Somewhere over the rainbow, way up high

Looks like a nasty piece of CC work.
http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Downloads/Product/PDF/t/tstalker.pdf
Would you consider taking one in your force? It can deep strike, and looks devastating on the charge
T7, 6 attacks on the charge, and sniper/poison weapons only hurt it on 6's as opposed to 2's and 4's
You can look for yourselves.

Honestly, I am HIGHLY tempted to pick one up.
Secondary question, would you consider it legal to field?
Cheers!

Oh yeah, I would definitely use one...or 3. Imagining the idea of 18 wraiths, 2 CCB Overlords and 3 tomb stalkers charging the enemy.... <* starts drooling *> I think that would be super fun.

Whether you can use it or not depends on your opponent. If going to a tournament, check with your TO (tournament organizer) first to see if it would be allowed.

I dunno. 195 points is a lot but with hit and run w/initiative 4 specifically he can just assault, get his +2 attacks, then wait for the opponents assault phase to break off then assault for +2 attacks again over and over. Feels a little over the top.

I would take one no problem. They are excellent units. I own one, but haven't put it together yet.

It's a sweet looking creature I would say, but by it's very nature I think it would draw a ton of fire when it showed up and you wouldn't get to use it as much as you would think. I would play against one any time, but I'm one of those strange guys that thinks most forgeworld should be legal.

I think their official entry has them at 205 points in the imperial armor book. Forgeworlds pdf is outdated

It's 205 points.

It's a nice unit but it is slow and has no inv. save or eternal warrior. Being an MC also makes getting cover saves almost impossible. Personally I would have given it a special rule to allow it to assault after deep strike and made the save invulnerable. The model is also ridiculous to assemble, and it is around 60 flimsy resin pieces.

It is a little frustrating at 205 points without the invulnerable, but I can see similar uses for it as a praetorian squad, shielded by the advance of wraiths or arks in an army with hungry HQ and Fast slots. Really weird unit. I love the toughness 7. The trick would be popping the transports in time for a charge.

It's just a show, I should really just relax... It's just a show, I should really just relax... It's just a show, I should really just relax... It's just a show, I should really just relax...

Am I missing something? I click on the pdf and in bold it says NECRON TOMB STALKER .................... POINTS: 195 right above the stat line, and i don't see any of it's special rules as options that cost 10 or anything.

That's an older, "outdated" stats for it. It is in the new Imperial Armour Apocalypse 2nd edition that just came out. A lot of the pdf's have been altered slightly in the new book to make them a little more balanced, including the tomb stalker, land raider achilles, the caestus assault ram and others.

I don't think it's as good as a C'tan for the points, but the model is awesome.

All in all, fact is that Warhammer 40K has never been as balanced as it is now, and codex releases have never been as interesting as they are now (new units and vehicles and tons of new special rules/strategies each release -- not just the same old crap with a few changes in statlines and points costs).

If you compare them to 4 spyders, the stalker is not that favorable. 4 Stalkers get 8 attacks, or 12 on the charge, so double. Same save, 12 wounds to 5, same strength. The Spyders can run, so really its down to:

Fleet for the slightly longer assault
Hit and Run to leave combats you are stuck in
Toughness 7

Compared to
2x the wounds
2x the attacks
really useful upgrades like Gloom or Fabricator Claws
4 Frikken scarab bases a turn!

4 spyders take up 2 HS slots though. A TS takes up one.
And spyders don't have that resistance against poison, and no night fight.

With the release of the new codex and how many better options there are in the heavy slots now, the tomb stalker is far outclassed by pretty much everything else you can take in that slot. If the tomb stalker was allowed to be taken in a unit of 3, then it would be perfect. But alas, since it's one model and very easy to pick out, it will die fast and you will be sad. I've shelved mine until a later unforeseeable future, it performed admirably in one fight and every other time it has failed miserably.

One thing about the tomb stalkers is that it is a fairly low model. Wraiths are fairly tall models. To me, it kind of makes sense to use the wraiths as a screening unit for the tomb stalker to give it cover.

It depends how you put it on the base. Wraiths are very thin, even though they're tall, so it's very difficult for them to screen. Destroyers would be better as a screen. Or just run it alongside an ark and have the ark turn sideways every turn for a wide block.

This thing assaults and says "I'm a monstrous creature with no invulnerable or eternal warrior, and initiative 4, and NO GRENADES. Hope nobody has an I6 force weapon, or S8 force weapon thunderhammers!"

it's fun, but it still isn't good. any heavy weapons or adequate CC unit will tear it a new one.

Yes, it was a good addition to the previous codex and it is sorely underwhelming with the new codex. Maybe in 6th it will be better, but I'm not holding my breath on that. For now, my 200 points will go towards vehicles, destroyers, royal courts, spiders, scarabs, monolith, or really ANYTHING that doesn't have flayed or ones in the title. Though honestly, even 200 points of flayed ones is probably FAR better.

There are still a few tricks with Flayed Ones I think people have yet to exploit. Though losing disruption fields really hurt Flayed Ones.

My buddy uses 2 of them, fairly successfully, the main issue is deployment. If they deploy on the board then they'll need time to get to their target, combined with the stormlord and some cover (the key is to build them low to the base to be able to conceal them, easily done) it's doable but you run the risk of attracting a buttload of fire. In itself this can be a good thing, it's a good psychological detterrent and distraction.

Then you can deepstrike them, which gets them closer, it can be risky with the large oval base, but with a decent chance of surviving the shooting phase they will massacre their target once it's their turn.

Definitely a competitive choice in my opinion.

With all the las/plas/melta (or equiv) around, they're not competitive for 205 points with no Inv save and 1 per heavy slot.

They are competitive, and comprable to taking a C'tan but they are fragile. Against the right opponent they are amazing. Ive found they tend to run better when deployed versus being deep struck. Deep striking can have 205 points hanging out for to long and basically they are guaranteed to not function form two turns. Turn 1 can't come out of reserve, and the turn they arrive, they can't assault. Jumping them out of a Monolith is a nice option if your a Monolith can survive, but again they can't assault when they do so. Their hit and run is their key to surviability and usefulness you can move farther by leaping out of the combat and get to move and fleet on your turn or to assault for the bonus attacks during your assault phase.

I own two of these. although I love them they are a huge hit or miss. I have ranthrough ork mobs plague marines and land raiders with them, but when faced with TH/SS termis they suffered, they have also been shot to death by lance or missle spam.

I wanna run them in a local GT which allows IA models in it, but my biggest concern is the popularity of grey knights, one unit only needs to wound the thing (on a 6, most of the time)and then a leadership check and BAM, its toast...

I'm gonna wait till IA 12 to determine the viability of these guys.
(no doubt when Forgeworld releases all their new Necron goodies at the end of the year(?), they'll have an update for this thing that will bring it in line with both the new codex AND the 6th Ed. rules)
...
however, if what they (FW) said was true, the Necron Super Heavies they're working on may see these guys relegated to the "yeah, they're pretty cool, but DUDE! Did you see the new Megalith and Medusa V Titan?!" pile.
