This weekend I am attended an 1850 tournament , 3 rounds.

Pre Tournament Write Up

Spoiler:

Welp Another tournament to get ready for this summer's GT's. I think Ive finally finalized my List for Alamo, but for this weekends tournament I will be bringing something special.
WALKER SPAM

Over the past couple months Ive bought 9 warwalkers, and at this point they are 90% painted. Walker Spam isnt a serious Eldar List because its cheesey and an All in 1 Strategy. That being said, One Cannot be a true Eldar General without running all 5 of the Major Eldar Lists, one of which is Walker Spam. So without further ado, here is the list I will be bringing this weekend.

CraftWorld Avior Scoutforce Alpha
Scoutforce Alpha is a Battalion sized Element for the first contact of an Eldar Strikeforce. The Scouting Force emphasizes shock and awe tactics. It includes Webway travel with aspects, heavily mechanized units, walkers, and pathfinders. The aim of the Scoutforce is to disrupt and to penetrate with FirePower, Stealth, Speed, and Firepower. Craftworld Avior has a total of 50 Strike Forces. Each Strikeforce is a Regimental Size element, With Multiple Scout Battalions, Mechanized battalions, Guardian Battalions, Titan/Heavy support companies ect. So this is a small element of a strikeforce, of which there are many.

List

Eldrad

5 Fire Dragons
Wave Serpent, TL Cannon

5 Dire Avengers

Wave Serpent, TL ScatterLaser

3x Walkers, 6x eldar missile Launchers
3x Walkers, 6x scatter lasers
3x Walkers, 6x scatter lasers

Mission 1 : Dawn of War , 5 objectives as primary, killpoints as secondary, 5 tertiaries.
Mission 2: Spearhead , Table Quarters Primary, Objectives secondary , 5 tertiaries
Mission 3: Pitched, Modified Objectives, KillPoints secondary , 5 tertiaries

Overall there are NO KillPoint based missions. This is huge for me. Looking at the missions I dont seem to be at a disadvantage to any of them, I think walker spam can and will do well in all games. My Skimmers are very important in these games, and hopefully 6 skimmers will be able to contest.

Overall at the tournament Im honestly not going to play the mission first. Im going to try to Cripple my opponent with firepower if possible, and then hope that Im close to tabbling him to win the game. If that isnt possible Ill obviously just play the mission. With Walkers I loose alot of mobility, and I need to smack my opponents worst units pretty hard as soon as I can. My Army needs to go first.

If I dont go first, I will put all my walkers in cover. If my opponent has enough firepower to destroy more than 2 walkers, Im probably going to reserve hardcore and outflank, Try to LOS, or Try to Range their FirePower.

If I play a list that isnt optimized or that is Assault based, I think I have an Advantage.
If I play an Army that can easily destroy AV10, then I might have trouble.

If I play against Necrons with Immotekh my plan will be to sit back as Far as I can, and Just wait for him to come to me, because they have a lack of Longrange FirePower, Ill just Boost Skimmers Late Game.
If I play against GK with Dreds/Psycannon Spam I plan to Fortune Fire Dragon Serpents and Go hard for his Dreds. I also NEED to range his psycannons.
If I play against Longfangs I will Focus Fire longfang squads until they are dead with Scatter Laser Fire. If he wins roll I will reserve.
If I play against Mech Guard I will reserve and hope for the best.

If I play against anything else, I plan to make a firing base, and shoot like hell.

Cheers!

I just got back from the Tournament. I left my camera adapter at college so Ill get the first game up by the latest sunday night.

Overall the tournament had 16 players. It had a VERY wide range of armies. 1 Blood Angels, 1 Demons, 1 Dark Eldar, 1 Eldar, 4 Orcs, 1 Tyranid, 1 Vulcan Salamanders, a couple grey knights, a CSM, a couple Space Wolves, and 1 IG.

Game 1 I played Against Battle Waggon Orcs.
Game 2 I played against Mech Dark Eldar.
Game 3 I played against Gunline Space Wolves.

Overall I had a blast. I did well, and I wont spoil the ending but Its going to be a great battle report

Game ONE

Spoiler:

I waited for first round pairings, anticipating using a list that Ive thought about using for a very long time. I feel optimistic, confident, energized and honestly ready to go. Im the only Eldar player, and one of the younger players, so my personal goal today is to prove that Im once again an elite player.

I get paired against Josh(who was an unfamiliar face), and Ironically got the same table assignment as last month. I walk up to the table, introduce myself to Josh, and see that he is playing Orks. My heart Leaps.

Deployment : Dawn of War
Primary - 5 Objectives
Secondary - Kill Points
5 Tertiaries (Same Throughout tourney)
+5 for completing 5 turns.
+1 for having no more than 1 enemy unit within 12" of your table edge
+1 for having 2 scoring units claiming the same objective.
+1 if you have more units in area terrain
+1 if you have non-vehicle units in atleast 3 pieces of area terrain
+1 if you have 2 troop units at full strength

Eldar List : Read start of the topic.

