Subject: Saga of Skallagrim, a Burn Wolves Blog (5/3: Codname: Thunder Comes soon.)
Hark, mine angels hath descended upon me and whispered their tales of gantry and lust! My mind, weak and addled from to much caffeine the living soul trapped in the body, succumbed to these thoughts and were subjected to hours of torture at the hands of a filthy half pound of plastics and acrylic! Oh, woe is me, to have befallen such a fate as this! Woe is me!
But wait. What light from yonder flashbulb breaks? Could it be the fruits of my labors? Lo, tis the beauty I hath slaved upon for more than a sun cycle upon this most auspicious of days!
Perchance, the misanthropes and deviants of the so cleverly named board (OnomonopiaOnomonopia) could give this poor muse some slight help on my quest to beautify my small miniatures?
Gander at the Dreadnaught of Contempt! Give feedback so that I, Soupskull, may yet gain the archaic knowledge to the powers of the professionals!
TL;DR!
Spoiler:
Hi. Here's a WIP Contemptor Dreadnaught for Space Wolves. C&C Welcome.
And yes, every post shall look like this. Not responses, because that's annoyingly silly.
These photos were taken with my phone, so escuse the crappy quality. The camera's out of batteries.
n0t_u wrote:I like the claws best. Is the base one of the new GW texture paints?
The base was made from the hunk of sprue the body of the Contemptor came on, some LGS, and 3/4 of white texture paint to get the snow.
LGS was used to fill in the gaps between the mound and the base, and the snow was liberally applied.

Those are just two small holes on either side, Luna. I wish they were ears, though,
BloodGenisis wrote: Agreed wash would help. Love the pose for it though, always wanted a contempator
Thanks!
Yeah, I only got around to washing the gun and parts of the leg.
killykavekommando wrote:The primer seems a bit thick and chunky, and some of the paint is messy. You did a great job at assembling the model, though.
Thanks, Killy!
The primer seems chunky because it's a little glossy. the light reflects of it well, obscuring detail and giving it a chunky look. It's a trick of the eye.
Also, the cameraphone doesn't help.
Vitruvian XVII wrote:Pretty cool soup! Its about time i actually saw one of your minis!
Like the claws, very nice effect.
I do think a sepia wash on the gold would work wonders though
You da man, Vit!
And agreed on the gold wash.
Hopefully, I'll be in the final stages of making this bad-boy tonight.

The language is getting ridiculous. So I'z stopped that.
Here's day 2 WIP's. I need to finish the OSL on the back reactor, and brighten ut the Plasma Cannon. And do some OSL on the vents at the front of the gun. I've also made a carnifex head to go into the DCCW hand of the Contemptor.
I also taught myself how to drybrush by accident. Yay me!
(TBH, this is my second painted model ever. I'm lucky it looks TTS! )
C&C are mandatory. And please no "You have to thin your paints", I know that. I'm going to do it from now on. But it requires effort, something I'm not really up to right now.
Vitruvian XVII wrote:The OSL looks surprisingly effective! And the washes make a real difference. Looking good chowdah!
If youre looking for a palette, why not try a wet palette? They can be easily made and make painting so much easier, stopping paints from drying out.
I have a wet palette. I spilled paintwater all over my manilla folder.
I have a small (See: big) collection of unused tile sitting at my house, which is what I usually use. I have small bits of water on there a lot.

Sorry, Luna!

Yay!!- Wait. I scared you? What the heck did I do?

But, it's starting to come together nicely now, even though no wolf ears. Trying OSL on second painted model? Turning that learning curve up.
Yeah, it's my second fully painted model. I've been fething around a lot, and have a few quarter to half painted models. I also have an airbrush which I usually use for OSL, but I figure I need to do everything b brush before I move on to my Badger.

You didn't use washes on your first post. It scared me for a second. Thin paint, use washes, keep layering with thin paint, use more washes, etc. Your second post with the washes looks good. I look forward to more! Keep your paints thin. The force be with you.
Bleh. Well, the lettering (Something I taught myself around 20 minutes ago) on the Skallagrim (The Dread) is taking longer than I thought. In the meantime, watching Miyazaki is a great way to spend time painting.
Sorry for the delay, folks!

It's done. All I can say is that I have you all for making me do this.
I have paint in my goddamn eye (Don't ask me how, FFS, blame Vallejo bottles) and I also think I'm going to taste acrylic for a while (Paint Cup mishaps are fuuun), but it's done.
Does anyone know what the best Matte Finish is, as well? I ask because I do not own foam for my miniatures. I should probably fix that soon.
Vitruvian XVII wrote:Hahahaha you got paint in your eye! And then you ate it! Wtf bro, wtf.
Well, Drank the paint. My cup I was using for paintwater and my cup I was drinking out of were both filled with green toxins (One was paint water, the other was a Lemon-Lime Soda).
The paint in my eye was from a ill placed dropper bottle and a handsmash for emphasis.
There's also paint on my cheek from... feth If I know where that's from.
