I'm the hippesthippo. Started playing 40k around the time of cardboard dreadnaughts. Took a long hiatus starting around the time when 3rd ed. was so mucked up with Chapter Approved appendices that the rules were impossible to keep track of. Just recently started back up around 4 or 5 months ago.

I'm a long time Chaos player, it's the only army I've ever known. And that's totally cool with me. We like peanut butta and jelly. Got a DeathGuard [ish] army built up to around 2000 points and went to my first tournament about a month ago. Having said that, I'm not a noob, and consider myself a "competitive" gamer. [Use to run the M:tG circuit as well.] However, I AM still getting acquainted with 5th ed rules, and have only read through about half the codexes.

Some things I have noticed since starting back up again: Tau still suck hard. Grey Knights are pretty good, but the only people playing them are total scrubs. Space Marines are stil Space Marines. Wraiths and Barges are feckin tough buggers [I play against Necrons regularly]. Everything in the Space Wolf codex should cost 3-5pts more/model than it does. Dark Eldar can really get their move on. Oh, and vehicles are tough to kill, but not that shooty. Am I missing anything?

Anyways, I look forward to some good discussions, solid advice, and heated arguments. har har har.

Guess you haven't heard of the Whispers of the 6th. ed. of 40k eh? Well at least its cheaper (by a margen) to buy the new rules then the Mini's.

*** sighs...when is GW going to put my Fimir, pigmys, and Nippon, and Norsemen back in the cut? ***

@everyone: Thanks for the warm welcome!

@drunkorc: Yes, I've been reading up on all the forums for a while. Just didn't join right away. I have a buddy I play with weekly who is in the same boat as far as starting during 2ndish and taking a long hiatus [I've known him a realllllly long time.] He's moved at a bit faster of a pace as far as reacquainting himself with the rules and the community. [username: whigwam]. Anyways, the point is, he's kept me updated.

I'm not too worried about a new edition coming out. I'm not very attached to 5th ed. yet, and we'll all be on equal footing again once sixth comes out. As far as the price? Meh.. Digital copies will be available. As for the new Chaos codex, I've built up 2000 points by updating older models, getting some great deals on unopened "used" metal deathguard boxes at my FLGS, and buying the rest 20% off [cheers frontlinegaming.org]. I'm done buying things for now until the new dex comes out and will have saved accordingly.
