I seem to have the experience that using the "Mark all messages as read"-function also somehow resets my "place" in a given thread.

Using the "Unread"-function afterwards (after new posts are posted in a thread, of course) sends me to the OP, instead of the first unread.

Any help?

Your 'place' in a thread is marked by the last read date, not post IDs (as deleting posts would muck things up, and it is harder to do clever database stuff based on post IDs). Marking all as read makes the read date 'now' for everything, so your place in all threads becomes that point in time. Using unread when you've already read a thread (by clicking mark all read) will send you to the first post.

Does this still apply after new unread posts have been added in a thread, after I used "Mark all messages..."?

Just clarifying.

Provided the new posts occur after you click mark all message read, then skip unread will take you to those new posts (or should do at least).

And therein lies the problem.

In my experience it does not. It sends me to the OP.

Ah sorry misread your original post. I'll make a note to investigate.

Thank you for your time.

And I apologize for my unclear post. Looking back it was less than adequate to explain the problem.

Sorry for resurrecting this thread.

I've had the same problem a few times now, usually when I was reading from work and clicked the 'mark all as read'. When I'd return home and log in 'skip to unread' would take me to the OP of each post.

Is this a cookie issue between my different computers?

It is definitely a bug and is on the to-fix list.
