Hi everyone,

This is my ongoing painting & modelling blog full of custom builds and other random crap I've made (or in process of making) for various Games Workshop games.

This is a very old blog now with tons of random chat and various WIP pics (not all of them that great and some I've removed) so if you'd rather just see the good 'finished' pics skip a head a few pages or go over to my gallery page on here and have a look there.

alternatively, check out instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ghostflame_visions/

Cheers for reading, enjoy!

Scavvy Gang/Mutants Project "The Underboys"
Couple of things I'd just like to mention first:

1. I have to give a big shout out to PDH! I'm not sure if you have seen his work yet, here is a link to his stuff: http://www.dakkadakka.com/core/gallery-user.jsp?u=32193 but its truely amazing, chance finding on google and inspired me to have a go at building these guys...and join Dakka!

2. This is my first modelling project in 15 years and first ever proper custom-build/photography project. It was a steap learning curve but I'm 90% happy so far, cheated a bit with the bases, they are from Dark Art Minis but will be adding to them...hope you enjoy!

Titan, Lucius Bile "The Ghoul King" & Talos. I wanted the Scalies (PDH inspired) to have a Fallout 3 Super Mutant feel to them...

Scylla, Kraken & Cerberus. Kraken still needs work, as doodled. Cerberus actually has 3 heads though only two can be seen in these pics (and in the game rules), anyone seen "How To Get Ahead In Advertising"?.

Gargoyle, Ol'Rot Eyes & Vulture. Gargoyle has tox-bombs (Boss only in new edition rules, duh!) and is ment to look a little like The Green Goblin from Spiderman. Ol'Rot Eyes is ment to look a bit like the head creature from "The Thing". Vulture will have feathered wings as doodled.

Rat-shot, Boooma & "Small" Pox. A total PDH rip-off here (sorry mate just loved 'em and had to have a go!) Midgets!

Ghostface, Wretch & Shudders.

Chop-chop, Rusty & Meatbag. Chop-chop is "The Ghoul King's" Executioner, Rusty the Armourer and Meatbag...yeah you guessed it Butcher/Head Chef haha!

...and finally

Reaper, Mr. Burns & Fallout. Its very, very unlikely I'll ever need these guys. Scavvies can't normally have special weapons and are crap shots anyways but just incase I get a lucky skill roll I built a plasma, a flamer and a grenade launcher/mini morter guy too!

And thats it so far...need to paint and build some Plague Zombie followers but that will have to wait for a bit. Thanks for viewing and all comments welcome!
Cheers
Ghostflame

I log on to give Baiyuan crap about painting, which is always fun, and get a nice little surprise that a new scavvy thread has reared is scabrous head. Two birds one stone. Having not done much for 15 years you've done a marvellous job on these boys.

The boss is just cool, looks like a scavvy boss should look. Really like the power sword.

The scallies are nice...like the gas powered spear gun .

Ah ghoul leg kroot torso combo my favourite.

Winged mutant is ace....love the tox bombs....sod the rules. IMO the current scavvy rules blow anyway.

Chop Chop and meatbag made me smile.

The specialists are optimistic but cool models all the same....The flamer and mortar guy especially.

Now I'm looking forward to you hitting them with some paint.

Very cool....I'm off to tell my friends.

Thanks a million guys! Really glad y'all like 'em.

Well the first time around I played Van Saar and thought this lot were sh#t haha but def much more fun to make!

PDH - Thanks for the inspiration and I hope you didn't mind me borrowing some ideas.

Yep, I shall endevour to do so mate...will have to buy some paint first though Again haven't painted anything in years either so will have to do a few 'practice' models first I think.

I got somewhat distracted by our Inquisitor 28mm chat the other day, but will def come back to these soon!

Cheers All!

Thanks Vitruvian They're all plastic heads from the GW VC Zombie boxset (edit-Oh 'cept for the Midgets they're VC Ghouls-edit). I tried not to repeat the same head type more then twice in the gang...I did greenstuff a bit more 'life' back into them though, as scavvy's aren't undead, they're just really, really nasty!

For plague zombies I'll probably use a mix of Mantic ghoul/zombie parts as they'll look different compared to the GW ones I used on the Gang.

Do a P&M blog! Show to us how it's done! I'm planing on doing a zombie-ish 40k army, andknowig the parts you used would be a good start for me, and i know every chaos guy out there could pick up some tips as well.

Aw cheers guys!

Heartserenade - I'd love to but honestly I've struggled to find the time to build these...if I get 5 mins later I'll put together something basic to show all parts used and how to fit 'em for one of the basic gangers (like Wretch or Shudders).

Thanks Capitansolstice & Inquisitorlewis! Ok this is my last post on here now untill I have something worth showing you guys. Cheers for all the great comments!

