I got introduced to 40k roughly a year ago, but there isn't much play where I live. Still, I enjoy the painting. It's been a few months since I picked anything up to paint (moved), so I figured a thread I can update is good motivation.

I grabbed some reaper minis before moving for a dollar a pop, this was some drybrushing practice I got in today on a chaos spawn model.

The model is pretty simple and slick and lends itself to drybrushing.

I basecoat the model with codex grey.

Dark Flesh brushed over

Snakebite leather over the next layer.

As you can see I forgot to take the shots of the midsteps. Dheneb Stone, Kommando Kjaki, Scorpion Green, Ogryn Flesh and more. Here's a front image.

Backshot

All told I spent maybe 30 minutes on this so far. I'll update with basing/detail work later, I got a large amount of green stuff gifted to me that I've been scared to try. Here's to reentering painting!

(sorry about the pics, this is my fiancee's far-too-complicated-for-me camera)

Just a real quick post of some tabletop quality DE of mine. The bases are pretty bland and bad, but I'm waiting on a shipment to finally get here to rebase pretty much everything!

Going to post a shot of my warriors on a grander scale here and will post some shots of my vehicles later today. There's still a load of detail work to do, but I've had an epiphany that will be expressed with the vehicles! A few hellions and a wych are sneaking in the back, but they're out of focus and not important. Ha!

The detail is in the zoom, so clicky the image for more scrutiny

Edit: better yet, I'll show some detail meself!

Alrighty, here are the vehicles before I layer the markings and do actual edge highlights.

I suck at uploading images that are quality in small windows. It behooves you (if you're interested) to clock the images and peruse via zoom if you want quality detail.

Anyways about that epiphany. As I was taking these photos and looking over my first batch of DE it hit me that I hated them. I'll finish them, mind you, but I really don't like the look. They are typical, unoriginal and bland.

The next update of DE will feature a new scheme in general, as there's NO WAY I don't continue to paint these awesome freakin' models. Really, the DE look so damn cool and sleak even if they are evil bastards

PS: I will still finish these, maybe I can trade 'em!

To do list:

Chaos warriors
Snake queen
Human snake wizard
Oop (I think) Lizardmen army, I know little to nothing about fantasy and models, I just liked how these looked.

More DE of course!

So I grabbed an old and poorly constructed model and slapped on some paint for a different color scheme. I do like the edges on DE armor as they play to some cool highlights, as a whole it's a fun scheme to paint. Thoughts?

Just a few questions to whoever views this blog.

Being relatively new to minis and painting, I've had a hard time finding offbrand (not gw, pp or reaper) minis that are quality. I prefer plastic to metal, but really I just want bits that are unique and interesting to get started on conversions (any type, no specific direction yet). Also, what brushes do you guys use? I'm using cheapies, but an older article on FTW has me looking around.

Thanks!

I read this blog!

But I cant really help you with your question..... you will most likely get an answer if you ask in some of the numerous other forums here (try dakka discussion or the regular painting and modelling)

I also use cheap brushes (My local store doesnt have quality ones.....)

You're about the only one, and thanks for that!

Yeah, wargaming in Wyoming is practically non-existent aside from maybe 5 towns. I might just go online and grab something random, but not citadel brushes. I felt pretty ripped off by those. Looking forward to seeing more of your work by the way