Ork List : (josh didnt give me a list so this is from memory). The Main thing is that He had 2 HQ's with KFF's. 3 Battle Waggons. 3 Trucks
HQ with KFF
HQ with KFF

5 Lootas
5 Lootas

20 somethin choppas, nob with powerclaw , Battlewaggon
20 something choppas, nob with powerclaw, Battlewaggon
20 something burnas, Battlewaggon
12 Boys, Nob, Claw, Truck
12 Boys, Nob Claw, Truck
12 Boys, Nob Claw, Truck

Im honestly suprised to see 4 Ork Players at the tournament. I havent seen orks played in dallas in a very long time, and my list counters them HARD. My Army has 69 Str6 Shots, with 6 templates. All those shots Auto Kill Orks. I know that Mathmatically I have a very good chance of winning this game, and I feel that my list counters josh pretty hard. NONE THE LESS I know that Mechanized orks are a very dangerous list. I know that if he gets close, and ties up my walkers, I will loose. I also know that his lootas have a large chance of hurting my walkers badly. His army is very mobile, and I need to take away his mobility.

Our Board has a Large piece of terrain in the middle, with small terrain on the left and right and in the backfield. We Agree that Buildings and actual blocking of line of sight counts as terrain. The Large hill in the middle is NOT Area Terrain, as well as the hill on the far left, (although the buldings are area terrain). I was surprised Josh agreed to this, as it takes away about half the terrain on the board, but his vehicles can go across it as well as his infantry which makes him faster. (In my opinion that huge thing SHOULD NOT have been terrain, so im glad its not).

Josh win's the Roll to Go First. He first says he wants first turn. This is fine because I can late contest objectives. Josh then gives me the First Turn(Which is a huge mistake).

Eldar Dawn Deployment
I deploy Eldrad's serpent in the middle of the board at the 24" Mark in order to keep him back from my deployment zone)

Orcs Dawn of War Deployment
He Deploys a Truck of Burna's I beleive to my left.

Eldar Turn 1
My Goal here is simple. Ignore the middle, contest near left, capture far right and near right. The right objectives have NO cover, and I should be able to smack the Ork right flank while contesting left and ignoring middle. I also plan on using Fire Dragons to take out his battlewaggons early. Target priority is Vehicles > Lootas > Everything else.

Eldrad casts divination, and moves himself to be deployed wherever.

Fire Dragon Serpents Turbo Boost 24" to the middle to Melta things next turn.
3 Wave serpents move on the Right Flank to give walkers cover along with trees.
Walker formations come in and Run behind Serpents. EML Serpents far right. Scatter Serpents Left in an L Shape to give Cover. All 3 Walker Squads have cover.

Ork Turn 1
1 Loota squad comes in far right in cover.
1 Loota squad comes in middle by the wall that gives cover.
2 BattleWaggons come in middle left, with a KFF.
1 Battlewaggon comes in middle right with another KFF.
The Truck on my left moves 13" towards a wave serpent.
Both Trucks come in Right staggered of a battle waggon.

He is within 2" of my wave serpent, and does a gangplank attack with his nob. He Doesnt role 6's and my wave serpent is fine.

Eldar Turn 2

Its Time for Shock and Awe. I need to blow him away this turn. He can move 13", get out, Wagh. This gives him a possible 21" Assault Range, and with Claws and str4 he can eat my army. I also need to kill 2 Lootas from each squad, at Ld7 they should break.

Eldrad casts fortune and guide on EML walkers.
Eldrad casts fortune on a scatter laser walker unit.

Fire Dragons move up to Melta Battlewaggons, im able to get within melta range of all Battle Waggons, but I try to stay on the edge of 6" too avoid explosions.

5 Fire Dragons open up on the far left battle waggon. I get 3 hits, 2 pens and a glance. He KFF's a couple of them, and I end up taking a weapon off.
5 Fire Dragons open up on the middle Battle Waggon. I am able to Blow it up.
5 Fire Dragons open up on the far left battle waggon. I am able to blow it up.

Close Wave Serpents shoot at Truck's, and are able to Blow 1 of them up.
Scatter Laser Wave Serpents Spam into the other 2 trucks, and blow the other 2 trucks up.
Far Wave Serpents shoot into the Lootas. I kill 4 from middle squad, 2 from the right Squad, so LEaderships for each of them.
At this point I shoot my Missile Launchers at the Last Battle Waggon's side armor. I score 1 hit and 5 misses. Luckly they are guided, so I get a total of 5 hits. Im able to get some shots through, and I destroy the Last battle Waggon!

Ive killed all 6 Ork Vehicles. Ive taken out his mobilty, and now hes in the open. He wont be able to threaten my walkers for atleast 2 turns, Unless I do something stupid Ive won the game and its all clean up.
He Had 4+ Cover Saves on all vehicles, which made taking out his battle waggons VERY hard. Luckily I had some luck, and he had some not luck.

Ork's Turn 2
Both Loota Squads pass leadership at Leadership 7.
My Opponent Shift's around to get assaults off on my Wave Serpent's and Fire Dragons.

His middle lootas have no line of sight.
His Right Lootas shoot into my missile walkers, and through cover saves and orks BS he does nothing.

He Shoots and Assaults, and is able to whipe all 3 Fire Dragon Squads (Kind of expected when its 15v90 something).
He Rolls very poorly on the Wave Serpents, and roll's virtually no 6's. He Shakes the far right and far left serpent so they cant shoot, and the middle one is unscathed.

Eldar Turn 3

I cant believe all 3 of my wave serpents survived, thats hilarious.

Eldrad casts his guide, guide, fortune.
Far right wave serpent Turbos right to contest middle later game.
Far Left serpent Turbos Towards my table Edge to get away from 90 angry Ork's.
Middle Serpent moves towards his table edge to kill Loota's. If he moves backwards to assault my wave serpent im gaining valuable space, so I dont really care its worth a kill point if he Nabs it.

