Subject: is 500pts of Iyanden a viable list? (with keeping the Ghost Warrior theme)

Hey, thinking of finally getting around to painting my Eldar and was thinking Iyanden would be challenging to paint and that 500pts would be a good starter, but Wraithguard are 35pts each, so that makes things a little tricky.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

It will indeed be hard to make a Iyanden list that includes wraith guard at 500pts but I have had some success with the following:
Farseer - Ro Ward, Fortune - 95
5 Wraith guard - warlock w/Embolden - 205
10 Guardians - EML - 100
10 Guardians - EML - 100
Bang on 500pts and a great starter for a Iyanden list.

If you aren't having any guardians and only wraithguard it will not work or fit into the points. Although you could have a fairly effective army in 1500 points, im working on a wraithguard, wraithlord and harlequin list atm, there is literally only a farseer, wraithlords, harlequins and wraithguard (and a few pathfinders!) and it comes to about 2000 points, hard to play but fun to paint and effective when played well, a wraithguard list will be hard to play and impossible to use at 500pts. Iyanden is great though!!! Automatically Appended Next Post: Also, i tend not to use guardians as they are too flimsy and probably my least favourite models of the eldar army but thats just preference

Thanks for the replies, I appreciate the feedback!
I like the general straightforwardness of the list you posted, but am curious about one thing: the Wraithguard can handle most things, like enemy vehicles or MC's, the Guardians can chip in too, with either solid shot S8's or Template blasts, but what is the Farseer's role with just Fortune? Plug him into a Guardian squad or something else?
Thanks!

He will be there to keep the wraith guard up and running, T6 with a re-rollable 3+ armour save, they should near impossable to bring down, against small arms fire.

Playing an Iyanden list myself I know that it's hard to keep the theme in such a small army
I mainly go with
Farseer w/ Fortune - 85pts
5 Wraithguard- 175pts (the warlock has little use unless its a spiritseer to make them troops and that only works with 10 WG)
5 DA's x2 - 120pts
Wraithlord w/ EML - 115pts
Total's out at 495
Basic tactics are leave one DA squad back the camp the objective and run the other one forward with the Wraithguard. Farseer is with the guard fortuning them. Point the Wraithlord towards the enemy and walk while launching off missiles. If dealing with heavy armour ie 13, 14, run it straight and try and punch it out. This list has worked fairly well for me in the past but I find that Eldar really need at least 1000pt to become 'impressive'.
Also, Iyanden Eldar are a really challenging army to paint, it's taken three years but I've finally found a yellow that suits them

Thanks for the reply! Ihear ya when it comes to painting yellow, geesh! I'm trying the new Cassandora 9or whatever) Yellow shade over the Iyanden Darksun Foundation paint, its not too bad, though I've only done one test Guardian.
So its basically the difference between two squads of 10 Guardians w/ EMLs and two squads of 5 Dire Avengers and an EML Wraithlord?
That's a bit of a tough one...haha
Any thoughts on that guys?
Thanks!

You could just go straight to wraithlords at 500 points, and even throw in the avatar for more MC goodness. HQ Avatar-155 Troops GuardiansX10. Shuriken Cannon-85 Dire AvengersX5-60 Heavy Wraithlord-Dual Flamers, Shuriken Cannon-100 Wraithlord-Dual Flamers, Shuriken Cannon-100 500 on the nose You don't have a psyker so wraithsight can be annoying, but wraithlords are near impossible to drop at such low point levels.

The most important rule of 40K-Page XVII of the 6th edition rulebook, the figure at the top right of the page. "Shake hands with your opponent and thank them for a good battle and fun experience." Then go out for a beer.

That does sound pretty crazy, but I do like Farseers, or even Yriel for fluff.
I do have a question: what could you do with these kinds of lists against enemies like I.G. Vet filled armies, Ork hordes that include lots of PK's, so on and so on?
I know this is sort of a Tactics kinda thing, but I'm curious if Iyanden is even worth bothering with at this points level.
Thanks!

Unfortunately against a large force they struggle to hold their own as the weight of fire (or combat in the case of orks) will take it all down bar the Wraithlord.
When it comes to Orks the forced retreat is a good option, where you get your DA's into range quickly then slowly back-peddle while maintaining shooting. This works similarly against IG. Frankly, when it comes in GEQ's, Wraithguard are next to useless. Apart from being used as a blocking unit they really won't do much else simply because of the sheer number of troops.
As for Serling's list, I know for a fact that it wrecks nearly everything it comes up against. No one is prepared to take down two Wraithlords and an Avatar at 500pts
(also on that painting bit, do try the Cassandora yellow wash, its wonderful )
