So I absolutely hate the kroot models, but I definitely can see their use in the tau army. I was thinking of taking some beastmen models and converting them up as kroot. Is this something that would be acceptable in most local tourneys? It should be pretty obvious what they are in the list, as there are not any other units that would be similar to these.
Also, has anyone else used anything else for their kroot?
I use plastic skinks for kroot. They are cool. Plus, you get alot in a box, and beastmen can be confused with mutants. Although, with the beastmen, it can also be LatD.
I use both plastic Beastmen models and plastic Scaven to supplement my Krooty ranks. I use them as Kroot Carnivores and have modeled them with Kroot Rifles (or Krooty guns for the diminutive Scaven) so that they are WYSIWYG. Whenever they hit the board, I take the time to tell my opponents they are indeed Kroot Carnivores. From a background standpoint, the KMA is a mercenary organization. I'm sure even the Kroot subcontract some work - which explains the presence of other Xenos.
From a money standpoint, plastic Beastmen and plastic Scaven are a better buy than the Kroot Carnivores. You pay the same price but you get 20 models in a Beastmen/Scaven box versus 16 Kroot. Great deal!
