Spire of Dawn has been restocked, seems like a good skirmish starter set.

With regards to this new skirmish expansion, do you also need the General's Handbook to play it, or will just the skirmish book and any warscrolls or the splatbook of your choice suffice?

Each warband can use the generic allegiance abilities in the GHB. But, these are additional bonuses that don't interact with any other rules so you could all choose to play without them. You have new Skirmish command traits and artefacts (and imo the GHB ones aren't intended to be used) so it's only the GHB battle trait (an army wide bonus) you will miss out on.

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

I'm not interested in the bonuses, but rather, do I NEED to buy the General's Handbook (because this one has the points and whatnot if I understand it correctly) to actually play Skirmish? Or does the skirmish book include everything I need to play this variant of the game using Kharadron Overlords?

Everything I'm seeing says that no, you do not need the GHB at all.

Road to Renown! It's like classic Path to Glory, but repaired, remastered, expanded! https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/778170.page

I chose an avatar I feel best represents the quality of my post history.

I try to view Warhammer as more of a toolbox with examples than fully complete games.

That's the preview I've been waiting to see!

Good see dwarves & woodies in there, as they were the two forces I've stocked up on, and thought they might not included rules for.

Great to see all flavours of grots are accounted for. Shame there is no snotlings or squigs, though I expected that being as they are metal. Max unit of 30 NGs! That is going to be some insane 'skirmish' sized forces!

Surprised to see the doomwheel in there. I'm probably making the exact opposite face right now, as my opponent will when I drop my entire skyre warband on the table, and its all Doomwheels!

I will probably run a squig or two as spider riders. My opponent is a full blown arachnophobe, and wouldn't allow them at all, so swapping them out for squigs not only suits her, but me as well, as I love squigs. Considering running a snotling pump wagon at some point- perhaps I could use the straight up rules for the doomwheel. Might be a little OP when compared to the rickety pump wagon, but no serious gaming going on here, and it would be fun to the wagon on the table again.

I've been thinking about adding in some house rules for later games, for the heroes to purchase pets. Something on the lines of one pet per warband, one use per game, one of three use- Tank pet (cancels out one roll or move) DPS pet (reroll an attack) Shield pet (reroll one save or remove pet instead of taking one wound), something on those lines. Simply as it would be a good way to add some character to games, and be able to add more 'bits' to a warband, like the blood bowl tokens/balls or 40k ammo runts.

Picked up the cauldron of blood. Pulling the kit apart for this as it a deal for parts. Using the DElves to convert up a Warcraft style blood elf force. The rest of it will go to terrain. That statue and the mirror especially. Medusa will become either something in a warband, or a 'boss character'. We'd like to have some boss encounters in between campaigns to keep things fun, plus its a good excuse to paint stuff I really want to paint, but dont want to commit to a whole army. Picked up the dark elves dragon for one, have a wight king I will make into a 'lich king' for another.

Okay news from War-of-Sigmar. While it's not an official source, I think it may be an interesting rumour:

https://war-of-sigmar.herokuapp.com/bloggings/2029

Bob:i think Fp are going to stay and prosper in one form or another. especially with the dev of pen & paper rpg in aos setting ^^
Tomas Höll: Along with the new Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay edition?
Bob: yes.
Another comment.
Bob: will see what they announce at Warhammer fest

Interesting to say the least.

No you don't need the GHB. Yes all the Kharadron unit points are in there

Don't see why points are blacked out. Wasn't it cost in GHB divided by 5?

Probably to avoid take down notices.

I'm from the future. The future of space

Given that all points seem to be GHB/5, does it matter if anything is missing? Will you (in the general sense of all y'all) refuse to play against something not in the book lists?

I'll play against whatever as long as it is painted.

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better.

They get a preview copy in exchange for promoting it. I assume that the points are the most valuable content in the book (similar to Matched Play in the General's Handbook) - on the one hand, they can't give those away, on the other hand the most pressing question of many folks is: is my favorite model supported in Skirmish.

This is the only practical way of reconciling these.

And as far as I'm aware, divided by 5 is only a general guideline given/assumed by people. I can tell you for a fact it's not true for a Ghoul King, which is very close to divided by 4 instead.

That's true! Obviously can't use the High Warden (leaked pics confirm, and he would just be too big anyway), but an Archmage leading Reavers, Swordmasters, and Spireguard could be pretty fun.

Also will be interested to see if Vanguard-Hunters still get all their rules. The compass letting them come in from various table edges seems like it might break the game. Palladors Ride the Winds Aetheric as well.

The rules leaked explained that you could only take one doomwheel. Only one warscroll per warband and that warscroll caps at 1. Unless you make up rules with your friend for fun play. They have a balance mechanic in place it appears.. how balances? well thats to be found out I suppose.

I assume the special weapons require you to actually take the number of models from the unit required to take the weapon? When it says 1 in 3 can take X, you have to take at least 3 I assume? I wish that was worded a little clearer.

Balance wise, the one red flag is leader models getting an extra attack or other bonus. I can see Stormcast armies composed of a lot of 1 man Warscrolls to abuse this. Renown is going to matter a lot though and I'll be curious to see how it shakes out.

I took from the passage in the book that if you only took the one guy you could equip him with anything., like the example with the Ork Brutes, take one and you could give him a gore-choppa, but if you took 4 more to fill out the unit they couldnt take any.

It's not very clear on that sadly. It states the "equip anything" with examples of free weapon variety and then goes into restrictions with the restricted weapon.

They couldn't think of anything to use the extra space rather than include a column for MIN unit size which is 1 for literally every unit in the game?

A jerk 'puts down' a legal unit of 0 models,

which you can't kill, and will mess with some objectives/missions etc

that's why they have a min unit size (lame as it is)

I saw a couple units with a min size of 10, but I thought it was a typo because it just seemed odd...

Yeah, the High Warden on Griffon is out, but everything else appears to be in and you should have more than enough for both armies based on what we know about point values.

Just a brief early info doing the rounds on german forums

It seems GW's classic Dwarf models will either be discontinued or repacked with different bases. Several kits have been removed from the webstore

Rumor says everything but the Gyrocopter/-bomber will be discontinued

Here is a photo - via Tabletopwelt.de - which was added to the rumor

Isnt that a yet-unreleased box? My Fantasy-fu is weak

Anyway, just sharing the information and hope people with more knowledge will chime in and can help out

Wouldn't be surprised if warriors and thunderers disappered, however removing the hammerers, irondrakes, and new plastis characters would be strange.

I am hoping all the 8th edition stuff remains as well as the cannon. There's a few I definitely want in my collection, like the Longbeards, Iron Breakers and Rune Lord!

Edit: After some thought the Cogsmith at least must be staying because you can find it inside the WHQII box.
