Hey guys I got a bunch of MK3 Iron armor from forgeworld and Im going to paint them as sternguard for my Ultras. Ive also got a Tyranic war veteran which Ive already painted (mostly). Im just wondering which shoulder trimming you prefer? The blue armor colour I use is quite dark so the solid white on the forgeworld model looks quite stark (if thats the correct word).

Anyways heres the pics:

The transfers didnt turn out as I would have liked on the mk3 armor. The shoulder guard has a different curve to it compared with regular tacticals which im used to.

Also any other comments on the mk3 because this will decide how I do the whole squad.

The one on top fits well into the older painting styles as seen throughout the earlier editions of 40K which may suit your want for them to be veterans. I personally like the bottom one better.

Maybe do te lower part of the pad white and the top connecting peice bronze/deep gold? The second one is good and the UM symbol looks very good. But te mk iii pad just looks to flat IMO

The 2nd one looks better, possibly because it's not as intense as the first.

You could try painting the pad Codex Grey, warsh it with Badab Black, layer with Astronomicon grey and highlight white.

It would give the pad a little more definition and still have a bright, white finish...

the second one looks more finished....

the first one isn't finished yet, and under that consideration, i abstain from deciding.

I like the idea of painting the top of the pad gold. Theres no gold on the model yet which is just silly for an Ultramatine.

Changed the top of the shoulder trim to gold. What do you think?

I think Ill stick with this color.