Scatter Lasers open up on the Far Left Squad Whiping it out.
Wave Serpent shoots at the 1 Loota, it dies.
Wave Serpent shoots at the Right Lootas killing 1. They Break and run off the board.
Rest of My Army and TL EML's Shoot at the right Squads. I bring the front squad down to 3 including an HQ and Nob, and the back one down to just a nob.
Overall I killed around 40 Orks, my opponent is not pleased (and I dont blame him this is compleatly stupid).

\

Orks 3

He moves 2 squads back to assault my far back wave serpent (lol).
He moves everything on the right up.
He moves 1 squad into the building in the middle.

He Assaults my wave serpent with a gakload of attacks and does alot of so I can move. Besides that nothing happens.

Eldar 4

Guide, Guide, Fortune.
My Entire line moves forward to get into range.
Back Wave Serpent Turbo's far left.
Wave Serpents finish off the guys on the right.
I shoot at the back squads and kill 20-30 more Orks.

Orks 4

My Opponent is not pleased at this point is is frusterated (Although I completely understand). He wants to finish the game, so I say sure.

He moves stuff around. He assaults my Wave serpent that Turbo'd with His HQ. He Is Able to Immobolize it and destroy's it with the Power claw.

Eldar 5

Guide Guide Fortune
I move my line Forward.

1 Wave Serpent goes towards Top Right, captures it.
1 Wave Serpent goes towards bottom right, capture it.
1 Wave Serpent Turbo's far Left to the bottom left. Captures it.
Wave Serpent goes towards top left, contests.
Wave Serpent goes towards middle, contests.

I shoot the middle squad, kill 5 and cause a morale, they pass.
I shoot the far left, and Whipe the Burna squad and bring the other squad down to 2.

Orks 5

He Assaults 2 Wave Serpents, does nothing.

Game Ends.

I win Primary with 3 Objectives to his 0.
I win Kill Points. He has 4 , I have over 10.

I get a massacre and get 26/30 points.

Game 1 recap

My Opponent had a strong list. I out deployed him and out played him. He gave me first turn. This Allowed His Tanks to move 1 time before I hit him. If He had taken first turn He would have been able to move 2 times before I Smacked his mobility. I have NO Idea why my opponent gave me first turn, and it honestly cost him the game. I was able to hit him in his backfield HARD. He should have taken first turn, and mabe he would have gotten close enough to do something. That was the huge mistake, that was the nail in the coffin. Once his mobility was gone there was nothing he could do. He couldnt threaten my firepower, and he was loosing 40 orks a turn.

Josh was a great guy, and I had alot of fun, but my list just countered him REALLY hard.

Overall I was pleastly shocked with how hard the list Smacked. Im excited, and I havent had that much fun playing Eldar in a while. That being said, I know that Orks are my dream matchup, and that spacewolves/IG/GK will be ALOT harder.

I move on to Turn 2 Tied for first place with around 4 others who recieved similiar points. At this point a Space Wolves Player, Dark Eldar Player, Ork Player, Nid Player are all high scoring.

Game TWO

Spoiler:

I get back from McDonalds for game 2. Im moderatly worried that im going to get the genestealer spam player or the space wolves player. I get back, and I rejoice as I get Dark Eldar for Game 2.

My List: Refer to the top of the thread.

Joels Dark Eldar List
Lady Malys
I
ncubi(4), Klaveix with Murderous Assault.
Venom, Splinter cannon, Nigh Shield.
Trueborn, 4x Blasters
Venom, Splinter cannon, night shields
Trueborn, 4x Blasters
Splinter Cannon, Night Shield

Warrior Squad, Blaster
Venom, Splinter Cannon, night Shield
Warrior Squad, Blaster
Splinter Cannon, Night Shield

Witches, 10, 2x hydra gauntlets, Hekatrix, Power Weapon
Raider, flinkerfields, Nightshield
Witches, 10, 2x hydra gauntlets, Hekatrix, Power Weapon
Raider, flinkerfields, Nightshield

Ravager, Flikerfield, nightshield
Ravager, Flikerfield, nightshield
Razorwing Jetfighter, 3x shatterfield missile, Flikerfield, Night Shield.

Primary: Table Quarters
Secondary: Objectives
Deployment: Spearhead

PreGame: My Opponent has a weird but decent Dark Eldar List. 9 Tanks is ok. He has a decent amount of blasters, lances, and anti infantry. He's spamming nightshields which I think is a waste of points. The only thing I need to watch out for is I need to be within 3" for melta range for my fire dragons, so I need to get them closer then normal.

Dark Eldar Wins the Roll. He chooses to go first. He starts deploying with a smirk because he thinks hes going to alpha strike me. (Let Me Make this perfectly Clear, Craftworld Avior DOES NOT GET ALPHA STRIKED) That is one of my Pet Peeves. I HATE when people shoot at me first. I hate it more than anything. If someone has more than 5 str8 longrange Weapons I dont deploy, because its stupid and I wont give them the satisfaction of picking my army off.

Dark Eldar Deployment

He Deploys in some Dark Eldar fomation ready to get shots.

Eldar Deployment

I Full Reserve. My Opponent has 10 Blasters and 10 Dark Lances. He can easily disable 2-3 Wave Serpents, or 5+ Walkers in a turn. I would rather come in off the board edge. Hopefully he deploys poorly which will give me an advantage. I Hope to come in turn 2 with enough firepower to kill 2-3 tanks and to take out some dark lances. I have no need to waste my war walkers, and I would rather they come in and get a gurenteed kill, then die first turn.

