Better tell colonel Sanders I've found a more delicious chicken . The colors are just so nice and vivid and the blending is too good.

I'll disagree with Jah here - I think the Orange 'works' VERY well here, and we don't even have the 'whole picture' yet.

Thanks boyos, the aim was to make something semi-pretty and vivid so glad to know I'm on the right track .

@Alph he may be right, I actually spent quite a bit of time debating exactly what he said... There test of this ridiculously complex model will be everything together... Individually it's easy to make things work, is when you look at the whole thing's start getting tough... Ben Komets proved that to me watching him work on his version... Each wip part was absolutely inspiring, but the assembled whole was tough took read. It's the hardest model I've ever worked on for sure!

I think fading to through to white might fit in one aspect, but then be equally jarring in another.

Spoiler:

On your model, the colors are complimentary, yet different enough so that, to me, they represent the Realms of Chaos better than something like a 'blend to white'.

Of course, the proof will be in the finished model - and it is easy for me to say that if it doesn't 'work' then, you can just re-do it!

lol! WM you sneaky ninja you -

Behold the loose inspiration - the wild oscellated turkey... betcha didn't know a turkey could look like that eh?

So my main inspiration is the neck to the orange part of the wing. The white I am reserving for the cloth aspects. Then don't forget, I have to mix and balance all 3 different kinds of skin surface, quills, armor/metals etc into this party, so have to be careful. If I put white at the end of the wings is would be an even stronger contrast than the orange, and remember, I have to leave room for being able to draw focus to the face. It's juggling chainsaws on this bastard trust me!

@Alph: that pic shows red feathers...
i have no problem with red feathers
it's the weak orange/yellow that is bothering my eye...
it isn't a bold enough color, in my opinion...

@Tom: i do like that coppery color, but it is almost a shiny metal tone, which is awesome...
at the moment, your orange/yellow looks muddy, and weakens the composition and impact of the color...

of course, i don't know anything about color theory, so there is that...
i just go by what looks good to my eye...
now that you show the inspiration, i am interested to see if you can achieve that coppery look

cheers

Hello boys been a while -

So the LoC is a bit on hiatus for now, it is an extremely long, draining model to work on with what I wanted to do... plus I got bit by a bug that drew my attention to something else - A bug named Necromunda.

Went a bit insane as I tend to do, bought a buttload of Sector Mechanicus terrain which is completely seamed and sanded and some of which is assembled, but part of the plan is to heavily magnetize it so that will be a slower go.

Also picked up the excellent 'Deadbolt Derelict' MDF terrain from Death Ray Designs, which I plan to write up a full review for once I get some painted up. Really great replacement for Zone Mortalis walls, highly suggest you check it out!

So, one thing I decided this time was to really stick to Tabletop strictly in painting and doing everything. A big switch for me in terms of mindset, but it worked out well... instead of 3 days on one model it was 3 days on the entire goliath gang, to decent results.

Here are some pics of the Goliaths, inspired partially by Warboys from Mad Max, and partially by 80's cyberpunk/Thor Ragnarok aesthetic, with a bit of weathered bronze/tin bitz in the theme. -

Sector Mechanicus bases bashed out in one night -

And that Death Ray Designs MDF terrain I was talking about -

One of the things I love most about your goliaths is that most of the red stripes on the armor and weapons look as if they've been applied with a spray can. Diffuse on the edges and more solid color in the center. I hope that's a correct interpretation... in any case it looks just great and adds a very understated realistic touch to the models.

I'm envious of all that terrain. I have that company's DoW based space marine terrain and really like it. I should look at that tall tower/grain elevator set. Could really use that.

We have to wait a long time for you to remember us and post something Tom... but it's always well worth it!

Thanks brother, yes, the red face paint and armor markings were meant to look rough and hand applied via spray-paint and/or a big old brush dunked in red paint. Wanted a very 80's wrestling facepaint kinda vibe, tamped down into a more worn and gritty cyber-punk vibe. Somewhere between ultimate warrior/legion of doom, mad max and blade-runner is what I have going around in my head .

Terrain will come eventually, but magnetizing is going to take a long while, plus it is cold as ballz here so I am in no rush to spray prime in the garage at the moment! Eschers and other figs will be next on the docket, and eventually i will take better pics of everything. For this one, just felt like making an update

Not where I should be

Excellent work. I am glad someone else thinks gangs should be grimey. Not bright and cheerful. Great job on the face paint etc. Going to steal that if I may for when I go back and finish mine.

Terrain is looking good, mdf stuff has really boosted the terrain world. Makes all my shenanigans a bit of a waste of time.

Bright and shiny has it's time and place, but for me, Necromunda ain't it for me - MDF is strictly for underhive at this point, being Zone Mortalis proxies... full gang war 3d though is all sector mechanicus. MDF stuff is getting better and better for sure, but that Mechanicus stuff tho...

Thanks for looking!

The Horton's Donuts coffee mug in the photo. It's killing me.

Do you actually paint/ do the hobby stuff on a glass surface like that?

Yeah, NO.

MDF has many, many limitations.

Yeah, but there is a sizeable cutting Matt where I actually work. Have a full on hobby cave downstairs but I felt like working up near the family room this time... Don't worry, the glass is well protected!

Also hell yeah Timmies mug brother!

I have a sheet of toughened glass, (from a tv stand) that is my preferred painting surface. I mix my paint straight on it, get paint all over, then just clean down at end, very easy. Beats messing up your cutting mat.

I understand completely. I had a friend who spent a great deal of time, labor and money to make his dream workshop in his basement. 'Twas a thing of beauty. After about a week, he announced that he hated it. He missed being around his family while he went about the hobby. He more or less abandoned the workshop and went back to the cramped, 'temporary' area he had in the family room. The former 'man-cave' --odious term-- was to be a gaming room, last I heard.

The reflectivity/glare of the glass would bother me while working. I need really strong lighting these days :( On the plus side, Glass is easy to clean up.

Cam, careful with that tempered glass. When it breaks, it is a mess.

He, I hear ya. Though I definitely use my hobby room quite a bit actually. I guess because I am batching out 10 at a time to tabletop this time instead of myopically focused on one model it's a bit more assembly line, so don't mind the distractions of the tv and kids etc. When I want quiet, lighting and lots of tools, the hobby room is golden.

No Hulk... is that a unit I am unfamiliar with for Goliaths? Srry I still don't get the reference off-hand

Nice to see you too bud

Ok, been working on the Eschers... man, they are waaaaaaay more fiddly to paint than the Goliaths... so many details. I also had some fuzze primer issues and that is making it harder to see what is going on detail wise.

In any case, I probably shouldn't even update with these pics since they are not good shots at all (sorry), but it is motivating to update. Still a long way to go, all the little spikes, all the belt areas, all the non-steel metals, jewels, leather, grenades, tabard patterns... tons of touch up on plenty of areas... but here they are so far anyways -

Going for the traditional yellow tops as I always liked them, but trying to add a lot more purple to the scheme.

Fantastic start, the ladies are looking fine so far. As usual, you pro painter types give me something to think about. I am personally not keen on the whole "bright colours" underhive, practicality says more muted, or even urban camo. Then I see something as brilliant as your work and I really want to have a go. They look so perfect. I know they are WIP, but the promise is there.
