Nah, I played Diablo before it was popular.

Never played ANY of the diablo games.

Zork did it for me back in the day. I don't need to play that kind of game anymore.

Zork being the father of all interactive games and encompassing all subsequent sub-genres?

No, just encompassing ALL dungeon bashing games (fallout included).

Nothing about Diablo when it was released interested me.
The same for D2 and 3. It's like Evercrack or NWN or any of the other D&D 'lite' games.

Pretty much if it isn't a (more than modern) FPS where I can kill and blow stuff up, I'm not interested. TPS blows chunks and RTS - I'd rather play diplomacy.

I tend to agree, I play it casually, but its not addictive the way diablo I or II was....I think its just the evolution of every MMO right now, in that they dumb down the content to appeal to the instant gratification crowd. And the witchdoctor is a slap in the face....a poor attempt to appease the fans for removing the beloved necromancer (grrrrr). I will be honest, no game ever gave me the thrill of EQ1. In that game there was a real sense of dread and danger, becuase if you died there were real consequenses, you had to run back to your body naked and grab all your stuff....and your body might not be in a convenient location...after all its where you died. also if you didnt get back in time all that prized gear would disappear. Now that was a challenge...none of this "oh i died, darn, better go throw some gold at the vendor to repair it..suck that cost me 100gp and 3 mins of my time. I mean seriously what point is there to a quest that gives you an arrow telling you which way to go? Remember when you had to work as a gaming community to solve quests using sites like Alakhazam (spelling)? I still have a binder of printed out fan-made maps for all the original EQ1 zones and Kunark zones. You used to need to have a pencil and paper to keep track off stuff...now that was gaming....stuff today is weak...the only challenge is PVP and they even screw that up after a while. I mean I got real tired of having to have 7 pieces of BOE gear to just be on the same starting field as other players...if you didnt you just got owned.

You are standing in an open field west of a white house, with a boarded front door.
There is a small mailbox here.

Living room.
You are in the living room. There is a doorway to the east, a wooden door with
strange gothic lettering to the west, which appears to be nailed shut, a trophy
case containing Warhammer miniatures, and a large oriental rug in the center of the room.
Above the trophy case hangs an elvish sword of great antiquity.
A battery-powered brass lantern is on the trophy case.

On a small desk there is an Atari computer that is completely incapable of playing Diablo 3.

Its only fun when I play it with my friends. By itself, the game was COMPLETELY boring, since I've done that kind of thing like a trillion times already.

I will forever remain humble because I know I could have less.
I will always be grateful because I remember I've had less.

Ironically I have the opposite effect then the original poster.
I have probably played more games of 40K, and painted more models since Diablo 3 came out.

The game is so underwhelming its not even funny. Diablo 2 was great, however Diablo 3 really just feels identical to Diablo 2 with some shiny upgrades, and exploding opponents. The Necromancer too skill to play in Hell mode, the Paladin actually had fun builds that made it fun to party with. The classes now are just so disapointing.

The game is seriously dumbed down. I agree with the above, since when does a game actually give you a flashing circle saying goto here to find dungeon... goto here to find next stairs for next level. Seriously are gamers that bad now? Your companion never dies! I have had the Templar helper who just kneels down, then stands up and starts smashing. Identify items with a right click, free town portals, its seriously a joke. Its a nice change of pace from WoW, but nothing that is going to cause me to want to play it. I can give it 15 mins at a time, then I start painting.

Not quite. I never had an atari computer. Had a console, but that was it for Atari.

Commodore 64 all the way.

Now this man speaks true, Q1 was the daddy.

Remember the old lower guk trains or finding your way through zones to find the zone for your own level. or even crystal caverns nightmare of trying to get both in and out if you hadn't a druid or the likes.

EQ was a great game, and trying to finish quests was weeks almost. Granted alot of quests were poor, but some were well worth it and took weeks.

Loved my paladin in it.

I was a big Ultima online fan, but i think for the reasons you guys loved EQ, that feelign of peril, PK'ers running around and all that, really searching for stuff. mmm fun times.

i liked D2 alot but i think thats where life in gaming stopped for me, i was so close to buying D3...i had the box in my hands i looked at it and i looked at it...then i put it back, i just didn't feel like playing it, i will give it a try on my mates pc and if i like it enough for the single player i will get it...but to be honest it looks colorful, easy, and i think i will get exactly the same from playing D2 again.

i will get D3 one day....but i don't think it will blow my mind the way i want it to.

For now Doom 2 still gives me a great hoot, Diablo 2 is fun for a quick dungeon mash and thats about all i can be bothered with for now

Ha, as a different spin having a D3 stream on while I paint is a good way to break up the monotony of painting.

It's actually spot on. This thread is about distractions to gaming and hobbying.

Thanks for playing, though!

She knew she was going to effectively become a widow when the game came out. Those Steve Madden shoes I bought her may also have something to do with it.