Dark Eldar Turn 1

His tanks fly around doing random airial acrobatics.

Eldar Turn 1

lolfullreserve

Dark Eldar Turn 2

He Turbo Boosts his razorwing Far Right.
He Puts Trueborn Far Right behind a Hill in a venom.
A Warrior unit in a Venom goes Far Left.
Both Ravagers go far left.
3 Venoms go behind the middle Hill. 1 Keeps the warrior squad inside.
2 Raiders are in a congo line in the middle.
My Opponent Gets his Trueborn out, and puts them on the hill.
My Opponent gets his Incubi out and puts them on the hill.
He Gets both Whyches squads out and puts them in the open.

NONE OF MY UNITS ARE ON THE BOARD, THEY ARE JUST OUT OF MY CASE

Eldar Turn 2

Im moderatly shocked at how poorly my opponent has deployed. He has gotten 4 Squads out of their transports, so there all going to die and not do anything.
Hes spread out across the board.

I Roll my Reserves.
I get Eldrad's Serpent in.
I get a Fire Dragon Serpent.
I get 3 Squds of War Walkers.

Overall its not amazing but its a decent amount of firepower.

I Decide to come in on the far right. I will be able to pick off the Razorwing, the mobile Trueborn, 2 raiders, and all the infantry in the middle. By doing this I take the warrior squad on the far left out of the game, and the 2 Ravagers also wont have clear shots across the board.

Fire Dragon Serpent moves 12", Fire Dragons get out to Blast a Raider.
Eldrad's Serpent comes in and blocks off approach, 9 war walkers come in Behind that Serpent. I put my Walkers in L Formations. I have 2 in front, one in back. 2 in back, 1 in front. This L Formation gives 2 squads of War Walkers cover from themselves, and the EML gets cover from the serpent.

Fire Dragons blow up a raider.
Missiles Open up on the Razorwing, and it is destroyed.
Wave Serpents Destroy the Venom with Trueborn inside, Scatter Lasers from wave serpents then Whipe the squad.
Last scatter Lasers Blow up the last raider.

Overall good first turn. Ive taken out 4 dark lances, as well as 4 blasters. Ive also smacked 4 tanks. I just Alpha striked like 400-500 points, and its not likely that Dark Eldar will recover.

Dark Eldar 3

Incubi and Trueborn on the middle Hill move forward.
Witches move foward, and assault my fire dragons (surprise surprise).
Ravagers move up to get shots.
He moves the middle venoms to the left.

He shoots Blasters, and All Ravagers into my fire dragon wave serpent and destroy's it. He should of shot at my walkers, and had some really weird target priority.

In Assault Fire Dragons loose 3 but hold.

Eldar 3

I get 2 DAVU Serpents, and 1 FD serpent.

Eldrad Casts Fortune, Guide, Guide.

At this point im going to get the bottom right objective with 600 points of walkers, so comming in there really has no point.
My biggest target is the unit of 4 trueborn in the open, after they are dead he cant really touch me.

I turbo boost Fire Dragon serpent towards his ravagers.
I move a dire avenger serpent in far left to get shots on venom.
I move a serpent in middle to get shots on venoms.
I get out a squad of Dire Avengers to try and lure the witches away from my walkers when they break my dragons.

Serpents shoot at a venom on the left, and destroy it. Warriors fall out and pass pinning.
Scatter Lasers from serpents unguided smack the Trueborn squad and whipe it.
Scatter Lasers guided from walkers smack the Inubi squad, killing Lelith and bringing them down to 1.
EML's Smack Templates on the Witches with Guide, I bring the squad down to 2. They fail morale and run, and below half they run off the board by the end.

Pretty good turn of shooting. I took out 4 more blasters, and another like 300-400 points. At this point my opponents army is down to below half strength.

Witches Break my fire dragons and consolidate towards my walkers.

Dark Eldar Turn 4

His warriors on the left move into an empty venom.
His Ravagers move back to avoid my fire dragons.
His Witches move over the hill, and get ready to assault my walkers.
He shoots his entire left flank, 2 ravagers, and warriors into my fire dragon wave serpent and manages to stun it.

At this point my opponent starts doing some shady things. He gets mad when I roll cover saves on my wave serpent, claiming it didnt move flat out. I say that its clearly 24" away from the board edge and it didnt shoot, so in fact it did turbo boost. He starts rolling his venoms with 2 splinter cannons, although they only have one. He doesnt role the fallback on his witches at the start of this turn saying he doesnt have to, rulebook fixes that. He also claims that a Warrior squad gets cover from a wall, when they are on the wrong side. When he assaults my walkers I had them in an L formation. He confused where the squads were, and insists that he can assault 2 squads of walkers. I tell him how the squads are positioned, and he says that I switched the squads. We roll off and he gets to assault 2 squads of walkers. My point is, that towards the end of the game he does alot of weird stuff when none of it will change the outcome of the game, ive already won.

Eldar Turn 4

I get my last fire dragon serpent, it moves to get shots on venoms.
All of my War Walkers Assault into the Witches, His army is out of range of my walkers, my walkers have nothing to shoot at, it doesnt matter. By the end of the game I whipe the witch squad, and because they dont have haywire grenades they dont do anything).
Dire Avengers get into a Transport and turbo boost over towards the top right quarter, and the objective there claiming both.

Everything on the left flank shoots. I blow up a venom and whipe a warrior squad.

