So me and my regular game buddy, have decided to write list for each others armies and swap armies for a battle, so I'm taking his Tau, he's taking my BA. Here is my first attempt at writing a list, any comments and criticisms are welcome, and can any one who has experience with Tau, check the legality of the list please. Thanks.

Is the list legal?

Yep, totally legal an looks good. My only major recommendation would be to swap the multi trackers on the broad sides for something else. One gun is always being wasted if you are shooting the others target. I like using the advanced stabilization system but have been considering swapping it out for either the targeting array or shields. In my recent games their shoots are either not hitting even with rerolls or they take 5 las cannons to the face and bypass any shield drones.
YMMV on the options but tau like this can be fun to play.

First of all, a lot of your XV8s are illegal. They're only allotted 3 hard points. Two Plasma Rifles and Missile Pod take those up. Unless you have a Team Leader (or higher) you can't take a Hardwired Multi-tracker. I don't have my 'dex on hand, but I'm almost positive Targetting Arrays don't have a Hardwired option, so your HQs and Bodyguards are illegal also. I'd also recommend Simply making your XV8 Shas'Vre a Team Leader to save points - they have access to the same War Gear and the stat different isn't that big. Same with the Shas'O - Make him a Shas'El to save points, and give him a HW Done Controller and a Shield Drone.

Also, three squads of foot-slogging Fire Warriors aren't going to be doing a whole lot, and they won't live that long. Also, Market Lights are a huuuuge point waste. The Fire Warriors will be moving every turn to try and capture points, but since Market Lights are Heavy, they won't be able to shoot them. Also, they're not Networked Marker Lights, so they're waaaay less effective.

Put some Kroot Hounds with your Kroot

Your Heavy Support is awesome....but not effective. I'd drop the multi-tracker and take the Advanced Stabilizers so they can move and shoot those delicious Rail Guns...I mean, how often are enemy troops going to be 24" away from your Broadsides?? I'd also drop one squad and take a Hammerhead instead. Yeah, they're not that killy, but they're intimidating. Also, the HH submunitions are useful.

Anywho, those are two cents worth. If I'm wrong about the War Gear, please correct me lol...I really wish I had my 'dex at work! Haha.

And if you're drinkin' well, you know that you're my friend and I say "I think I'll have myself a beer"

You'll probably want to add bonding knives to your 3-man suit squads, and replace the Multi-trackers with Target locks for the broadsides.
The Shas'o and crisis squads are all illegal, they have three weapons and a support system (Twin-Linked weapons count as two). Drop the Targeting Arrays on the bodyguard/commander squad. On the elite crisis teams, you'll need to lose a weapon system or the multi-tracker. I suggest having one squad with PR/MP and Multi-Tracker, and one with TLMP and Targeting Array or a Flamer/BSF to fill out the mandatory equipment. I'd also consider running 3 squads of 2 Broadsides, as they can then never be reduced below half strength unless they're wiped out. I'm not sure what models you have available, but the revised (and legal) list would be something like:

HQ
SHAS'O FUSION BLASTER, TL PLASMA RIFLE, HARDWIRED MULTITRACKER, BONDING KNIFE - 127
SHASV'RE FB, TLPR, HWMT - 82
SHASV'RE FB, TLPR, HWMT - 82

BROADSIDES x3 TL X2, DC, SHIELD DRONE, SHAS'VRE, BONDING KNIFE - 250

Total: 1921 points.

Assuming a 2000 point army, you have 79 points to spend... Somewhere. Maybe more FWs.

definitely drop the Markers for your Fire Warrior Teams. Pathfinders come equipped with them. Lay down 5 lights, hit 2-3 times. Use those lights to Railgun the snot out of the target. Auto Stabilization is phenomena for Broadsides.

Ha! NooB! Or troll? Just look at the Shas'O. TA doesn't get 'em BS6. 4 Hard Points used?

Try 6 FWs. 2 dead and it's a Morale Check. At 9 FWs, it takes 3 dead. 4 dead occurs when you start with 12 FWs. So, save points, like 36 or so, by trimming down to units of 6 each. Also, single MLs don't add up to much at all, and without the Target Lock, they get unwieldy. I'd trim those off.

MTs are the least desirable of the b-sides' choices. A.s.s. or TA is better as you're either banging tanks or pooping your drawers 'cause enemy infantry is getting close. So, SMS and RG don't necessarily work on the same things.

And WHAT'S WITH ALL THE SHOUTING?

Thanks for all the replies.

I've edited my list, well I've been a bit lazy because its early in the morning, and used the list that kaisshau edited for me, another point that has been raised, have I got the points right on my FW?

So next question would be what should I spend the extra points on, either for FW or maybe make my Pathfinders up to 8?

And sorry for all the shouting, I write the lists out on notepad, and I think it looks neater on there if its in capitals.

Thanks again for all your help?

This is a lot of blistering AP2/AP1 punishment, but the close range means getting caught in h2h in the next round. Be careful to utterly annihilate everything within 18". Just three muhreens can tarpit 'em which silences those PRs & FBs. 'Course if you're facing, StormRgunships, DE, BW orks ...

Demote the 'Vre to Team Leader, as 'Vre gains nothing with the Init & WS increase. It's only 5 points, but hey, 5 points can be spent on other things.. Yes, you'd need the 'Vre for the FailSafe toy, but it's a silly, fairly useless piece of Wargear.

Instead of two trios of Elite units, how about three pairs? Benefits:
1. You no longer need BKs to have a surviving suit rally. One suit is 50% of the original pair
2. Splits your fire, good for you
3. splits the enemy's fire, again, good for you
4. If makes the unit's foot print smaller, making JSJ easier, as well as it makes the enemy's efforts tougher to catch 'em in h2h

Negatives:
1 Kill Point increase.

Add a Dispod to the 'Fish for a Cover Save. Add 3 more PFs. 5 will give you 2.5 hits which is okay in increasing BS by 1 and denying one slice of Cover Save. Go whole hog and have 7 or 8 PFs. 4 ML hits are going to allow you to totally deny a Cover Save *and* increase a unit's BS.

You'll save 15 points by down grading 'Vre to Team Leaders. Get the 2nd Shield Drone.
Eldercaveman wrote:Total: 1921 points
You have enough points for the last few Pathfinders (you don't need metal PF models. Any FW will do). Get each b-side unit a 2nd SD.

I have an extra 31points what is there in this codex to spend that on? I was thinking changing the drones on the fish but haven't got the codex to hand to see how many points that is?

SMS, TA and MT are over 30 so, that's out.

Prolly, promoting the PthFinder leader to an 'Ui and then a BK. Or, two SDs for a Crisis Crew.

You could throw in a Krootox in one of the Kroot Squads. Sure, that squad can't infiltrate, but the Kroot Gun is a beast
