So I figured we have a thread about terrible ebay auctions already, why not one on awesome deals that people have gotten.

A few days ago I won http://www.ebay.com/itm/120872637603?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 for a whopping $30 shipped. The cauldron alone is listed elsewhere for $50 so once I resell the dark riders I'll have arguably one of the cheapest Cauldrons around!

So what great deals have you gotten of Ebay or even a trade site like the Swap Shop or bartertown?

I got a ton of stuff from a boot sale once (Don't know what you call boot sales in the US). Was a girl there selling her boyfriends stuff after a break up. Got about 200 quids worth for a couple of pounds. Puts ebay to shame.

I think we call them garage or yard sales(a sale at your home on the driveway or lawn).

I only wish I could make such a find like that. It might help if I actually went to yard sales ever lol.

Two limited edition marines for ~$15 each, both not fully labeled, both usually go for ~$65 each, used. One of mine was even still NIB.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

I just got him on bartertown for $5 last month. I've actually been seeing his price drop rapidly lately.

I obviously fail at searching eBay for great deals... everything I find is bid up enormously - sometimes over retail.

Paying $3-3.50 per genestealer is insane. Paying $100 for a painted Carnifex is equally insane - I don't care how good the paint job is.

Try to find auctions that end in the middle of a working week. Not so many people around to bid.

My best find was two sealed boxes of Necron Warriors and a sealed Ghost Ark box. Paid for £41 + £7 postage. A massive saving of £24 And yes, that was a mid week auction.

I picked up an all lead dwarf army, probably 1000-1500poimts in 3rd edition (only edition I really had any grasp of) for £55 + p&p; so about £65.

It included all of the White dwarfs to that point, Felix and Gotrec, the Dwarf lords of legend box minis, the original slotta Bugmans Rangers, Prince Ulthers Dragon company and a few other units of mostly Imperial and Maruder dwarfs, plus a few cannons and an organ gun...oh and gyrocopter....and about a dozen slayers.

Even if I sold it all for a £1 a dwarf I would still see a massive return (I will never sell this horde though )

I think it was one of those listed as dwarfs/dwarves type situations. Not allot of competition just me and some other berks who couldnt get the spelling right!

I once found the elusive and hard to find Imperial Command Post, one of GW's old card-and-bulkhead terrain pieces that was out during 2nd Ed. Was right there at the end of the auction... and got distracted and missed the end.

Although in later years I did manage to get Gideon Lorr, and the Necron Army box years after it came out, including the Ltd. Ed. Necron Lord.

It's the nature of the hobby (and indeed hobbyists) really, where people often impulse buy and then realise they haven't really got the time or inclination to finish a project or even open the box in the first place.

I often find myself selling stuff on in this regard and I find that it holds its value quite well... which is why I'm always amazed that I can pick some stuff up really cheap.

If you always miss auctions then I suggest this service:

May as well use an auction sniper. Everyone else does. Some sellers complain about sniping software. I do far more selling than I do buying, and I don't mind it one bit.

The one thing people may be hesitant about is, you have to enter your ebay user ID and ebay password. I have never had an issue and have been using the software for the last 8-9 months or so. I had even had a pay subscription at one point but didnt use it enough to justify the 5 dollars a month.

Automated sniping?! That takes the fun out of it. I love waiting until there's only four seconds left before making my bid

I don't use ebay enough to want to pay a subscription to something like that. Even if I did I probably wouldn't want the risk of my account getting hacked.

The best I've managed is about 2 seconds before the end. I love the adrenaline rush. (I know I need to get out more).

I just won an old Skaven Doomwheel for $9.50 shipped. It's painted/assembled and one of the wheels is broken off, but nothing some simple green and glue won't take care of. I'll have to see what condition it's in when it gets here, but it looked pretty decent.

Another time, I got a zombie dragon missing two limbs for $9 shipped. I'm not sure if I should count that as a win or not. They neglected to mention that it was a zombie dragon, and said it was only missing one limb. That was the only time I've left a non-positive review.

Still a decent deal, just not the deal I thought I was getting. One of these days I'll do something cool with him.

Sniping is fun.

Drunken sniping leads to having too many terminators.