Dark Eldar Turn 5

He huddles in his corner with his 4 tanks.
He shoots at my Fire Dragon Serpent, Destroys it, Fire Dragons get out the back.
He shoots at my far left Serpent, It Blows up. Dire aveners go to ground and hold.
He doesnt try to capture any objectives, and doesnt move into any other table quarter.

Eldar Turn 5

Walkers Whipe Witches.
Dire Avengers move to objective on a hill towards the top left.
I shoot at venoms and do stuff.

Eldar Win the Game with 3 Quarters, and 2 Objectives, giving me a Massacre. I get 24 out of 28 ish possible points. I loose out on two tertiaries.
I move on to Round 3 to play against the only other undefeated player.

Game 2 Recap

Reserving was the right call. Overall my opponent had really weird positioning and target priority. He took away his own mobility by getting out of his tanks, and his spread out deployment and lack of anti tank didnt help either. When I came in and whiped 4 tanks and a squad, then whiped 3 more squads and a tank, he basically lost. He got lucky and destroyed 2 more of my tanks turn 2, but I still had 1200+ points of my army to around 400 of his. He could have moved to capture/contest objcetives but he didnt. After turn 3 he started moving into the corner to avoid my fire. After turn 3 the game was over, all I had to do was move around to capture what I needed.

Game THREE

Spoiler:

I got matched against Richie's Gunline Space Wolves. He won the last tournament here, and is a higher tier player. He knows his army well, and knows how to use it. This is going to be a tough match, and I need to get the roll to go first.

Richie's space wolves

RunePriest, Living Lightning, Jaws, Melta Bombs.

Dred, assault canon heavy flamer, wolf neck, drop pod
Dred, assault cannon, heavy flamer, wolf neck, drop pod

10 grey hunters, 2 melta guns, drop pod
5 grey hunters, melta, rhino
5 grey hunters, melta, rhino
5 grey hunters, melta, razorback with LasPlas
5 grey hunters, Melta, razorback with LasPlas

2x Landspeeders, 2 heavy bolters, 2 MM
2x Landspeeders 2 heavy bolters, 2 MM

4x Longfangs, 2 Missiles 2 Lascannons, Pack Leader
4x Longfangs, 2 missiles, 2 lascannons, Pack Leader
Vindicator, Siege Shield

Deploymentitched
Primary: Modified objectives (you can only capture objectives on the other side of the board, but can contest all).
Secondary: Kill Points

This is the kind of Match up ive been dreading with my Walker List. Any Army with volume str6 ranged shots can pick me apart pretty easily. I NEED first turn, and If I dont get it Im pretty sure im going to full reserve.

Our table is pretty open. In the middle there is a hill and building that blocks LOS pretty well. On my left there is a hill, on my right there is a crater and trees. On Richie's side there is a building, and on my far right there is another building.

The Mission is interesting. Its objectives, but you can only capture the ones across the table. This means Richie needs to contest the 3 on his side, while getting some on my side. I think I have an advantage with this mission, but each of us has good mobility and alot of crap on the board so we shall see.

We Roll off for deployment, and Richie wins the Roll to go first and takes it.

Space Wolves Deployment

Richie deploys his Longfang squads in the building in the middle with decent LOS over the battlefield. He then deploys a parking lot on the left of the building. The 2 dreds and the Large squad will come in Drop Pods.

Eldar Deployment

Richie has deployed Heavy left, so the only way I can really counter it is to come in right and give up my left flank, and make him move forces to my right and hopefully split him up.

Now I need to decide if I should full reserve, or just put my stuff on the board.
I look at Richie's shooting and this is what he has.
Lascannons: 6
Missiles: 4
Assault cannons: 2
Multi Meltas: 4
Meltas: 2( the 2 from the drop pod are the only ones that matter turn 1).

If I deploy on the table, I fear that I will loose the game turn 1. Im not as scared from his shooting, as I am scared of him boxing me in my deployment zone. He will drop 2 pods in my face, and I will be forced to deal with whats inside.
Also his shooting consists of enough shots to criple a couple wave serpents and a couple walker units. If he rolls well 1 assault cannon can eat an entire walker squad.
In the end I decide to reserve. I do this to preserve my shooting, to not get boxed in, and to ensure that I have enough units late game to make a difference.

Space Wolves Turn 1

Drop pods containing the dreds drop in flat on my face in the middle of my deployment zone.
Everything drives up 12".

Eldar Turn 1

lolfullreserve

Space Wolves turn 2

Things move up, but surprisingly he doesnt pop smoke on his vehicles.
Land speeders have cover from tanks.
He is advancing between the 2 hills on my left flank.
The Rune priests rhino is on the right, squad of 5 on the left of it, and then everything else ina 2x2 file.
The Last drop pod drops right down on an objective on my far left.

Eldar Turn 2

I roll reserves. I get a scatter walker unit, 3 DAVU Serpents with eldrad, 1 Fire Dragon Serpent.

After alot of moving stuff around, I decide to come in heavy right.
Walkers come in along the trees, and I hope to be in range of the longfangs. He put his longfangs around 8" in. My Walkers are 6" in. The Table is 48" Long. 48-14=34. Hopefully my Walkers are in range.
One Dire Avenger serpent comes in for shots on the formation of armor.
Eldrad comes in right by the trees to support walkers the entire game.
Last DAVU Serpent tubro's up the right board edge. I cant explain why I just felt like I needed to push upfield.
Fire Dragons come in to Melta a dred.

