Well, this is something that came up on another board about the "strongest" 400 point Combat Patrol you can make. I have set it as a "riot control" style army.

You thoughts?

Doctrines:

Grenadiers
Rough Riders
Ratlings
Carapace Armour

Army List:

Elites

Ratlings: 5 Ratlings w/ Sniper Rifles.
                55

Troops

Grenadier Squad: Veteran Sergeant w/ Power Weapon, Bolt Pistol, Frag & krak Grenades. 6 Storm Troopers w/ 2 Plasma Guns, 4 Hellguns, Frag & Krak Grenades. Chimera w/ Turret Multi Laser, Hull Heavy Flamer, Extra Armour & Smoke Launchers.
                195

Fast Attack

Rough Rider Squadron 1:    5 Rough Riders w/ Laspistols, Hunting Lances & Carapace Armour.
                75

Rough Rider Squadron 1:    5 Rough Riders w/ Laspistols, Hunting Lances & Carapace Armour.
                75

                400

Well, the plan would be to use the Ratlings to take out the odd Wraithlord/Lord/Whatever that I MIGHT suffer with. The Grenadiers are my main troops, designed to get an objective and hold it. If I need to, I can give the Chimera heavy Flamers to sort out the more Horde-y armies. This a good idea (HF in place of either ML of HB - or both!)? Rough-Riders are my anti-Marine units. The Carp. armour makes them more survivable too.

My Ratlings stand an outside chance of pinning something too.

I know Ratlings and Grenadiers usually aren't too great, but this list has been made on the oppinion of many people over quite some time. The consensus was that they would work in this circumstance.

You thoughts?

There won't be any wraithlords or high toughness creatures in Combat Patrol for your ratlings to shoot at, all of those units are illegal (too many wounds usually). I am intrigued by the rough riders, but they will be shot to pieces by any ranged group before they get to charge, they would only be helpful if you get assaulted so you can keep them hidden. This means you basically have a grenadier squad with a Chimera that needs to get in close to be effective because of the heavy flamer, so altogether you have made a counter-charging IG unit with generally unusable ratling snipers. This list won't do much in combat patrol.

A better IG setup for getting charged would be a couple of Chimera's with HHB's Turrent HB or multi lasers and a heavy stubber on each. Much better ranged firepower and some mobility to stay away from the charging units.

I'm not familiar enough with CP, so it's hard to say what units are very effective. I will say, though, for the same points you could get a 10 man sad w/ PG&LC in a Chimera w/ HHB/ML/PHS. The LC provides the punch while the Chimera provides the AP...

I never did like Carapace armor...I'd rather have a vet SGT.