Heartserenade asked for a P&M blog but the best I can do tonight is a rushed parts diagram with some notes below but y'all should get the idea:

Heads:
H1 - Zombie
H2 - Ungor
H3 - Ghoul
Any of these will work great but my fav. is Zombie with extra greenstuff features added.

Torso:
T - Kroot warrior.
You may need to cut the bottom to achieve a better fit to legs and GS any gaps.

Arms:
A1 - Kroot, great weapons but weird fingers.
A2 - Ungor, bulkier, small hands though, work great with Grot hands/weapons.
A3 - Ghoul, skinny.
A4 - Zombie
All arms work but some will need trimming, pinning and GS.

Legs:
L1 - Zombie
L2 - Ghoul
Legs will need the waist trimmed to fit the Kroot body.

Weapons
W1 - Grot pistols (& A1 - Kroot rifle)
For CC weapons Zombie or Ungor clubs, bones, axes etc.

finally bitz
B1 - Kroot stuff, lots of knives, bags, bones all great stuff.
B2 - Orc armour, ammo pouches etc, all rough and ready gear.
B3 - Zombie bitz, severed heads etc horror!

Cool stuff, mate! PDH-inspired minis are always a good thing, but you've got some unique stuff going on too. Very creative. The mortar zombie is my favorite.

FYI: PDH is shamelessly using your thread to distract from his own lack of productivity, just like he is bullying me into painting, just to keep people of his back, while he let's us wait for any progress on his side.
But then again, your thread deserves the PR and I need the buttkicking...

Also PHD provided link showed me here (thanks for that).

Some really nice stuff there. They will look even more cool once some paint on them.

Great work on pulling off the scavvy imagery, with those skills and current range of plastics I can't wait for future results.

Rusty, Wretch and Shudders have to me my favorites. They each have so much character! I love the very pose shudders is in; hunched, bent in on himself, it's grotesque, and hideous. Rusty and Wretch carry on the masterful posing, Wretch seems so confident, as he strides forward, relaxed and self assured. I could imagine him being the next in line for command almost, once the Ghoul King dies. Rusty is great too, I love the welding mask. Very Fallout inspired. Now for some very small constructive criticism. Rusty is a lovely miniature, and I love his mismatched proportions, but his weedy thin legs bug me. It's not so much the legs per se, it's more the fact he is a tank from the balls up, covered in armour plates, and from the balls down, he's wearing a pair of skinny jeans. You seem very competent with modelling putty, otherwise I wouldn't suggest it, but have you thought about maybe sculpting on some extra armour on his lower half? I think it'd really satiate the itch that's bugging me. Other than that, beautiful miniatures, I'll be sub'd to this thread and will follow it with great interest.

Hi all, just a quick update, I've been slightly side tracked building an Inquisitor 28mm warband, who are nearly complete now (well to same WIP standard as above), which I'll add to this blog in the next update if people would like to see them too? After that I'll be solely painting till both projects are finished so promise some better pics soon, I know WIP shots just aren't as interesting as the real deal!

Have to say never been a fan of Scavvy gangs UNTILL NOW !!!! these have been a great use of kits the leader and heavies are the best but all look great and the grots with gaul's heads ingenious Just great cant wait to see more …..
Thank you LDDog but as Baiyuan mentioned I cant really take credit for the grot/ghoul midget crosses, I borrowed it from PDH, but these are my take on 'em, glad you like.
From that I'd guess you have not seen PDH's and Shockwave's scavvie gangs, they are just as great as this one!
Baiyuan funny you mention this. I discovered Shockwaves Scavvies when about 80% complete with these guys and thought "Oh crap, someone else bet me too it" haha, some similar ideas, I do like them alot too but PDHs gang has still set the bar in my mind.
Can't say enough good things about these guys. You've inspired me to get a mutie gang going for my Inq28 project. Can't wait to see your continued progress!
Thank you Dexter yeah that was my plan too, they'll duel as NPC mutant scum-bags in Inquisitor 28mm.
Rusty is a lovely miniature, and I love his mismatched proportions, but his weedy thin legs bug me. It's not so much the legs per se, it's more the fact he is a tank from the balls up, covered in armour plates, and from the balls down, he's wearing a pair of skinny jeans.
Ghosty I'm really glad you like these and yes very well observed thank you for the heads up...you can miss these things when only looking at models from above, at proper eye-level it is clearer. Originally Rusty was pulling a huge overfollowing ammo box behind him with his club arm (a little joke coz (in original rules) Scavvy Ammo rolls were really bad..the King got feed up with it and ordered him to go resupply his vile brothers). I choose those legs because they gave him the feel of shuffling along trying to pull this massive weight behind him. Sadly I just couldn't quite get it too work and there was no way it would all fit on a standard base so I lost the idea, now he's just got a dodgey leg I'll see about extra armour, but tbh atm I can live with it and have other things I'd like to do, will re-look before priming them all.

Again thanks all and cheers to all suscribers!

R