Target priority this turn matters alot. His Longfangs are a big threat. I thought about shooting at everything, and eventually I decided to ignore the squad on the far left. It needs to stay on the Objective to matter, so its not a real threat. I thought about smacking the speeders but they arnt much of a threat either. The Longfangs and the Dreds are the biggest threat.

I shoot fire dragons at the first dred, and I blow it up killing a fire dragon.
War Walkers shoot at the closest longfang unit(unguided). Through good rolls by me, and bad rolls by richie, the Longfang squad is whiped.
Wave Serpent fire shoots at the Wolf Priests Rhino, and I destroy it.
Wave serpent fire shoots at the left lead rhino and I take a weapon off.

Overall not a bad turn. I whiped a longfang squad which could be a huge liability. I also killed a rhino, and a dred. I now have 3 KP's for the secondary, and Ive slowed his advance.

Space Wolves 3

a squad of 5 moves up to Melta my Wave Serpent, they get out.
A Razorback doubles back to go around the hill.
Speeders move up.
Dred moves up in middle to whipe fire dragons.

He Targets my troop choices. Through VERY good rolling on his part, he is able to Blow up Eldrad's Serpent, and my far left serpent. 4 Dire avengers die in the explision to the left, and they fall back off the board edge.
Eldrad's squad looses 1, but they hold.
I believe my WarWalkers go untouched.

His Dred then charges my Fire Dragons. My opponent wanted to get into close combat, tie up my dragons, and then finish them off during my turn to avoid my fire dragons killing it the following turn. He did not shoot at the dragons to keep them at full strength.
Before I roll I gleefully say that these are well trained fire dragons, and that they will blow up the dred. I roll my 4 Melta Bomb Dice, and I ROLL 2 's . I then blow up the dred, loosing no fire dragons in return!

Overall pretty bad turn for me. I lost 2 Wave Serpents, and I had a troop run off the board. I have 1 troop left, but It cant move or it will die. Im down to 1 scoring unit.
The only good thing that happened was that my Fire Dragons killed his dred, now my other 2 fire dragon squads are free, as well as the one that has killed both dreds.

Eldar 3

I roll reserves and get both walker units, but no dragons.
Eldrad casts guide on the walker unit on the table, as well as fortune on it and himself. (he is out of the hood range by an inch).

Both Walkers come in the center to get shots on everything.

I forget to move my serpent on the far right (im not sure why, but it just sat there the entire turn >.&gt

My Far Right Walker unit shoots at the other long fang squad. I kill 2 missiles and the pack leader.
My Other Scatter Squad shoots at the troop squad of 5 in the open, whiping it.
My EML Walkers shoot at the Land Speeders. I kill 1 and Stun the other.
My Fire dragons that are left shoot at the rhino closest to my board edge, and blow it up. (I thought about close combating both Drop Pods, but they were giving me cover that I needed).

Space Wolves 4

The stunned land speeder turbo boosts towards my board edge.
His squad with the Rune Priest moves on the middle objective.

His shooting sees 1 EML Walker Destroyed, 1 EML walker with a weapon taken off. 1 Scatter Laser Walker is also destroyed at this point during a previos turn or this turn.
My Fire Dragons are also killed by something, I think they were assaulted.

Eldar Turn 4

Neither of my Fire Dragon Serpents come in.
Eldrad Guides various walker squads, but his RunePriest is now in range and stops alot of my powers with a 4+.
Walkers move to get shots.
Wave Serpent moves to top right objective.

EML Walkers shoot into the last land speeder, destroying it.
Wave Serpent top right shoots into Long Fangs that are left, whiping the last unit.
I shoot killing 2 marines in the open, I also shoot into the Rune Priests squad lowering it by atleast 4 models.

Space Wolves 5

Back Landspeeders are derping around moving in the backfield.
Vindicator is lobbing shots into my war walkers almost the entire game.
Rune Priests squad moves onto the middle close objective.
Las Plas razorback is moving clockwise around the hill, and sits on the middle far objective.

Richie controls the Far Left, and middle objective.
I control the top left.
He is winning by 1 objective.

Eldar 5

My Fire Dragons should have automatically come in, but I roll double 1's and for some reason my opponent and I both thought they stayed off the board.

Eldrad gets guide off on the squad of 3 War Walkers.
I take pop shots at Razorbacks to no avail.
I turbo boost a wave serpent to contest the top left objective.
I shoot ALOT of shots into the runepriests squad, and Im able to whipe every marine except for the runepriest. He is now not controling the middle objective.

At this point Im contesting left objective, Ive shot him off middle, and Im controlling top right. If the game ends here I win Primary, and Secondary.

We roll, and the game continues.

Space Wolves 6

Both Squads of 5 that are left, get out of their razorbacks and run to control the middle objective.
Space wolves on the far left assault my Wave Serpent and immobolize it.
Land Speeders turbo boost to contest top right objective.
There is no shooting by space wolves.

now my opponent controls the middle objective, and contests top right. He is winning 1-0 on primary, and loosing secondary.

Eldar 6

Both My Fire Dragon serpents come in automatically.

I turbo boost a fire dragon serpent to contest far left.
I turbo boost a fire dragon serpent to contest middle.
I get guide off on my full scatter walker unit.

At this point every objective is contested. All I need to do is shoot his 2 Landspeeders off the top right objective, and I win.

I shoot everything I have into the 2 Land Speeders.
3 EML's.
3 Scatter Lasers from 1 Walker unit.
1 Scatter Laser from the wave serpent.
I then shoot 6 Scatter Lasers Twin Linked into the Land Speeders. I cause something like 5 Penetrates and 7 Glances.

