I first learned of this product from Eisenhorn hear on Dakka Dakka. I located the products at Michaels and used their 40% off coupon so it ended up being pretty cheap. Here is a tutorial on how to use these products and THANKS EISENHORN for finding them!
Cat
Please take a sec. to tell me what ya think of the technique or results.
It looks pretty effective, however the "Sophisticated Finishes" products are rediculously expensive in the UK so are really not worth getting unless you churn out a lot of this type of stuff. Pity.
More bird poo on the head. LOL, sorry couldn't resist. I've already done my statue, but I think it will work great on the broken buildings. I'm stopping by Michael's tonight I think...
The Emperor loves me,
This I know,
For the Codex
Tells me so....
You Sir must work for these guys. I bought your pitch. Just ran out to Michaels and bought this product. I was able to find both bottles (smaller) on one pack for $11.99 us. I will be using an Inquisitor from the inquisitor game as a bronze statue. I'll post pics in a spoiler on his thread late tonight or tomorrow.
Lols. Nope, I don't work for these guys! Nor do I make one penny off any of this hobby including my youtube page. I am eligible to be a partner for revenue sharing but don't participate in that either. Good luck using the product and I am looking forward to seeing how you make out!!
TBH I am not sure how to put him into a spoiler window. He came out alright. I ran into trouble with the bronze drying quickly and missing parts that didn't oxidize. Then I went back added more bronze and oxidation agent. I think he got a little too covered... but he can just be extra old and extra corroded.... his plinth is going to be shot up and scorched.
All in all for $12 the amount I have will see a lot of use and considering the paint and patina is essentially fire and forgot (took 5 min of painting) I really cant complain. Its a lot better than taking your time and hand painting weathering.
That looks fantastic dude!! As you can see for yourself now, the product covers extremely well so using the product for this hobby, the bottles will go a LONG way. There is always a learning curve to using a new product and yes it does dry fairly quickly. Thanks for sharing!!
I used the exact same stuff to do mine a good while back. It is awesome and easy stuff. The Rusted Iron is less great, but the bronze comes in two shades and is really quite awesome. And not terribly expensive, and like you said, covers well and in decent thin layers.
Good video, I think more people need to see that product because on a effort/results basis this stuff ranks high.
Yes its definitely worth it on an effort / results basis. http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/30/448561.page I have finished his plinth on my blog page for anyone interested in seeing him finished. Fluff wise I opted not to go with bird poop as the planet this statue was on was nuked a couple thousand years ago and only plant and single celled life has survived the fallout, the imperium has just started to recolonize this lost world.
I wouldn't run it through an airbrush as the paint actually has metallic pieces in it (which is how you GW the natural patina) I would be worried about ruining the airbrush.
I'm sharing this on facebook. What a great video. I think I am going to have to try this technique. And there's a Micheal's real close to where I live and I'm familiar with that paint brand.
If not for the mediocre who would be great, and thank goodness for those who are just terrible they make even those who are mediocre look great
