Hi everyone,

Thank you for checking out this project log of mine.

For this project i'll be returning to my near 40k roots as it were, going back to the first marine chapter I truly fell in love with; Black Templars!

I'm not sure if it's the knightly thing going on, or the colours, or the theme behind them... either way, it's something i've grown to adore from them, so I thought i'd revisit them.

I know a lot of Black Templar rumours are floating around right now, so i've made a ,conscious decision to only concentrate on building Templar infantry for the time being, so then if/when the new codex is released, i'll have good infantry core to then flesh out with appropriate armour etc.

As for the basis of the models, this whole army is one big kit bash affair. I wanted to give a appearance to them that they had been on a long crusade without re-supply, with a lot of different, dirty colours to give them a real long time war feel. I also wanted to get more variety than both the Black templar and regular kits offer, so with that i've combined both Chaos marine and Khorne berzerker bits in too. I've been cautious to obviously use nothing too chaos-y, and remove any dodgy markings etc.

The feedback i've been given so far is that they are very close to the edge when purists are asked, but it gives them a gritty feel I think.

Here are some WIP photos of the first initiates in the first Crusader squad:

I'll have some more photos of the first painted squad a little later.

What do you guys think?

Many thanks!

"Eternal Crusade"...hmmm, seems almost like a loyal counterpart to my own force (see my sig). What a strange coincidence...

Anyway, you're off to a promising start! A nice selection of bits, although the Marine with the skull helmet looks a bit to much like a Chaos Space Marine in my opinion. But the others profit greatly from the careful addition of more archaic parts. Looking forward to seeing where this is going!

Thanks for the reply! I have some painted photos of the squad. These guys were completed a few weeks back.

They just require the FW decal set for Black Templars for some last bits, aswell as some small scripture.

Let me know what you all think.

Many thanks!

Very nice! I like the colors. What did you do for the black?

Also the bottom right guy in the first painted picture... where is that head from?

I hope my BT look half as good when I start painting them! Also subbed.

These are really nice. I approve. Keep it up.

Sparky: Thanks alot! The black is very simply chaos black with adeptus battlegrey line highlight. I kept the chaos black REALLY thin, it keeps the colour nice and flat.

Bottom right, is that stage right or monitor right? Either way, one is a Khorne Berzerker head without the horns (stage left), and the other is a chaos skull helmet from the chaos space marine sprue!

I should have the Neophytes that accompany this squad done by the end of the week!

Thanks again!

Great stuff, I look forward to seeing more of this. The red on the tabard looks especially good. If I have one criticism it's that they all look too clean. It looks like you're painting them really nicely, but to push your limit a bit maybe do some battle damage? Obviously, being Templars they'd always try to keep their armour as clean as possible, but some damage is bound to occur that won't just buff out!
I'll be checking back to see what else you come out with!

Very nice! You're not only talented at kitbashing but also quite an accomplished painter! I'm a bit jealous

Hey again guys,

Well, time for another update! This time the scouts are painted; here some photos:

They just need their decals from the FW Black Templar decal sheet, when I can get to ordering it!

And finally, the entire Crusader squad:

Let me know what you guys think!

As a heads up, the next squad will be a fire support Crusader squad with a few extra shotgun Neophytes, for extra flavour!

Many thanks!
