Funny.

Watchtower in an hour.
Have you thought of setting up your camera and doing YouTube videos or putting the camera on a setting to take a pic every three seconds or ten seconds or so and doing a stop motion type thing?
Would be cool.

I don't have a camera set up at all, all pics are from iPhone or iPad. My only computer is an ancient 15+ year old desktop that runs old games (Sid Meyers Alpha Centauri ). Plus I hate the sound of my voice, and trying to do a video clip or tutorial would slow me down and probably kill any enthusiasm I have.

But thanks for the vote of confidence.

Dakkadakka was being strange to me yesterday. After church it took me over 6 hours to get back on. No site maintenance screen or anything and it was showing Up when I check is it down or just me.

Anyway, I built a roof for the watchtower this morning and a prototype dock section.

Still need to make the ladder for the watchtower, and I have ideas to tweak the dock, but it will stay generally the same.

Those walls were awesome.

I hear you about the sound of your voice.
I had to do videos for a few classes and I could not stand it.
Finally had to quit.
I tried everything I could to NOT have to speak in the mic.
I sounded as if the mic were in my nasal cavity, and - well - in my mind I sound like the Rock if he smoked like Ule Brenner.

But, not the case. At all.

Oh, and by the way, I had the same experience with Dakka.
I figure my new ork pics broke the gallery and they had to fix it, probably took them a while too

My voice is not pretty because when I was 7 I had my tonsils taken out. The doctor had one too many during his mid surgery beverage fest and when he operated on me he up and did some damage in my mouth/throat. Obviously Dr bill was covered, but 35 years later I still have the annoying relapse from time to time when seasons change and my voice cracks like a pubescent teenage boy. My son thinks it's funny, but he's just hitting that age so we'll see what he thinks of the cracking voice.

Not much spare time in the future, we have to get grandmas house emptied and sold. Some major butthurt from my father-in-law also rearing its head as he was written out of the wills 15+ years ago, and now just realizing he's not getting anything out of the house. Not even tchotchkes . He is threatening legal action, guess he forgot that he punched out the lawyer 15 years ago when he was told he was written out .

Anyway most of my days/mornings off will be spent digging through and dumping tons of crap out of the house and then lots of 1:1 scale painting. Also have to replace a 60 year old retaining wall and move it back 4'. The wall is 6' tall on one end and tapers down to even on the other end and runs approximately 60' long. That's out of my league so we've gotten 4 bids, lowest was over $8,000 . But it has to be done before we can sell the house.

Well I got some painting done on the tower, pandaman doesn't like it and is about to F-troop the tower with his sword.

Also primed a ton of figs

These are different than the ones in the above picture. They are the clearance Alkemy figs I've bought over the years. Speaking of Alkemy they are running a Kickstarter to bring it back out as a blitz game. Lower points, smaller games faster play.

+1 for the F-Troop reference. The tower looks nice and tall. Good. Maybe some upturned corners on the tower roof to give it a more far east Asian look?

I grabbed the Mazu's Curse expansion for rum and bones mainly for THAT fig, but also because I got it off the damaged rack at MM. there are a few other neat figs in that set and at less than $1 a fig it was too good to pass up. I'll be using all of them eventually. The alkemy stuff is nice looking, but the prices for the game are too high to me. I'm not backing it, and the fact that English is a secondary language to them and the translations have been rough really don't point to a good future for the game.

Sacrilege, pandas are cute and adorable, they are not food .
The tower is meant to be more of an outpost set up hastily, so probably not too much ornamentation will ever adorn it. Plus if it's close to where they need to be watching it's probably going to be kindling soon So no point in making it much more than serviceable. Though I might add some sashimino to it or have them on it so they can visually warn troops nearby of what's happening.

F-Troop was one of my favorite shows as a child

Well, entire family will be headed to grandmas house in unison today to start shoveling. That is clearing out the basement and sorting the crap from the not-as-crappy "collectibles" I fear my kids will be doing the same to me one day.

But this morning I decided to try out something I saw on a YouTube clip. What do you do with 1" pvc pipe? Cut it into 2.5" pieces of course .

I had a stick of pipe about 6' long so I got 31 pieces out of it and since I didn't have pipe glue I just wasted half a bottle of superglue. Net result is a much more visible display of which dropper bottle paints I have

That's about a third of the dropper bottles I have. I'll need more pipe and pipe cement as that's cheaper than superglue. But for supplies on hand that I already had it's a cheap paint rack that's very effective. I think for $10-15 I'll be able to get all my dropper bottles set up this way. It'll get a piece of plastic on the back of it, and I could mount it and wall hang it next to my paint desk to give me more countertop space.