My Opponent rolls amazing for his cover saves.

I Blow up the first landspeeder.
I then Roll the Pen and Glance on the 2nd speeder, and stun it and take a weaon off.

We Do close combat on the left, and my immobolized wave serpent is destroyed, but it doesnt matter because I have another there contesting.

We Roll , and the game does not continue

I win Secondary, and get a total of 17 points.
My Opponent gets a total of 13 points.

Game 3 Recap

My Fire dragons should have come in turn 5 automatically, it slipped both our minds. That wouldnt of made a huge difference, but if would have made a small difference.
I mathmatically should have destroyed the 2 landspeeders at the end of the game, I caused over 10 Penetrates, I just rolled poorly and my opponent made 70% of his cover saves.

I was overall surprised that I was able to win the game. I thought my army would get shot apart.
I think my deployment was good.
I think my target pri ority was good.
I was able to take out the long fangs pretty easily, and I was also able to take out alot of marines, tanks, and other stuff.
I needed my fire dragons earlier to do something, but they still did their job late game so it didnt really matter.
Very Exciting and fun game.

Thinking about the game, I probably should have brought my other wave serpent in on the right as well, but I thought that shooting at his rhino's was moderatly important. I also should have moved my wave serpent turn 3, not sure why it slipped my mind and it almost cost me the game.

Besides that My biggest mistake, was turn 6. Looking back at the pictures, I think my opponent Left the middle objective open to contest the middle on my side of the Board. That being said, turn 6 I could have turbo boosted my wave serpent to the middle, and Won the game. Im not sure why I didnt think of this, Mabe his razorback was within 6". Looking at the pictures tho, I think moving my wave serpent towards the middle would have won the game.

I think Richie's biggest mistake was deployment. He had is vehicles grouped up on my left. I also think he wasted his drop pod squad as an objective grabber, as it was literally 250 points that didnt do anything. If He had brought that squad in on my right, he would have boxed me in and been able to assault me If I hadnt killed the squad. Overall I feel like I was able to doge a part of his army. That being said I didnt have anything on the board, and he did keep me from comming in on the left.

Overall this was one of my funner games in 40k. Richie is a great player, and knows the rules and his army well. We had 0 Rule disputes, and had alot of fun even tho we were on table 1. Id love to play him again.

Tournament Recap

After the points were tallied, I got 2nd place loosing to Richie by 1 point.
I didnt really care, as I still went 3-0 and got a 30$ cash prize.

The Tertiaries centered upon having units non vehicle units in Area of Terrain. I had a really hard time getting my foot's into AoT, While Richie's 5 troops and Longfangs easily were able to take area terrain. This cost me the tournament, but I understand why it did I just couldnt take those tertiaries.

Overall the tournament was alot of fun as Always, and Im happy with my performance.

War Walker Tactica Recap

I was very surprised with how the list did.

The Firepower of Walkers is Immense, and they won alot of games for me. May it be hordes of orcs and battle waggon, Dark Eldar Squads and Vehicles, Or Space Wolf troops, Every single game the Walkers brought down hundreds of points reliable. Atleast 50% of the time the walkers didnt have guide/fortune, yet they still blew stuff up. I was very surprised at how Un-Reliant the walkers were on Guide. Guide helped, but only by about 5 wounds or so. Guide was best used on the EML walkers, where guiding the template and Krak gave me like 3-4 more str8 hits, and around 20 more wounds with the template.

One thing that I also found odd was my walkers never died. During games 1 and 2, my walkers took no damage. During Games 3 my walkers took a little damage, but still stayed at well above 80% firing capacity. My opponents seemed much more occupied with my serpents than anything else. I was surprised with how little damage my walkers took.

I was very happy with the list, had alot of fun playing it. I might play it again in games to come, but I really enjoyed playing it.

Right now im one of the only Eldar players in Texas (to my knowlege). Im gaining critical experience with Eldar. I plan to take Eldar to Alamo GT/ Railhead Rumble/ WarGamesCon GT. Hopefully with the experience im gaining now ill be able to make an impact in those 3 tournaments, and hopefully win some games. Its also nice to go 3-0 as Eldar, Gives me more faith in my codex.

(If you have any feedback about tactics/writing/anything, please leave a comment. If you read the report please post a comment and Ill post a reply)
Thanks for reading!

Ill be honest, your plan to reserve against many of the huge matchups if you lose first... Id recommend an autauch for the plus 1. Otherwise gl! Your one of the few eldarplayers I like reading reps on haha...

yea I compleatly agree on the autarch, but I have no way of loosing points to get an autarch.
Thats one of the reasons I find walkerspam akward, because if you dont get first turn your kind of screwed.

Subbed.

No KPs makes this list look very appealing. I don't have any experience with walkerspam myself but I've heard nothing but good stuff about them.

I think this will do well barring some crazy dice tom-foolery. (Like failing several turns of all your reserve rolls)

It could turn out really well and as you already know who you play makes a big difference. You'll devastate armies who don't have enough firepower to take care of your walkers or against people who think its a great idea to try and pop open wave serpents instead.

I think it's a good list/build. Just watch out for outflanking genestealers/ymgarl tyranids, FNP DoA Blood Angels, psyfleman grey knights, dual CCB-necrons, SW long fang razor-spam and a few other builds that will have your number.

^Agree, this really makes me curious for the roster. These seem like popular armies at the moment. Though your strategies for these lists seem simple and strong. Good luck mate!

