Specify religion down to 'Islam' and then it's right, I highly doubt many other religions, even cults would practice that sort of atrocity.

I specified that sort of atrocity, not any atrocity. I think the pasta worshiping religion is the only one that remains free of any taint. Regardless though, I am specifically mentioning this in regards to contemporary times. I think, don't know, but I think that any other religion would look at this case with a rather modern view and say 'you raped her, you face justice. Damn the honor'. However, all this being said, I fully admit to be horrendously biased

Perhaps you should read the Bible, I can think of a specific case in the OT where a man rapes his sister and she then wants him to marry her in order to keep what little honor she has left.

Irrelevant as European nations and America have committed atrocities in the name Christianity until recently. Saying that such atrocities are a "Islamic" problem is to ignore history.

I agree with that, but I disagree with Muslim bashing. There was a time when Christian nations were just as bad or worse.

I feel it more justified because while nations did do terrible things to their people and to each other, they did it in the past. As religions, societies, and as people, we have gotten over such false justice. The fact that nations in the world continue to enforce this sort of thing (being honor bound to marry a rapist), I see as being attributed to islam, because I have only seen this in islamic countries. If I am being unfair, I apologize, but I do not believe that I am.

I also am unsure if I am being clear so if I am not, I apologize in advance. Really trying to not offend to many people

So have muslims, jews, hindus, athiests, everyone has. It's war. My point is that most religions still don't do it based on religion alone.

For my own curiosity's sake though, what countries and when are you referencing?

Offhand, The Crusades, Catholic-Protestant warfare (both in mainland Europe and England), the Conquistadors, America's "Manifest Destiny", colonization of the 'savages' in Asia and Africa...and so forth.

I'll give you the Crusades and the beginning of the 30 Years War. But I'd argue that the Conqusitadors, the idea of Manifest Destiny, and the colonization of Africa and Asia cannot be pinned solely, or even mostly, on the concept of religion.

I'll also agree with you that almost no religion can claim to be spotless. But show me a nation that operates - through it's official government - mostly under a single religion that acts in the same way that Islamic nations do nowadays.

Manifest Destiny was nothing more then the American idea that we needed to conquer... everything. No religion, just a desire to rule. Same with colonization of most places, just replace 'American' with whatever country was doing the colonization, and actual monetary gain out of having ports set up across the oceans

Why does everyone instantly want to start bashing Christianity? There must be something similar in some eastern religious beliefs. Either way, I feel that you should've continued reading the thread as we've already discussed what you've mentioned

Making a statement implying that only Muslims have crrrrraaaaaazzzzyyy laws is as ignorant as forgetting that other religions have them, too.

It actually started with people bashing Islam, when Christianity is just as guilty of similar crimes and atrocities.

First, it doesn't matter if someone has committed a specific act or sin for them to report on it. If Hitler were magically alive, and he wrote an article about how bad the Armenian Genocide was, does it mean that the Armenian Genocide wasn't that bad? (The answer is no, by the way) Even though Hitler was worse, it doesn't change how bad or good the topic he wrote about was. Would it be hypocritical? Sure, but that has no bearing on the actual events covered. Moreover, you are saying that anyone who self identifies as a Christian has no right to say anything about religiously motivated murder because of the crusades? That makes so epically little sense, that combined with all the rum I have consumed, makes me not want to even come up with a rebuttal. Someone else, jump in.

How is it a terrible argument?

You could argue that it is the religion's fault or possibly that it is a cultural problem and that Islam is being misused as Christianity once was?

Singling out Islam as the lone 'evil religion' is a bit silly.

Keep reading that post, I don't support any theocracy that allows this to happen. Islamic, Christian, none. I mentioned that because nowadays Islam is the only one that seems to be doing the rather eccentric rulings in court. I'll be one of the first to start remarking on any other country that does a similar thing under a different religion
