Hi I'm still new to the game and I've put together 500 points so far and here's what I've come up with.
I usually play my friend who plays space marines. I'm just wondering what you guys think and what the next step would be to 1000 pts.
CCS
Plasma Pistol
Medic
Grenade Launchers x2
Vox-Caster
.......105 points
Veteran Squad 1
Grenade Launchers x3
Vox-Caster
.......90 points
Veteran Squad 2
Grenade Launchers x3
.......85 points
Scout Sentinel
Lascannon
.......50 points
Leman Russ Battle Tank
Heavy Bolter Sponsors
.......170points
Anything that would help me out would be great
Thanks.

As a fairly new IG player i might not be the perfect person to give you some advice, but i'll try anyway: I have never understood the use of a medic, because most of the time; if your CCS is going to be shot at it will be shot with a lot of firepower or heavy CCW and probably dies anyway. Most importantly though, I think you would do best if you changed the Leman russ for a Vendetta; it's cheaper, boasts more (twin-linked) firepower AND can transport your veterans during objective based missions. you could even use the spare points for another scout sentinel. Hope this helped (a bit). Automatically Appended Next Post: I do love the Grenade launchers though, keep those in there!

- Honour guard of T'au- 1500 pts
- Death korps of Krieg 177th regiment- 1000 pts
Mighty Tzeentch created the Tau. It may not seem likely right now, but it will...
Oh yes, it will... |

You should take some guns that will actually do something to marines. Without having to explain anything more, here is a sample 1000 list for you keeping with your theme.
CCS, 4 melta, chimera, ml/hf
Vets, 3 plasma, ac, chimera, ml/hf
Vets, 3 plasma, ac, chimera, ml/hf
LRBT, las
LRBT, las
LRBT, las

Ah ok then, in terms of the lascannons, the reason I went with the heavy bolters was more for the amount of shots I would get, therefore targeting a lot of his squads? Would that be a bit of a waste for the tank?
Maybe getting some heavy weapon teams in there would be a better option. I'm still a little unsure as to what theme to go with when moving onto bigger point games.

I would probably like to have more AT or at least more reliable AT than a single lascannon even at 500 points. Perhaps toss some meltaguns in somewhere or give the tank multi-melta sponsons.

I prefer just a hull las. It lets the tank double as a light tank hunter, its cheaper, and you can fire everything while on the move. With bolter sponsons you need to sit still to fire everything and lets the enemy play around with the wounds.
In all honestly though, at 500 points, I always find it better to just spam heavy and special weapons. Most lists are always going to have a way to deal with a single vehicle quickly, even if its av14 front. For this reason I usually just spam heavy and special weapons in platoon or vet lists. Something like this, just as an example
CCS, standard, hf, 2 flamer
Vets, 3 plasma, las
Vets, 3 plasma, las
Vets, 3 plasma, las
