Unhealthy Competition With Other Legions

Hello!
You may know me off CDO forums or Warhammer Empire, as Theforgefather, and Progreen10 for all of you Minecraft players.

This is my sloooooowly growing 40k Blog of Renegades and Heretics.

I use the Siege of Vraks part I as my codex, and have a small infantry army to go with my chaos space marines, made up of Death Guard, World Eaters, and Alpha legion. I am also planning on making a small force of Luna Wolves

Most of this was converted when I first used greestuff, and I went a bit mad with it,
so lots of stuff needs re-sculpting.

I am also starting a combined blog with CSMs and will be updating both. My plan for the CSMs is on P.3

P1 and P3 have the most stuff on, my best stuff on 3

This is the colour scheme I have come up with (not my picture, but my colours and editing)

Revised GS skills:

Here are a few of my better minis; I will slowly show them as I near finish them, or when I get new stuff

Imperial guard: Because quantity has a quality of it's own.

Sisters of Battle can be used in any game, with the exception of chess, Monopoly and of course, Warhammer 40,000.

After 8 editions, you might have thought that GW could get fantasy right.

I really like the colour scheme you are going for and the dirt and blood really lends itself to showing that they are traitors, are they nurgle alligned or undivided?

They are meant to be followers of Nurgle, but if you read the background info on the Renegade guard, many of them are unwilling converted to chaos when their commanding officers go evil. Most of the guard don't even know about the chaos gods.
Think of it as Anikan Skywalker and his clonetroopers.

Oh so your playing them As Vraksian renegades, not just using the rules and count as, it makes sense now

Any plans for the Ogryns or command squads/ vehicles etc.?

I have ordered a Chimera off eBay, which was meant to be posted today, and I'm 13 at the end of May (the 28th to be precise), and the FW renegade ogryns are amazing, (and overpriced ), so cash will be coming my way soon to get loads of new stuff.

Haha having money is always a bonus in this hobby

Out of interest are you using a basecoat or washes on your models?

Scorched brown, Calthan brown, then drybrush Gretchin green.
Whatever that is in new paints...
I then weather them with mud and blood, then watered down mix of calthan,
black, and a bit of scorched brown.
I might then redo some green, leaving dirty colours in the gaps.

I also do a rusty mix of yellow, brown and red for the armour
weathering

I haven't bought any new paints so i wouldn't know

How many points are you currently going for?

I see a chaos warrior helm on one of your models and from looking at your other blogs your green stuff skills are getting better. So, are you going to be doing much kit-bashing/ conversions with this army?

Boy am I going to kit bash it. As nice as FW models are, I can't always afford them. I was thinking of getting a FW renegade ogryn, then a pack of WFogres, and doing a squad of them. I would probably use the torso on one, the head on another, legs arms ETC, and gs the rest.

Well, I have a pile of grey, green, and bad paint jobs sitting to my right on a shelf. Every time I turn to the right, it reminds me that I need to paint them...
I am still waiting for the chimera though...

Impressive

What are the guys in the bottom left of the first picture?

Really like the chimera, looks very fitting, although i'd maybe give the red anoter coat to reallymake it 'pop', do you own any chaos vehicle upgrades as some spiky bits may be in order. That's only my opinion though

And also, I prefer the "stolen and recoloured vehicle scheme, rather than "possessed with a daemon", seeing as they are only naughty guardsmen, not CSMs. When I get CSMs though, I will do possessed vehicles. I used to have a vindicator, but an ok conversion to having a thunderfire cannon on it, then a crap pre heresy death guard conversion took it's toll on it, so it is no longer with us...:(

By bottom left i meant right, sometimes i forget to think

That aside the paperclip lightining is a cool idea and i like your take on the emperor (did you make that yourself?)

Is that a terminator i spie in the picture with the psykers?

Erm...
This is a long story.
A loon time ago my local GW was holding a Horus Heresy campaign, so I put together Mortarian, Death Guard primarch.
Only then did they realise that it was on the 16+ thursday gaming night...

It was only quickly made from random bits box bits, so that is why it looks, erm, odd

And my psykers!

I also redid the chimera bits

If it's any concelation, my thread is exactly the same

I like what you've done with the chimera, the rust effect in particular is really good.

One thing i will say is that the psyker (sp?) needs a bit of a touch up as some of the wood and skin is the same colour as the fatigues. Hope that helps

Could do with some OSL or a gradient of colour getting lighter on your psykers lightening effects, it'd really make them pop and give a good feel of the "power" coming out of them.

Other than that the models look great, very creative, a clear theme and well carried out throughout. Plus I'm always fond of renegade guard blogs popping up.

As a final note dont get disheartened if you dont get many comments, everyones blog is the same (in that people dont comment, not in content)

No harm in alot of Renegade blogs, personally I find the fact that the mainstay of the chaos forces (cultists, mercs, rogues, renegades, pirates etc) are beyond a more noticable army is a great thing. I've personally played against a good few chaos marine or daemon forces but always felt it was lacking something in that "loyalist" guard were better represented than the traitorous kind.

The Psykers are a great start though, look forward to seeing them finished.

All we need now is another Eye of Terror or similar game to coincide with the launch of 6th ed and you'll get a chance to test your Renegades in a decent event

Do you intend to add in any Chaos Marines to your force? Not sure which of the Vraks lists number 1 is though I think Alpha Legion?

If not you could always make a small marine force for apoalypse games?

Yeah, in SoV part 1 (Siege of Vraks), the CSMs are Alpha Legion Squad. 5-10. I actually plan on getting a death guard army, in the same colours, to use as allies, and I will include CSMs in my Renegades list.

I believe in one of the other siege of vraks lists there is a nurgle one, though I may well be wrong, I havent picked up anything Vrakswise other than the part 1 pdf

Personally i think you should make slaanesh marines, although i'm biased

In all seriousness though, the colour scheme on your mortarian contrasted really well the grittyness of your guardsmen so the Deathguard might work really well.
