Imperial Guard Landspeeder Pilot

So quite recently I picked up Heavy Gear having played the video games back in middle school in the late 90's after my store started stocking it, picking up a force both of the Northern Guard and Southern Republican Army.
For the Northern Guard I decided to go with a very sort of Tattooine-ey worn/weathered look, with a couple patches of Teal for regimental markings, and to paint theem I picked up the recent Heavy Gear Blitz Reaper Master Series paint set.
Primarily this consisted of a couple of coats of Terranova Tundra over black primer, most of the metal bits done in Durasheet Alloy and the armor scratches/scoring done with Skunkwerks Gunmetal applied with spare foam from a carrying case and then lightly gone over again with Durasheet Alloy for some gradient. Then I pretty much just drowned them in Gryphonne Sepia (or whatever they're calling it now) wash.
Here are the two Northern Guard models I have done so far (warning: my camera sucks and I'm bad at pictures :p)

glad to be the voice of temptation. It's fairly cheap to get into, $115 starter set gets you basically a viable (and useable) army of 9-10 gears and a couple of Drones, a rulebook, a rulebook update, dice and tape measure.
Hopefully I'll have another Gear or two done tonight!

I like the color scheme on these gears a lot. The battle damage is practically a necessity with Heavy Gear or you get a very Anime look to them. I have a few of the Hunters (?) laying around yearning for paint. I've never seen that Mammoth mini before. That things a beast. I look forward to following this thread, Vaktathi.

Thanks for the comments so far
And speaking of Hunters, I've got 2 Hunters to add to everything, these were a bit rushed, got a late stsart then some friends came over and shennanigans ensued making it difficult to concentrate XD
,
The Mammoth was rather fun to build and very easy to paint, I really like it, it's got a very unique look, though if you want beastly, check out the CEF HHT-90 tank, it's roughly the size of a Land Raider
Here's some more pics, hopefully I'll get better with them in time

Man, I have been a Heavy Gear fan for so long.
I remember when I got the first game back on the PC when I was in... what, middle school? I played it for DAYS!
It was the first game that introduced the sort of free-form mission structure. You could do the main game with the storylines and all, but then you could take on missions for either the North or South, and it assigns you random missions, and then allows you to join different units, that gradually unlock better equipment and harder missions.
Damn it was fun.
I've always had an eye on the miniatures. I just have no-one around to play the game against. It's a good game with a fun system, so maybe sometime I'll get into it.
For now I'll just live vicariously through this. Nice painting, and the weathering fits right in with any unit that's been fighting in the badlands.

More of a Southern Republic Army man, myself. I'm neutral across the smaller bipedal units, but favor the look of the Naga strider (as I've never played the game, I'm basing this completely on the looks) as opposed to your Mammoth (I think that's what it's called?).
But don't get me wrong- I love the look of your guys. Agreed with the rest- the battle-damage looks great.
Awesome stuff though, and good to see some of these minis coming up on Dakka. Looking forward to more!
-Remi
-EDIT- Southern Cross was season two of Robotech. Southern Republic Army is Heavy Gear... My mistake.

Yeah, the video games were super fun and had great b-rate cheesy cutscenes that were so widespread in mid-late 90's videogames. I think I was in 6th grade when the first game came out and 8th when HG2 was released, played both to death XD
As to Southern gears and Naga's, I'll be starting some work on them soon, I'm going to try and get one more Hunter done here (the command unit for the Fire Support squad there), then I'll be using a Naga as a test-bed for a Southern scheme, after which I'll try to crank out the Strike squad to complete my planned 1000 TV Northern Guard list and then set to work on my 1000 TV Southern Republican Army list.

So, haven't updated in a bit, here's why
I've been busy building a ton of stuff, here's everything so far
CNCS:
1 Mammoth
1 Kodiak
8 Jaguar
6 Hunter
3 Grizzly
2 Cheetah
2 Weasel
1 Sabertooth
3 Tiger
SRA:
1 Naga
1 King Cobra
8 Spitting Cobra
5 Black Mamba
2 Iguana
6 Jaeger
PRDF:
1 Red Bull
2 Crusader IV
1 Crusader V
4 Warrior IV
1 Chieftan IV
1 Warrior IV
2 Skirmisher
2 Gladiator
(1 Warrior Variant still to be built as either Warrior IV or Warrior as I've got Warrior arms and Warrior IV torso...)
I kinda went overboard there methinks....
I'd still like to add a couple of White Cats, another Tiger and Sabertooth, and I'm thinking maybe a couple of Ferrets, possibly another squad of Black Mambas, and maybe some ATM grizzlies and possibly a Cataphract.

Hooray update! finished revised 1000TV GU5 army.
Cheetah's and AGM jag for Strike Squad. Kinda had an issue with these guys where the wash didn't dry right and ended up looking all shiny and syrupy, had to redo some parts, not thrilled with the cheetah's but...oh well.
Finished 1000TV Army
Now I'm going to start working painting 1000TV of SRA
LIST if anyone cares XD

Wow, that's a whole lotta gears! Nice paint job; have you given any thought to using decals on some of the models? HG doesn't tend to have faction details on models like GW has been doing so I've found decals to be nice in bringing a bit of color to the flat surfaces.

Two more Cobras done, one a Spitting and one a Support. Still have 5 more (for some reason I liked the idea of a list, perhaps at something like 1500tv, with 8 cobras).
This makes my first Fire Support Squad complete for 1000tv games (Ld2 unupgraded Jaeger, 2 Brahmin ATK/ DEF 3 Field Armored Spitting Cobras and a similarly kitted Support Cobra)