Awesome looking army btw! But couldn't you find a center piece in blue?

I like walkers, the bad thing is that almost everything except IG with lasguns can at least glance AV10. If an opponent has not faced walkers before, you may get on turn of all of them firing at targets, but after that, when an a smart player goes, I just lost how many guys to all that S6 spam, they will target the hell out of your walkers. Once the walkers are gone, asside from the FDs there is not a lot of high S stuff. A list with a landraider and termies, it is going to be hard to crack that except the FD. I have run Walker spam before, I just do not find it the most reliable. I do agree without KP you have an advantage. I agree that getting an autarch in there would be a good idea if forced to reserve, esp if an IG player has Master of the Fleet which adds 1 to your reserve rolls. IMO i would lose the SL on the boats and try to afford a cheap Autarch (with only 1 extra shot, 12" extra range and AP6 - on boats I do not think it is that much of an advantage - on a squadron of 3 walkers that you are trying to keep away from things and less manueverability and a squad of 3 gets 3 extra shots - yes it IS worth it - but for a WS with speed - I don't think so).

there was a Genestealer List at the tourney. There were a couple Space wolves lists, there was a Blood Angels. There was no GK dred spam (although lists did have 2-3). There was SW Long Fang spam, but not alot of Razor Spam.

Very good report, I get the idea of disembarking to avoid the s3 hit you are going to take when your transport explodes, but it seems that your opponent in game 2 just spread himself far too thin across the board.

One note, I do not think he needs to make his fallback move at the start of the movement phase, he just need to make his regroup/fallback in the movement phase. This can sometimes let you tank shock a unit to be 6" away so you can regroup (not that it mattered).

The Fallback move happens at the start of every turn, it didnt really matter it was just a culmination of stuff he tried to do when it didnt matter at all.

Maybe I am reading this wrong or I missed something, I was under the impression

"In each subsequent Movement phase, they will make further fall back moves instead of moving normally.."

I could be taking this out of context though. Sorry to nitpick, I really enjoy the battle reports you have posted and having written a few (not many at all!) appreciate how much time and effort it takes during the tournament to remember your camera and after to summarize each game.

I believe that was the older 4th edition rule. In 5th, you can fall back anytime during your movement phase.

Good battles so far. Looking forwards to the last one.

Your DE opponent doesn't appear to take losing gracefully. Either that or he's mad at himself for playing so carelessly.

Power to ya if you want to run that kind of list.

The only thing I would say, is that Banshees are Anti Infantry. The only problem is in order for Banshees to be useful you need a farseer with Doom, which would mean that Eldrad would need to go with them, taking away his use for the walkers. The other problem is that Banshees are anti infantry, and with the amount of shooting you have you dont need anti infantry, you NEED anti 12+ armor for dreds/land raiders, because fire dragons are literally the only thing in the list that can deal with heavy armor/toughness creaters.

I am glad that you had a good tournement. However, I believe the calibur of players, at least the first 2 I saw were very good at all. Everyone wants to be a good player and an elite one. Your battle reports come off a little snide and cocky. I can tell you that at local tourneys here and adepticon, those first 2 players would have been run off the board, I still do not think that 3 War Walkers would normally stand a good chance in a tourney. Once a smart player sees them and knows them, they will make them a priority and it they are pretty easy to bring down even with cover. I do like WW don't get me wrong and have run them in tourneys myself, however I have never run 3 squads in a tourney. With many shooty armies and tough armies out there they will eat through the WW in a heartbeat... Wolves, Grey Knights, IG, a smart Dark Eldar Player. But, I think your tactics are sound and your strategy with Eldar good, I am not knocking that, I think you are a good player. I just don't think in a super competetive tourney that a 3 Squad WW list would perform overall well.
As for Orks, at Adepticon, you would be surprised at the number of Ork players that get to the top 20 tables, BW spam tends to work pretty well. Thanks for the battle reports and the post, it was very entertaining to read.

If you read my pre-tournament again, I dont consider walker spam a serious Eldar list. I agree with your points and I think a good player can counter walker spam very easily Its an All in One strategy. If you read my GT and higher level tournament reports I dont run walkers, and run more generic mech eldar lists. I ran walker spam for this tournament to give insight for a certain type of eldar list.
As far as my first 2 opponents they had good lists, are they top players in a GT? no. Are they middle to top 40-30%. yes.
Am I a cocky player? Sure. I dont like loosing and I like winning, and I win alot.

Very good battlerep its easy to understand which is nice. This is a good list and you played it beautifully the first two games. You had an advantage on your opponents from the start but capitalized on it perfectly. And they obviously had not played against too many eldar opponents as they fell for some of the more simple eldar tricks. I was really surprised with how well the 2nd game alpha strike. The third game looked like the SW were going to have an advantage; i've played against something similar to that a lot. It was a really close game and you played it better than I would have. Good job and I'm glad you got 2nd! Hopefully you got good sportsmanship

Do you think you would have fared as well if your opponents had focused on your War Walkers instead of the Wave Serpents?

Against the Orks I dont think he could have targeted them.
Against the Dark Eldar player, If he had deployed more centrally, and not disembarked his troops I think he would of given me a run for my money.
Against Space Wolves I think he would have done better if he had targeted my War Walkers more, because they were the ones doing the damage. That being said, he did target them, he just rolled poorly and I made alot of cover saves.

Short Answer: No, If opponents disable my walkers the bulk of my firepower is gone. But in these games, my opponents didnt really have the ability to target them.
