Hey guys, looking to take my orks out for their first outing, here's where I am:
Big Mek w/ kustom force field
11 kommandos, nob, bosspole, big choppa (maybe klaw and give choppa to a below mob)
25 boys, nob, bosspole/powerclaw
25 boys, nob, bosspole/powerclaw
25 boys, nob, bosspole/powerclaw
19 grots, 1 runtherd
3 big gunz, 3 kannons 4 ammo grots 3 extra crew
The tourney has tons of wild objectives, mostly objective based, on some missions the objectives can be picked up by a unit (thus kommandos) my primary plan is to ram 75 KFF'd boys down the opponents throat and have the grots spread out to hold objectives or the kommandos nab them and run away.
On other missions the kommandos will outflank, unless there is LOS blocking terrain near the enemy deployment they could hide behind.

Drop the grots and add another squad of Big guns. 19 grots are not going to do anything for you that the boys can not do and they will do it better.
I am not sure about the Kommandos. I have not had any luck with them. Coukld add in snikrot. But he is still iffy really IMHO.

Thanks buddy, I was sort of thinking the same thing
My thought with the grots, is in an objective game, I dont want my boys sitting back and holding objectives, I want them krumping faces, so the grots were a cheap, easy way to get some bodies to hide in the back and hold objectives when the boys push past middle ground.
19 grots were just to keep the squad under 1 runterd

My issue with Kommandos is that there isn't a PK in the squad when you take Snikrot. A lot of people throw in Ghazkull to get around this, and create a real menacing threat from the table edges. Can also fit nicely with the upgraded Waaagh! in green tide lists. But I don't think you have the points for Ghaz in this particular list, so I don't know if Kommandos are the best choice.
I've had decent luck with Stormboyz as fast response units, or deepstriking them with Zagstruck. When you do that you want as large a squad of stormboyz as possible though.
I guess my overall opinion is in a varied objective based game a green tide oriented list is not ideal. Mobility is really important so I think a mechanized list would do a lot better, but that's just my opinion. Good luck!

Well the way I see it with orks you only need one objective. might as well make it there's. I don't worry about my home obective so I don't keep anything back. Its a waste of time for Orks as they want to get over to the other side of the board. try placing Objectives in the middle of the board and go get those with your boys squads. Orks should not waste points on a unit that sits, even grots. (well besides the Big guns and lootas of course)

I switched the list around a bit, going with 96 boyz on foot, 4 nobs, and 2 squads of kannons, will let you guys know how it goes!

Definitely agreed. I'm a big supporter of the "No unit that doesn't kill its point value or more" philosophy. I don't take grots if I'm out for the win.

Well, we think alike in many ways. I don't purchase units to sit around and absorb damage....they need to dish it out at the same time=)

For sure. Orks thrive on dealing damage in one way or the other. Whether it is CC, or in some strange cases shooting.

won tourney, I think grots/kommandos would have helped more than 25 more boys though, no one had an answer for anywhere near that number of boyz and alot of the time 1/4 of them were just hanging out, I also had no weak unit to taunt people to assault :(
Roughest battle was against 3 vendetta mech guard w/ table quarters, if the grot kannons's shooting wasn't on fire or he decided to blow them off the table I would have lost big.
First round was vs orks, battlewagon full of ardboys and a bunch of boys on foot, uneventful, I got off the waag and got the assault, the army evaporated, won all 4 missions
Second round was vs my buddy rich's necrons, was honestly not very close but we only got to 4th turn when things started turning bad for him and I barely won objectives and all the secondary objectives, won 3 of 4 missions
Third round was vs mech guard w/ 3 vendettas, the kannons pretty much carried this game, if my shooting wasn't on fire or he played smarter I would have been screwed, took 5 turns to reach his shifting lines and start krumping faces, won all objectives though only because single nobs didn't die from the big units and fell back to hold them, won 3 out of 4 missions
Fourth round was VS blood angels FNP jumpack spam, I managed to snipe out the sang priest on turn 3 of the huge close combat with 2 boys and then it went downhill for him. won 3 out of 4 missions (tied the one) at this point though I would have had to have been wiped out to lose 1st
was a good time, sounds like it was a blowout but round 3 was VERY close and there was a bunch of luck involved.

Hi, you seem to know your orks, I am playing against them with crimson fists. My force list is in the army list section. What works best against orks. I think he will field cans and koptas. Not too sure what is what though.
