Hey guys, for those who aren't aware Mantic are launching a Kickstarter project for their new release of Kings of War.

The 'news' thread in the main section is typically belligerent, so I thought it might be nice to start a topic here away from the hoi-polloi

Some pretty good sounding pledges, and the total value jumped up about $500 in about 10 minutes so I'm sure they will hit the target!

So what have people pledged to it, and how much?

Already passed $3k.

Was planning on getting the Hardback Rulebook anyway, so I went in for $35. May up that before the end for some Werewolves.

I'm in for the book and a one player starter which we will use as a prize at the new War & Peace club.

If I can I'll also be upping for those werewolves

Hey guys, for those who aren't aware Mantic are launching a Kickstarter project for their new release of Kings of War.

I think it's a rather brilliant idea, and an excellent use of Kickstarter. I'm put in for the "Captain" level along with the undead werewolves, as undead werewolves are the best kind!

Thinking about this now this is a really great way to try and get people to play Kings of War, rather than just proxy in the models for WFB.

The book is so cheap that it works out well just getting it as well as some discounted minis. Mantic stuff is very popular at my club, but generally just as unit filler, this might be the kind of thing to get people to give the game itself a try as well.

Well, the UK is waking up to Saturday morning now.. they'll probably make quite a lot from this. Let's just hope they're careful with all this money (and can clarify their aims a little better on the page).

I will probably pledge at least for the hardback rulebook, I'm not sure about what else yet. Those Werewolves do look like a nice option..

It's just a bit of a pain that both Mantic and Sedition Wars have chosen to go at the same time. Yes, I know this is not mere coincidence, and I'm guessing has been timed to coincide with the GW price increase (and presumably those companies hoping gamers will say "not again", then be looking at other options) but it means that both projects are probably losing a little money because of those who cannot afford to give to both.

I'm not surprised they're doing well- I see mantic as a company that has broadly delivered on all it's promises. I may not always agree with the design direction of individual projects, but the way they conduct themselves as a whole is pretty much what I want to see from a games company. This is one of the only Kickstarters I've considered getting involved in.

I just hope they know when to call a halt to increasing stretch goals and say "right, this is as much as we can do, even with all this money, so we're stopping here!"

Partly because of the price increase, and for what you get with 100 bucks, I am more than glad to throw in at the level. I have never looked at their stuff before, but it looks good. Just have to pick an army now.

Yes I agree, a lot of the sculpts are lovely and I think very under-rated (perhaps not helped previously by some of the 'official' shots by Mantic themselves).

I'm making up an Orc army at the moment, I love the design aesthetic of them!

Looks like they have new concept art up in support of the Kickstarter!

Too bad in my country no one cares about Mantic. Only me, damn it!

New update!

We've been running this Kickstarter for two reasons - 1) to help fund the development of new miniature kits for Kickstarter and 2) to reward you guys for your support! So far, every backer will get their copy of the Kings of War Hardback Rulebook signed by Ronnie and Alessio and upgraded Mantic Splat dice. Everyone who has pledged $100 or more will receive:

- A free Orc Chariot/Fight Wagon

- Your name immortalised in the Kings of War Hardback Rulebook

- A free electronic version of the Kings of War Hardback Rulebook

- A signed Lithoprint of the Mantica Map

- a free ticket to our Mantic Party in September

But, that's not enough for us and, as detailed in this week's upcoming newsletter - we want to give you more!

So, here's what we're planning:

If we hit the $65,000 level, we will do a new unit every $10,000 until we get to $95,000. These will be:

- $75,000 - Trolls
- $85,000 - Mummies
- $95,000 - Gargoyles/Harpies

At $100,000 we will sculpt the Undead Skeleton with Dog – and give one free to everyone with a pledge over $100.

At that level we will also do a limited edition run of the wound markers in blue acrylic plastic – and these will be unique to Kickstarter subscribers!
What's in it for me?

One of the challenges the Kickstarter presented is that we cannot give away extra units at the $100 level, it just isn’t feasible. Jan Novak however, has come up with a solution:

- Any pledge of $100 or more will receive one of the new figures each time we pass the stretch goal

- Any pledge of $175 or more will receive a complete unit of the new figures as we reach the goal, and a free limited edition Undead Standard Bearer.

- Any pledges over $225 will receive one of every unit – including the Werewolves and one unit of the Ogres, one of any hero model that gets sculpted as a result of the Kickstarter and the free limited edition Undead Army Standard Bearer.

Please note these are for values, not specific pledge levels. If your pledge is over the qualifying level you will get the rewards from that point.

For example: If you order the $110 Veteran and add a $75 army set from the extras you will qualify over the $175 level (you’d be at $185) and get all the $175 rewards.

So, that's the plan going forwards! Please continue to support Mantic and tell lots of people about it - the more backers we get, the more free stuff we can give you!
