Hey folks. I started my first blog(Casey's 'Nids: Hive Fleet Blackbird) on the 1st of February this year, yes 7 days ago. No, i'm not insane! Basically i haven't been home a lot and this project is much easier to box up and move around with me quickly. So my Tyranid blog is my main project right now but i need somewhere to track this, smaller project: and here we are! Updates will likely be slow for most of the time but occasionally will pick up pace.

Infinimunda!? I hear you lament. Well, again, i haven't lost the plot. My interest in Infinity and particularly it's models has driven me to use Infinity models for my Necromunda gang. I'm using Nomads and few Yu Jing for the time being as they fit the look i'm going for.

I've been interested in the narrative aspect of Necromunda for a while so i've decided to build my own gang. If i have a skirmish game and something particularly interesting happens to one of my characters then i may well make a new model for them to represent the event. I'll build a campaign eventually if i can find some folks to play with, if that happens i'll buy a backlog of models and possibly make alterations to a character after each game. Anyway, for now there is ten members and this is the list:

House: (Counts as)Van Saar
Name: La'Rua 005
Ui' (Mal'caor'ui N'munda ) Gang Leader: Lasgun, Meltagun, Chainsword, (Bonding)Knife - 265c
(Saar'la N'munda Aranthus) Heavy 1: Lasgun, Heavy Stubber, Knife - 205c
(Mal'caor'la N'munda ) Heavy 2: Lasgun, Knife - 85c
(Mal'caor'la N'munda ) Ganger 1: Lasgun, Knife - 75c
(Mal'caor'la N'munda ) Ganger 2: Lasgun, Knife - 75c
(Delaq'la N'munda ) Ganger 3: Lasgun, Knife - 75c
(Shas'la Dal'yth Or'es) Ganger 4: Laspistol, Knife - 65c
'Vickie' (Shas'la Dal'yth Shi) Ganger 5: Lasgun, Knife - 75c
'Rusty' (Shas'saal Il'fannor Rusty) Juve 1: Laspistol, Knife - 40c
'Carny' (Shas'saal Il'fannor Carnelian) Juve 2: Laspistol, Knife - 40c
Total: 1000c
(Helmawr'o N'munda Artemis ) Rogue Trader: Spyrer Patriarch Hunting Rig

As you can see i haven't named anyone yet and i haven't even named the gang. I have made a start on the fluff though if you are interested:
[He hasn't been given a name yet so i have inserted _underscores to hold the place where the name should be entered.]
Imperial Guard, Lord Marshal _, born of Terra, is posted with his fleet in the Ultima Segmentum to slow the Tau expansion.
A long time spent fighting and learning the ways of the Tau doesn't go unnoticed and he is soon trained and indoctrinated as an Inquisitor of the Ordo Xenos.
Now, Inquisitor Marshal _, his unparalleled knowledge of the species turns to intrigue and quickly spirals into obsession.
During a short term at home on Terra he spends time with an old friend who is serving a period as Inquisitorial Representative. The friend finds his behavior concerning but as a final act of friendship and due to a sense of loyalty he simply arranges for him to meet with The Speaker for the Chartist Captains. The Speaker seems wary of engaging in conversation but offers a Warrant of Trade before dismissing him.
There are only two personal conditions of the Warrant issued. Firstly, the boundaries of his jurisdiction are Tau airspace and the surrounding areas. Secondly, he must aid in policing the Underhives of the Segmentum Solar. The latter condition is soon embraced by the Marshal as a perfect method of training his recruits.
_ slowly integrates himself with the Tau and begins recruiting individuals to work in all parts of his fleet and armed forces. To ensure their is no animosity between species he commands there be at least two Tau recruits in each unit that are sent to the Underhives.
His interest in Tau technology eventually leads him to upgrade most of his Imperial Sanctioned tech.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The individuals sent to the Underhive receive, arguably, the best training in the galaxy although they don't all come out alive, if at all. They go in as individuals but those that come out come out as a unit with a bond that cannot be broken. Not only do they have to contend with and purge unruly gangs and outlaws but their Tau companions put the entire unit in the firing line of any other policing force they encounter. If they make it out they are prepared for anything. To add to their problems, they are only issued with Imperial weaponry and low level Tau tech, this includes a flight suit which doubles as armour. This isn't due to a lack of Tau resources or the risk of losing expensive weaponry but simply that it would make it far too easy for them. Each unit is expected to complete a few random objectives, often delivered to them while they are already in the Hives, and most importantly they have to try and survive until they have served their full time. Anyone who manages to exit early will be turned away on return to the fleet or, often, simply killed for disobedience.

