I just wanted to share a list that’s been working fine for me in competitive games. It's a high risk high reward kind of army that drops a withering amount of firepower (cc null deployment doesn't really work in 5th ed).

Hive Tyrant – Hive Commander, Wings, 2x Twin-linked Devourer

2 Zoanthropes with Spore
2 Zoanthropes with Spore
Doom of Malaysia with Spore

10 Devilgants with Spore
10 Devilgants with Spore
5 Genestealers plus Broodlord with Scything Talons
5 Genestealers plus Broodlord with Scything Talons

Dakkafex with Spore with Twin-linked Deathspitter
Dakkafex with Spore with Twin-linked Deathspitter
Dakkafex with Spore with Twin-linked Deathspitter

1999 points
19 kill points

Genestealers outflank, Flyrant comes in preferably from my own table edge to avoid mishaps. He can charge 18" or cover 30" with dakka. I feel the list has a good chance against most armies out there, unless the mission is pure kill points (which no tournament plays around here).

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Picked up #11 out of 76 players a couple of weeks ago at a tournament, only losses to Tyranids (yup) and Necrons, both games were I was forced to go first, which is the main weakness of the list.
The Necron match was mine to win but abysmal reserve rolls had me coming in piecemeal. Usually it's ok as I have good redundancy, but not this time. Against Nids it was much closer, but a slight mistake tipped it to a minor loss. Had a decent win against GK's (three spread out units with Warp Quake made it a bit tricky for me, we had to call it at turn 5 when he only had a Grand Master and a Stormraven left, I was looking good) and tabled two IG armies (one even had -1 to my reserve rolls). All in all I sit at three losses and around 10 wins with this list.
In spite of only having 4 small troop units I can usually pull those game off, as I can easily contest enemy objectives. The spores are also great to box in my opponent, he's welcome to tank shock them (S6 MC) and the Dakkafexes can be completely hidden behind, pic

(not my models but you can see the scales)

I put TL Deathspitters on the Dakka spores as with 18" range they aren't completely useless when I want some distance to my targets, and the extra dakka help me to achieve critical mass when I drop.

I really like it. I like it ALOT.

No Hive Guard, No Tervigons... Still apparently a pretty competitive way to run the Tyranid codex. I'd like to try something similar at some point.

If I put weapons on the spores I use cluster spines as the large blast nullifies the BS2 of the spore, but this can cause issues if opponent is too close.

Cluster Spines while nice against infantry, can only produce a single S5 hit against vehicles. The Deathspitter has 1.67 S5 hits for the same price, with zero chance of deviating and smack my Devilgants. I have so much anti-infantry in this list that I usually don't need more.

The list packs
4 S10 Lances
48 twinlinked S6 shots
48 BS2 S6 shots
9 twinlinked S5 shots
60 S4 shots
Doom
(most of my firepower gives -1 to morale checks)

Doom is a beast in many games, he drops, eat some souls, pops a transport with Cataclysm, survives a couple of S8 hits, eat some more souls and suddenly he wrecks vehicles in combat with S10. Grey Knights don't like him either.

I run my dakka fex with frag spines and adrenal glands, It has come in handy a few times. Drops, dakkas rhino charges unit in combat (devastators or various other cover campers) next turn at I4.

Did you know? Every sunday from 12 to 5 pm you can get a carvery for £6.95 at the pudding and pye.

I like it.

I get fed up of people saying Tyranid lists MUST have Hive guard or Tervigons or if its a deep strike list it HAS to have Trygons, its nice to see a good looking list without any of them.

The main problem you'll have is against armies that can out-manoeuvre you. Dark Eldar spend a large amount of time picking off units as they drop then whizzing off, but I suppose they would do this even if you walked on.

Shame you can’t get toxin sacs on those stealers though.

"Spare points?! By that I assume you mean more Genestealers..."

Actually I think a list like this is perhaps the only Nid list that has a reason to deploy against DE Venomspam at all, as it hits were I want to, when it drops. And I don't have to bother trying to get to rear armour.
I don't have to slug it across the table, losing 25% of my army per turn. Flat Out saves still assures it's a tough matchup, but not un-winnable. Even then, DE have almost disappeared in my region, since the advent of Grey Knights.

Toxin Sacs are nice, but they don't help against vehicles. Still, I would take them if I could afford them.

What about a highly moble blood angels force. something that spams razorbacks av 13 and both lord of cheese of lord of gay (the sangiour) the reason i ask this is that i play this at 2k and was wondering what you would do if i set up pretty much a old calvery last stand in the middle?

I haven't played much against BA, at least not with this list. I'm sure it would be a good match, assuming a good opponent.

Old cavalry last stand in the middle? Not sure what that is, but I do like when my opponent clumps up in the middle, makes it easier to get to rear armour.

What kind of AV 13 do they spam, Dakkapreds? Not impressed. And if they are in the center, chances are they will have exposed rears, or be forced to jam their movement with their own vehicles. That's the way it usually goes down when you move out a car park against this list.

Lord of cheese, I assume that's Mephisto. T6, no Eternal Warrior or invulnerable save, right? Meet Warp Lance/Doom/Paroxysm/Hypnotic Gaze, and 3D6 to get off psychic powers. He's nasty, but can be dealt with.
