any heat points you’d drop one at the end of the turn. Or just keep putting fuel on the fire and not allow things to cool off until after the battle. One way inferno ticket!

Dropping Heat may be one of the RoI's army abilities.

Defo needs an FAQ.

I’m reading it that Heat Points stack and remain turn to turn, only being lost as they cause wounds.

So let’s say it’s turn three, and my Cogfort has accrued 12 Heat Points. This turn I cause 2 wounds to myself out of the 12 dice rolls. That then lowers my Heat Points total to 10 going into the next turn?

But it could genuinely be read either way, that all Heat Points are lost for every dice rolled, whether they were a 5+ or not. I don’t favour this one myself, as it would be cleaner* to just say “then remove all Heat Points”. It also makes it less of a downside, as you don’t really have much to lose from over clocking it each and every turn. Whereas if you only remove when it’s a 5+? The more you push it, the greater the chance asploding yourself.

*Yes I know this is GW.

The new orders rule is an interesting way to encourage people to take more different units instead of 3 of each of the best units.

I'll admit it took me about three reads to get my head around "Aggressive Defenders", but the ability to essentially negate Retreat is pretty massive.

And Gallants getting +1 attack just for holding ground are going to make them a grinder. I see nothing i dislike about any of these rules.

I mean it really comes down to the UK government going nuts though. That's the root cause of all of those issues.

I've heard conflicting news about whose fault it is (is it government paranoia or a lazy company? Can't say I am necessarily passionate about defending either).

That said, probably a side track for the topic.

Interesting that the outlaw forts anyone can take don’t get to overheat, but the cannon one is a giant buff bot in addition to just shooting things. As it can join so many lists, would be interesting to see what synergy could be had; some armies might not have easy access to some of those…

Oh neat, the AoR gets two unique Cogfort variants. I mean it's just "swap the top gun from the other two", but it's neat to see all the same.

A nice touch indeed.

I'm guessing the ROR version has a specific datasheet which won't feature any COS keywords on abilities.

Neither have the Heat options. The flame version removes the Cities Keywords from the Transport abilities, the big gun one adds a buff power with a selection of abilities that target any non-Unique unit.

These Cogfort conversions are hilarious and i love them

The Tzeentch one in particular is terrifying.

So tempting to give it a shot myself. But once you start adding extra kits on top of an already expensive base, it soars well past the “how much am I spending on this project?” For something that might never actually hit the table…

I don't like the Cogfort and I agree that it's way too expensive for me to combine it with other, also expensive kits.

But that's a fantastic little web article! Some really great ideas there - the fort on top of the beetle is probably my favourite, and that Tzeentch one is bonkers.

Yeah, it's a great article, very inspiring.

Unfortunately I suspect that in an edition or two GW will ensure that Cogforts can only be taken by Cities of Sigmar armies, thus making these conversions useless