Without further delay, here is where i am at now(right at the beginning):

Cool idea!

I've often thought about something similar although I think i'd go with Ariadna models for mine.

I'll be watching for ideas (to steal of course)!

Thanks dude! You should definitely give it a go as well. It's a much bigger job than i thought it would be. The biggest thing is a new helmet sculpt, it's something you really have to do if you want them to look more uniformed. And no one seems to sell anything small enough.
I've made some small updates. Mainly to two of bases and gluing arms and weapons in place. Pictures tonight.

Pictures as promised!
First up is one of my Juves(Lets call him Juve 1):

My close combat Ganger had similar base treatment(Why you cut of ma feets?!):

And this Ganger had a quick bit of filling with some left over green stuff(He looks a little bit like a stumbling zombie because of that silly leg, green stuffing a finger so that he is actually pointing should solve that.):

I've started on a helmet but it's still very WIP(You'll have to zoom in but it's totally worth it, promise! ):

I'll need to do some work on the fluff. Might make that my next update come to think of it. All c&c is most welcome!

Nice progress!

For the helmets have you considered Pig Iron heads? They might be the right sort of size. A lot of people use them on IG but they can look a tad small for them. Might be worth a look!

Thanks man, yeh i looked into pig iron but they are huge in comparison to Infinity. I'll try and add a scale picture on my next update with whatever models i have around.
I've restarted the head based on plastic so i can get a smooth master sculpt for casting.

Yeah, I have zero chance of being able to sculpt something for anything smaller than a T.A.G.

You're right though, zooming in that helmet is going to be pretty cool. I particularly like the 1st Heavy, but I'm a sucker for miniguns since playing Syndicate back in the day.

Hey, Chem! Nah i think it's possible to sculpt onto them it just takes a lot of work and most importantly keep it simple. You should give it a go with blu-tac to build your confidence, maybe?
Thanks, i wasn't sure about the Minigun, i'm glad you like it!
Yeh, about the helmet... I re-sculpted it to get a nicer finish and i ended up leaving the gas mask canisters off and making the visor bigger. I'm going to have a go at casting it soon and i'll post it up to get some feedback. If you guys think i should go back to the gas mask style i'll make some changes!

Got a lot of gap filling done with green stuff and i sculpted feet on my Tau. Everything is starting to come together nicely, i'm quite happy so far. Fingers crossed that the heads are going to come out okay.
I removed an Imperial Guard shoulder pad from a spare arm and filed away the rest of the component. I'll be casting that piece as well and i've made room on the gangers for it.
Need some advice on Ganger 2's right arm, i'm not sure what to do with it... Thoughts?

Hey folks, as i said in my other blog i've not had much hobby time and most of what i have had has been spent playing with Oyumaru. Thought i'd throw a couple of quick pictures up on the thread to get feedback:
Here is the new helmet sculpt, i think i've figured out how to cast it now, fingers crossed.

Heavy 2 is having a WIP banner fitted.

Ganger 4 finally got feet.

And so did Ganger 5.

Thoughts? Sorry for the lack of updates.

The feet look good. Nicely sculpted on such tiny models.

Whats the plan with the banner? I mean thematically and all, since they're gangs and all right?

Thanks man, i was pretty proud of myself for getting all the details on, they were so small to work with.

As for the banner, theres a little bit of fluff at the top which gives an idea of why they are a bit alternative so i won't go into to much detail. Basically they are part of a Rogue Traders army, he considers himself to be an Imperial military man although he's outcast for his collusion with the Tau. He maintains some connections with the Imperium and uses a lot of there equipment. The banner and the shoulder pads(to come) will be adorned with his personal heraldry.
I really need to write it all out better, i hope that explains it well enough for now.

