Pretty straightfoward, do you like the "wacky" way orks are sometimes portrayed in the game?

Try to keep discussion civil guys, if you don't like someone's opinion, don't start a flamewar over it.

They're one of the few forces in the game that still retain a lighthearted feel to them, and it seems to really divide people here on the forums. I know back in the day all the races had some funny parts to them, be it puns, pop culture references, etc. but orks seem to be the only ones who have kept some of that.

Yes, they're not always portrayed that way in some books, and they can be incredibly "grimdark" at times, but the majority of the time they're portrayed as a bunch of boyz just looking for a good fight and the most orky way to achieve that possible.

As for myself, I believe its an important feature to them. With all the grimdark going around, there needs to be something to help lighten the mood occasionally, and if it wasn't the orks I don't think anything else would be able to fill that niche. It's the thing that drew me to them, and what makes me love to play them whenever I can. Their entire method of thinking and war, is to essentially make it as insane and orky as possible. Where some armies may try to flank the enemy, or be thinking of how to sneak around another army, the orks may be debating the best way to stomp something. They aren't destroying planets because of some evil motive, they're just wanting a fight. Some of the stories in the codex really helped flesh this out, like the warboss who led a WAAAAAUUUGGHHHH straight into the eye of terror because he heard that's where the best fighting was, or ghazgkull letting Yarrick go, just so he would have a worthy opponent to fight again.

Yeah they're still brutish, vile creatures, but when I read some of their fluff I can't help but respect that about them. They fight because that's what they do. They seek out the toughest fights they can, and love every minute of it.

They are funny when you look at it from an ork prospective, horrorfying from anyone else.

Which is how I like it, they are funny when you look at it from the orks views (Dawn of War, the books) and evil from the other views (Space Marine had a very excellent view on them in their evil phase)

I like them being portrayed as both.

i think the Orks are wonderful in their current status and I can garauntee you that they would lose the majority of their appeal to most of their fans if you stripped away their comedic aspects for the sake of grimdarkifying everything.

I love the wackiness of Orks. I love their slapped together vehicles and mind stumping weaponry. I love their simple, gleeful outlook on war, regardless of who they're fighting. I love that they are interesting characters without the need of tragic backstory or massive kill counts. I love that they take even defeat in stride, because they can come back for annta go!

I wouldn't change a single thing about them.

So, I like the idea of mindless slavering brutality. I'd imagine it would be an army of the zombies from 28 days later, except green. I think it would be very possible to pull off a creepy ork army.

That said...

I love the Ork wackiness; it's part of what makes them unique. Random effect weapons, animosity, ramshackle looted vehicles. And once upon a time there were cyboars with a Big Red Button....

I have, on many occasions, considered collecting an Ork army *because* of the wackiness and fun random stuff.

The only reason I havent, is because I already have a tyranid swarm, and a green tide would be expensive and take up a lot of space :(

Maybe if I decide to trade my tyranids someday, it will be in favour of the Orks...

I like Orks funny in a weird way. They're culture is humorously stupid and everything they seem to do is in a lighthearted way. Yet at the same time, they're horrible. They're a species that exists to only wage war. Orks spend all of their time killing, beating and torturing. If you look at the Orks, they're funny. If you look at the family members and friends of their victims, they aren't.

The technology is awesome. The modelling is fun.

The Orks have been that way for so long that trying to retcon them now would cause pretty much every ork player ever to quit playing until they changed it back. Unlike the necrons, the Ork fanbase has been deeply entrenched into the setting since rogue trader. And the orks are plenty grimdark, does the fact that the joker makes light of murder make him any less scary? The orks may talk funny and have weird tech, but that doesn't stop the fact that they can be absolutely terrifying. And the 40k orks should never, ever, ever be noble. Not in a million years.

I do not do"silly "Orks and little wacky now and then tempered by the fact they are monsters and beasts of war is ok. Much of the goofy is just, to be blunt, stupid and to childish for my tastes.

On the tabletops, I prefer Orks to be more amusing/wacky. They're good comic relief for games.

However in (most) fluff I prefer the darker side GW has been showing them lately. Not endearingly comical and curious mayhem-makers but rather bloodthirsty savages that massacre worlds and destroy all in their path. 15 Hours especially completely changes the perspective of Orks that you get from the table. That being said, humorous Ork moments do have their place in fluff. The comic Blood and Thunder (mostly from an Ork perspective) being a good example.

After having my heart ripped out with what GW did with the Necrons, really I don't want them to make any serious attempts to change the core fluff behind races anymore.

I love the way their potrayed. As long as they believe they can still win they don't give a crap about anyone but themselves. Played Space Marine today. Titus takes up a TH and smashes his way through a Meganob (the really big ones). One of the ladz says "I.never liked that.Nob anyways." So vile but yet.so.optimistic.

That's also the reason I hate Black Orcs. They don't have fun. They clean their weapons and beat the crap out of whatever crosses their path.

It's worth noting that a lot of players are immediately put off by the silliness of the orks. I would literally never even consider playing an ork army. The notion of an entire battleforce acting like 12 year old boys is just irritating.

And some people refuse to even consider marines (chaos and loyalist) of any sort because they find them as a whole to be irritatingly boring, bland, and overexposed. Every army has it's haters.

I love the humorous aspect, when looing into armies I got told red paint makes ork vehicles go faster, there awere guns that could blow up my own units or the enemy in devistating ways, and then a character that coudl turn the mighties theros in the galaxy into a little piggy... i started orks immediatly they are jsut odd green guys looking for a good fight . I think they are a great addition to the 40k universe others fight for survival orks fight to fight
