Hey guys,,,,
New player here thinking of starting into Warmahordes, and like the look of Everblight. Can anyone give me a rough rundown of the different factions and their main abilities please... I found the PP website to be quite unhelpful, unless I am navigating it wrong.
Also what are the current balances of metal to plastic or resin minis for Warmahordes?? I personally hate metal as a material to work with, and would like to try and avoid it where possible, even if it means waiting for things to be released in a different medium.
Also also (;-)) are there currently any Hordes starter boxes out??
Thanks folks..

Welcome to the game, I hope you love it.
There are stickys here on dakka that can probably help you with faction identities.
The vast majority of models are still metal but, aside from some of the very first ones, they are easier to assemble than you are probably used to. The plastic is almost certainly different from what you are used to as well, don't use plastic cement. The hordes plastic battlegroups come out in May. There is very little resin right now, it seems to be reserved for very bulky parts.

Wait, why? Does it melt the plastic or something?

that's what plastic cement is suppose to do, slightly melt the plastic to get a good bond between the two pieces. Because PP use a different type of plastic in their kits the plastic cement will only get those wet. You'll have to use CA glue on all of PP's stuff.

I see. I meant melt it as in plastic glue on polystyrene melt. I didn't want to make an expensice mistake!

Are you refering to http://privateerpress.com/ or their forums http://privateerpressforums.com/ because the former is just a standard company site. The latter is full of exactly the information you're seeking.
Requests like Vichyssoise wrote:Can anyone give me a rough rundown of the different factions and their main abilities please...
get asked so often by people that can't be bothered to use the search function that they created stickies and a sub-forum specifically to deal with that sort of person.

Yes, IIRC PPs "plastic" is actually resin, I haven't gotten any personally but I think their resin is heavier than GW's and less prone to defect.

Actually, your last sentence comes across as rather dismissive and asinine. "people that can't be bothered" generally implies you find people lazy and ignorant, and no one likes being called either of those things.

It's not resin, it's PVC-esque plastic. GW uses polystyrene.

This.
PP DOES have resin(Bane Thralls shoulder pads, Bronzeback Titan, Behemoth, Battle Engines, and Colossals), but it's similar to FW's resin styles in both texture and color.

If I ever get a chance to ask any member of the PP staff anything, I think I will forgo spoilers and just ask them what the chemical makeup and production method of their plastic is just to end the debate and prove it isn't resin!

This is so funny, I was just debating the same thing as any metal videos I see seem daunting to use. Now that I know that most of their units are metal anyways, well no reason to wait. Can PP's brand of glue work on the metal parts?

I'm in the same boat as you, I hate metal as well. I chose Menoth and fortunately they have put out a ton of plastics so far so I have a pretty nice force. Must-have units like the choir are not out in plastic yet but I just proxy them with other minis I have from other games.

Hi OP!. Welcome to warmahordes!s (i'm pretty new to the game myself)
In regard to the plastics, i quite like them, they can be a little bendy at times, but i've found i pretty easy to work with. the models themselves (i'm pretty new to the game myself) I'm finding them a joy to paint. Kinda refreshing to have models without skulls and widgets everywhere. I now have about 20 points of models painted, it is reallly amazing once started how fast your force gets painted. That being one jack ( magneised so it is 4 jacks in reality),a unit of widow makers (snipers) and a pretty standard unit of infantry named the winterguard.
I totally advocate painting them, for a small investment of time you get units you will use in many many many lists. In a similar vein investigate which jacks from the starter box can be magnetised to save you both money and time.
Check out the stickies, i know you wanted an answer here , but keep in mind most of the guys here have given out advice many, many times, and that is why they are stickies. before you make purchases read up on the faction, although in regard to this game most and i do mean MOSt of a faction is viable. I have khador and i'd say about 90% of the units/jacks/solos are viable ingame, which is very different to other games!
enjoy!

PP mostly produces stuff in the States. They have to outsource for plastics. They do resin in-house now adays, though and a lot of hybrid stuff. But it should b enoted they moslty have infastructure for metal is a big part of why they are sticking to what is metal. Also, I might of missed anything, will update as needed. <_<

PP metals sold in Europe are manufactured in UK, but we get the same plastics than US. That is a problem sometimes, as at least initially the plastics came from China and they took their time to arrive to the old continent. I haven't gotten any resin from PP yet, but I think all of it comes from States.

As a small footnote here, and apologies if I missed it earlier, but most factions have character heavies now that use the Plastic Heavy kits and some white metal Add-on parts. This includes: Triumph, Gallant, Black Ivan, Torch, Blood of Martyrs, Scourge of Heresy, Malice, Erebus, Rocinante, Discordia, Hypnos, Rok, Tiberion, Ghetorix, and the weird squid faced Legion thing.

If you want to get Proteus get the metal ravagor kit, with the upgrade kit being metal, on a plastic warbeast it just over balances all the time.

My man-o-war demo corps weapons were the same, but a bit of hot water to soften the resin and I got them straight in no time though.