In other news, i think i've solved casting problems. Fingers crossed! If i'm right, helmets will follow shortly!

Yeah. I read the fluff about him being a little too interested in the Tau and whatnot. That'll provide some fun mods for later once you start playing some games. Hope the helmets work out for you!

Good news! Two models have helmets and i have one casting right now. The helmets are coming out a minuscule bit larger than the master but i'm happy with the quality and the size is fine imo. It's closer to heroic scale than true scale which brings the models firmly back into 40k land but they aren't so big that they look silly, they look like a head fits comfortably inside with a little tech. I think i have achieved my goal of sculpting a size which looks to scale on all of the models despite their stature differences.

Pictures speak louder than words. I haven't done the back of the head or the neck yet but here is the general idea:

Oh yeah, those look perfect! For some reason they remind me of Joker's emergency helmet/mask/thing in the opening of Mass Effect 2. Are the backs going to be open or closed?

Thanks, dude, i hadn't seen that mass effect thing before, i get what you mean though. I took drew on inspiration from memories but i think a few cues would be the Haze helmet and new Dark Eldar helmets. When i realised the similarity of my idea to DE helmets i actually tried to get a hold of them, i'm certain they'd be a bit big though.
I wanted to capture the idea of high quality tech and mix Tau and Imperial designs without it looking armoured. I imagine the visors would, maybe not break, but crack if punched. I don't think they'd stop a knife but the blade would get stuck part way in. A bullet or las shot would obliterate it. With that in mind i feel like the models still fit their stat lines convincingly. I realise you never asked but i thought i'd write down my process.
I'm thinking of making the backs and the necks fabric like the Tau Fire Warriors have, i wouldn't hold me to that though, i'm considering putting a tech module on the back too.
I'll get cracking on more helmets tomorrow.

Those are definitely looking sharp. I was worried about the shoulderpads but you have the size nailed down pretty well. Big enough to look like they offer protection but small enough where they don't look ridiculous. The gang is looking good!

So kind, thank you! Need to get a few small brushes before i get into the painting, thinking i'm going to get the Pro Arte MP set to start me out before i move onto Kolinsky.

When I was painting my last Hassassin, I used a Citadel Standard on the whole thing. Tiny brushes always dry up on me too fast, so I've kinda stuck with having a bigger brush that holds the paint longer.

I also haven't wandered out of the GW line of brushes... save for random stuff I use for glues, washing and drybrushing.

I genuinely don't think there is anything wrong with using all GW stuff, it's great kit. The reason i'm moving on is due to my own inadequacies, i really need a tiny brush for even big things. I'm just not a very capable painter. I've been reading and watching videos though so hopefully i've learned something for when i tackle these guys.

That reminds me, i need to get some custom decals done somehow.

Oh, I wasn't commenting on paint quality, just on what brushes I use and why. Hell, the reason I don't have any other brushes is primarily my comfort zone is the GW stuff. It's that 'if it ain't broke' sort of mentality.

Still, that mentality can also hold one back from getting better, so maybe I should check out some other brushes.

Come to think of it, I haven't seen anything you've painted yet. You definitely sculpt like a champ though.

Haha, thanks for the continued compliments! I think my sculpting is pretty average but i'm extremely chuffed that you're getting some joy from them.

Your painting is excellent already, Chem. I wonder if 'better' brushes would accelerate your abilities or just make the experience easier/more enjoyable? Apparently even small Kolinsky Sable brushes have a big belly on them which sounds like something you'd like. Check out this video!

I'll try and drop an update tomorrow night.

Got me some mutha-frakkin batteries. Theses guys are finished although i'll sweep them for flash before i start painting. I'll be ordering the rest of the boss tomorrow so hopefully he will be ready to join these guys soon(assuming he is delivered quickly). The images aren't great because i blew two bulbs so i'm down to one lamp. I'll take more pictures on request, particular models, angles or whatever.
Just a little FYI: The bases have textured 'tread plate' plasticard on them, i don't think it shows up on any of the pictures so far.
