Hello all, I have had a strong desire to do a great coat style guard army for a long time and did so with limited success using the Bretonian peasant archers and Men-at-arms as the basis for my Verdun 297th and doughboy style helmets with gas masks. My problem is my own in that they are not uniform, which bothers me but it suits the ragtag and poorly supplied background I came up for them.



Anyways, Maxmini just released their great coat legs after much anticipation, and I must say they look very nice. This brings my quandary here as I have two ideas based off of the same legs with curiasse armored torsos.



Idea one would be the simplest to do by using Pickelhaube heads with gas masks from West Wind Productions.

The other idea involves using the Space Wolves bare beardy heads and sculpting shakos onto them lending themselves to an Imperial Russian feel not entirely unlike the Vostroyans.

The problem is that I like both ideas and each has their own appeals. The German one would be a fairly mechanized force with an obscene number of heavy weapons. And it would look great opposing my British themed army and the clean design lines would be a joy to model. They would tend towards a grey pallet with a bit of green giving hints of corruption by Nurgle.

The Russian one has the opportunity to be more resplendent in the details and would be a more strongly infantry based army with a bit of supporting artillery and a heavy contingent of rough riders. They would have a primarily red theme with a bit of white and metallic gold for most any of the exposed metal.

Any suggestions for me in directing my next army?

Do them as veterans and have a mixture? Some vets prefer wearing helmets and some don't?
