Hi Members,

I have a very large Dark Eldar army with two full squads of Wyches. I am going to make few additions to this army so it can be a Wych Cult army.

Basically I need about 30 more Wyches and some warp beasts.

Now I have 11 new blisters of Dark Elf Witches laying around and am thinking of using these to suppliment my Wych Cult. The Witches carry two hand weapons and are cool looking. All that would be needed is round bases. I figure it is a $40 savings for me.

No players that I know would be upset if I proxied Dark Elf Witches for Dark Eldar Wyches in a friendly game....BUT....

   1. Would I be able to use them in a tournament game? ( official ruling)

   2. Would I be able to use them against you in a tournament game? (Personal ruling).

Lastly, I'm looking at the Warp Pack/Beastmaster unit and I'm thinking this is one of the best point values in the game. I mean the Beastmaster is a 15 point guy and he comes with a 20 point weapon- "The Agoniser". The Warp Beasts with 3 strength = 4 attacks each plus a 19-24 inch charge range is sweet. What do you think?

I wouldn't care, but I think that there's a good chance of running in to a WYSIWYG nazi who will insist that they must have pistols modeled on them.

Warp beasts are a good little unit, but the models are hideous.

1. For an official Tournament ruling, you would have to ask the specific tournament judges.

2. For a friendly game, if you were using them as a temporary proxy until you got the actual models or until you had time to convert the proxies, I wouldn't mind. But, if these are your final models, I would prefer that all of your Wyches were WYSIWYG with each other, if not truely WYSIWIG. Meaning, consistency is more important than true WYSIWIG most of the time.

I played a game recently against a work-in-progress consistent but non-WYSIWIG list and it was not too bad. It was an SOB list, and he had models of many different special and heavy weapons, but the only upgraded weapons that he actually paid for were Stormbolters. It wasn't a big deal, because I did not have to remember which meltas were meltas and which meltas were stormbolters, instead, whenever I saw a heavy or special weapon, I knew it was a stormbolter. See what I mean?

I don't think you'd have a problem using Dark Elf wiches, as long as there was some converting involved. Give them splinter pistols, etc.

Just looked at the wiches on the US store, and I have to say they would actually make pretty cool Dark Eldar Wyches, with some conversion work.

I'm doing the same thing right now. My decision was based purely on aesthetics though. The Wyches are so ugly compared to the Witches. (The fact that I was able to get most of my Witches through trade or at 40% off is purely coincidental, and cool) The converting is actually really simple too. I'm mainly just doing weapon swaps for splinter pistols, blasters, and wych weapons (which are somewhat improvised).

I don't think there'd be a problem for these reasons- 1. 100% GW parts. GW doesn't like you using other people's minis for their games, fine. 2. Weapons are completely WYSIWYG. 3. Come on they're scantily clad, evil, lightly armored, hand to hand fighting elves. They're exactly the same thing but with better models. And symbols of Khorne (I mean Khaine)

Well if you look at the Wyches you'll see not all of them are armed with "Splinter Pistols". Some have 2 Hydraknives. Others have a Shardnet and Impaler, and others Razorsnare and Falcion. So I'm thinking as long as I show a few Wyches in each squad with pistols I'd be covered. If I had to try and convert each Wych it just wouldn't be worth the effort.

The more I think about it, a diverse Witch/Wych Squad could really be a unique unit as compared to the Stardard SM unit with a SGT, two Special weapons guys and 7 identical Marines.

The Wych squad could have a Succubus, Blaster Wych, Shredder Wych, Hydraknives Wych, Shardnet Wych, Razorsnare Wych, Pistol and Hand Weapon Wych, some Dark Elf Witches and maybe I even some DE Witch command Models.

Heck, while I'm at it, maybe I'll get some Chaos Warhounds and Fleshhounds and sprinkle them into my Warp Packs.

I have used dark elf wyches for my army. I have put pisto holsters on their hips and legs, put some guns in some of their hands, and some I left alone to resemble the wyche weapons like shardnet and impaler, hydra knives, etc. I think you should be fine with that type of conversion. My warp beasts consisted of dark elf cold ones. The base is the same and the dino looks so much better than thos skittish crack-cats that are supposed to be warp beasts.

Club me. Ain't I cute?

That's a good point about the holstered pistol. It comes on the DE warrior sprue. Just glue it on and you don't have to do a weapon swap. Much easier.

The Hammer

A bit of hacking and slashing, distribute the bit evenly between all your figures and they'll look better than ordinary Wyches.

When soldiers think, it's called routing.
