This https://store.corvusbelli.com/products/mercenaries/280015-0654-the-fat-yuan-yuan is very good news.

Contents list, for posterity. For €29.95 ( USD $31.81-- standard Dire Foes (1-5) pricing.

Box with:
2x Fat Yuan Yuan
2x Base 25mm
3x Pins (Fat Yuan Yuan, Lo Pan's & Pulpibeer)
1x Lo Pan's Menu

Perhaps this box will be an"available early at Adepticon but then available in general later" deal. Something similar to the way CB sold Icestorm, or Red Veil early at Gencon, and then released to everyone else later.

I have no idea what to make of the Lo Pan's menu entry. A reference to the Lo Pan's building from Red Veil, and...?

Wasn't Lo Pan the bad guy in Big Trouble in Little China?

Yep, but in the Infinity-verse it is also a chain of noodle shops

Due to the "buttons" available in the box I hope for the following:
2 x Fat Yuan Yuan bodies with a bandoleer of beers.
1 x Arms holding pistol and Sword
1 x Arms holding a noodle box and Chain Rifle/BS.

Covers the Pulipbeer and Lo Pan references and matches with the previous jokey Dossier and Profiles that were released (where smoke grenades were replaced with beer cans)

Glory is fleeting. Obscurity is forever.

Indeed! This is nice to hear, it'll make a lot of people happy, but it's not something I'm particularly interested in buying. Looking forward to seeing the miniatures though!

Sadly not, he can't sell limited editions that come free with other items, he'd get in a lot of trouble if he did. You'll have to buy the book or get it after market at a high mark up.

I'm not understanding the issue with the manga? Unless it's just the fact it's a manga and not just a novel?

One of the best ways to flesh out a game setting is through stories. When Games Workshop started doing novels, they took their popular setting and actually told some stories in it which turned out to be very popular. Wyrd do the same with the Malifaux setting by doing an ongoing narrative and lots of smaller short stories in their free e-zine.

As a setting, Infinity has as much potential as 40k to turn out some really interesting stories. I'm thrilled they're doing this rather than just more source books describing the setting.

I wholeheartedly agree, the manga is brilliant news for anyone who cares about lore. I guess some people are just interested in the playing of the game which is cool too.

I'm thinking it's more just the fact it's a manga. There's decent portion of the community who dislike the games manga roots and when the aesthetic bubbles back to the surface on some over the top models, so to have that shoved in their face with an actual Infinity manga probably stings a bit.

It's a sad thought but you might be right. I hope Corvus have the integrity to hold the setting strong over the years. I'm a fan of many diverse settings, not just in miniature wargames, and I like them to keep their identities strong and proudly displayed on their sleeves. Even for settings I dislike, I respect them for keeping their flavour, I'd hate for them to bend to fit my interests.

Beyond the Beltway

If this manga does well/sells well, there will undoubtedly be more. As a way to expand what is *canon* for the Infinity milieu, I think it is as acceptable as the "novels" other TTG companies publish.

Next Monday (or Tuesday), we learn about the Fat Yuan Yuan. It does seem likely that it, bundled with the Manga and Knauf, would make an Adepticon offer.

We are still awaiting news of this month's previews, or at least the remaining 2 or 3? It looks like we get the Fat Yuan Yuan (?), the Gecko pilot and the Gorgos pilot.

I'd like to see that Bagh-Mari HMG soon, the Acontecimento Regular hacker, and the Hassassin Ayyar.

Am I just missing something here?

I...don't get the allure of "Fat Yuan Yuan".

What's the big deal?

I wasn't part of the "WULVER GIRL NOW!" movement either though, so...?

I don't think you're missing anything, although if you are then so am I. I don't think there's really a reason for it, it's just a rally point for people, like an internet meme or an in-joke.

WGN, the Wulver Girl Now, was a movement from the forums to alter the fluff of Wulvers been only male, feeling it is a bit silly that a dogface could only birth males (in any configuration), it got good support from both the Spanish and the International forum and it happened.

Somewhat similar the demand for female knights happened, it has less vocal members but wider support (frankly assuming the catholic "only male priests" dogma will survive 175 years in the future under the unified church Infinity has is a big stretch).

Fat Yuan Yuan is the birth-child of the vast thread about the female body depiction and the joke demand for a wider body type depiction in Infinity, the suggestion was made for a fat warrior somehow it settled on Yuan Yuan, some sketches were made and it is an inside joke ever since.

Personally the appeal is great, beyond the obvious, inside joke made reality, it will be a different model, outside of the norm in an unusual body-type, it will be a nice variation and I am expecting players and painters to go to town with it.

I'm sure that while this will end up being great and all that, but much like when certain companies reward the, shall we say, "Ridiculously Prolific Commentators" during a Kickstarter Campaign, it can lead to really, really annoying things too.

I imagine.

Still - congrats to everyone who was waiting for and wanting one of these things!

Some things are organic interaction and I applaud CBs willingness to discuss the background with the Fans and consider their proposals and either accept them or hold their ground.

Fat Yuan Yuan is an entirely different thing it is again an organic thing from a drastically smaller community that was easier to interact with, its not something new its something that is almost as old as the Infinity itself.

IIRC, that was a fan-made dossier. The art of the Fat Yuan-Yuan has been around for awhile and they just put it over a dossier after copy/pasting weapon images in.

It was the April Fool's joke from last year.

Many people, including myself, have been tirelessly badgering CB about making one.

I find the entire concept and background hilarious, and just want a fat, beer drinking, chicken eating guy. His unit patch is 2 crossed chicken drumsticks.... how is that NOT funny?

I'm not butthurt about combat heels, exposed skin, cheesecake, or boobs..... I just like to raz those people from time to time. If a fat guy offsets some of the "image" people, then so be it.

Bring on the Fatties!

One the one hand, I like that CB is still 'responsive' and listening to their fans!

On the other hand, they're already an 'easily distracted company' and there's lots of other things I'd wish they'd finish before doing stuff like this!

While I don't disagree on some level, I love that we get surprise stuff like this tossed in during the journey.

"Journey" implies that we had a known starting point and a known ending point. We have no clue what the next turn holds, which is okay...but with a company that has shown time and time again that they cannot (and I really loathe to use this term) "be trusted" to finish what they start it becomes very easy to become cynical and jaded.

Look at the "Year of the Tohaa" or the "Year of USARF" and then compare it to the "Year of Yu Jing". YJ got a huge amount of stuff, new and old, while Tohaa got maybe a handful as did USARF. Cut forward to what, two years later for USARF and we've only just gotten the Marauders box a few months ago and April is supposedly the Minutemen box? And Blackjacks aren't even, at last report, concepted yet?! And they're moving on to Caledonia next--which is great, cause Caledonia could use some love, but for Pete's sake would it have hurt them to ensure that 1 of each unit type was out for a faction before moving on?

This is the kind of stuff that I get bothered by. They start something and they don't finish. To myself and a few others, it genuinely feels like they can't be bothered to finish what they've started. They move on to the next thing trusting their fans to shout down their detractors.