It's also given me an idea for some Christmas craft gifts.

Thanks Llama
Idea came from this video

They use other pipes for other paint brands as well.

I also had some 3/4" pvc pipe which only the dropper bottle cap fits into, I thought about using that, but the bottle itself was too unstable.

I have been geeking out with ideas on the PVC since I saw the video. Different sized caps could make great paint brush holders, larger pipe could be cut for spray cans of primer .

um, err. for paint, of course.

I find tiered spice racks are also really useful for paint storage (especially the ones with the compartment lips) and even useful for painted model display. Looks like you already have some of that going.

Also, acrylic nail polish racks for wall mounting.

Ive been using the tiered spice racks since Dsteingass pointed them out from Walmart, but the dropper bottles have always been a problem to me because it’s hard to see the color of the paint when you get three deep on the spice racks. This is also much narrower and more vertical which means more tabletop surface to use .

Dakkadakka has been giving me trouble the last 24 hrs again. Haven’t been able to post or even view the site.

Well Samurai September is done.

18 miniatures plus plenty of terrain and a paint rack. I call it successful.

Now what to call October and still stay in the feudal Japan theme? Onitober? Help me out here all you silly anime watching gaijin dogs .

Oh yes....and let it begin with.
This is my Rock.

Edit: also made a ice piece...just because I saw a video and had extra glue stick next to me and I was having a mental block.

Took one glue stick and cut it into three unequal parts. Used a knife to trim the sides roughly. Glued it to a base. Washed it with a blue wash. Added white stones and white sand. The crystals are translucent .

It’s not sticky, though shaped like a stick (sorry), but it is flexible, which isn’t really a bad thing. Just need to make sure you use one of the “clear” glue sticks.

You and your wrestling stuff . Mr. Socko would like a word with you

inmygravenimage wrote:Ice: Ooh, that's an interesting trick for Mr Freeze...

Yeah, almost makes me want to build a frostgrave table and I haven’t even looked into that game .

Well I took two hours, including drive time, and decided to expand the paint rack. I bought 2 more 10’ long 1” pvc pipes and broke out the miter saw again.

I couldn’t find my clamps or anything to build a block so I grabbed some other clamps and an old anime vhs tape that was in the garage and used it. Lots of chopping and some cursing when a couple pieces went flying and I had it all cut in about 30 minutes.

Whole lot of cleanup later and 8 starters gluing...still outside as I bought clear pvc cement which has a high odor and irritant level. I used a scrap piece of plywood for a straight edge to keep one side steady. When I had it all glued together the scra0 piece happened to be just the right width to match the height I built the rack to , so I trimmed it down as a backer panel. Since I’m still missing 8 pieces to make it fully rectangular and hold 124 paints (not planned), it currently will hold only 116, which should be more than enough for right now. It’s sitting outside to air out currently, I’ll get the desk ready for installing it later.

Total spent today on this rack $12.88, and 8 have most of the 8oz bottle of glue left still. Even if counting the superglue and half a stick of pipe I already had this is less than $20 for this rack.

It really is a helpful paint rack. I have all my dropper bottles loaded up now, which is only 78 out of the 116 spaces, so I have plenty of room to grow. The only thing that it doesn’t work for are my army painter tones (washes) as they all look the same brown black), so I’ll figure something out with them later.

I was thinking about how to tell the difference between similar shades of color when looking at them from the bottom of the bottle/dropper (I have many shades of greens and browns- some of them very close in color- for camo patterns) and was wondering if I couldn't just put an abbreviated label on the bottom with a Sharpie?

Sorry, been under the weather and just worn out, also hobby mojo is in limbo right now. I know a few of the factors that I can work on to get back into the swing, but like always some are out of my hands.

I’ve been struggling with deciding on buying the Green Horde Kickstarter for a while, today is the make or break deadline. There’s a few of the models I really want, but most are just meh. But I also know if I don’t buy it now then I won’t get the exclusives that I want, but hobby funds are rare and getting rarer every day around here.i haven’t played but one or two games of Black Plague and massive darkness is just sitting there . I should skip it to have funds for other gaming things, but it’s one of those heart wrenching decisions....

So no progress.....but talking with the family I may be building a few things for around the house which could alleviate my creative blockage. The two biggest ideas are a cat tower/ tree and my son and I building a Christmas train table layout (which might also function as a gaming table).
