I want opinions on whether Tau could have a chance without using railguns.  I wanted to build a themed Tau scout force that doesn't have any heavy support in it.  I'm trying for something really unique to set it apart from the multitude of clone armies that are bound to result from the release of the new codex.  This was a quick summary of what the list would look like, but since I don't know exactly what the new codex changes it relies on rumors and points costs from the old codex.

HQ-      Angkhor Prok                                                         75 points

Elite-      6 Stealth Suits                                                         180 points

Elite-      6 Stealth Suits                                                         180 points

Troops-   4 Pirahnas with fusion blasters                                260 points

Troops-   4 Pirahnas with fusion blasters                                260 points

The only thing I can say, is wouldn't a Tau scout force include the unit that they use for scouting?

Just to make it more interesting, I would probably drop 6 Pirahnas, leaving each unit a unit of 2, and pick up at least 1 unit of Pathfinders. Maybe drop a scout squad for some drones, just for variety.

That is all mostly fluff type stuff though.

Onto actual tactical advice.
I suggest trading every Kroot Hound into a Kroot. Kroot work better as Pillboxes. You want the extra firepower. The sum of your antitank is in 12 lightly armored speeders, but that isn't so bad. One squad should be able to take down a vehicle, with a bit of luck, in one turn of shooting.
They are a bit fragile though.
You have quite a lack of any long range weapon, but everything infiltrates except for the fast stuff, so not as big an issue.
Overall, I would probably find some points, maybe from taking down a squad of stealth to put Decoys at least on the Pirahnas. Maybe Targeting Arrays as well.

1+ fire warriors is gonna be a problem I think.

Also, I'd get some sniper drones and pathfinders for this kind of list, and probably a sky ray or two. I know it beats your no heavy support concept, but pirahnas with fusion blasters are not going to suffice for killing vehicles and Ap3 as well.

Actually, I think pirahnas wiith fusion blasters do a pretty good job at killing vehicles.

I think his method of dealing with MEQs is weight of fire, not AP3.

But on that note, I think the Sniper drone team would be a fluffy addition, a way to use a heavy support choice and somewhat useful as well for long range fire.

I don't think an army that loses at shooting straight up with bolter marines is going to be killing a lot of meqs through 'volume of fire.' Stealth suits are great and everything but 18 stealths only kills 36 marines in an entire game of shooting to full effect with no casualties.

If you want to win with a list with this kind of concept you're going to have to make a lot of units work together. Kroot and stealth suits do not an army make.

I also think it'd be pretty funny if you wound up playing someone with two squads of terminators, a lysander wing, grey knights, or similar. The list as it is simply autoloses to too many armies.

And the worst part is that the army is doubly illegal:
1) New dex requires a crisis suit HQ
2) 1+ fire warriors are required.

Almost any Tau army will lose at stand and shoot against marines.

That's why you use a mobile list, like he has. It plays heavily off of VP denial, and it works fairly well.

The army is illegal, but I am thinking that the basic concept is worth a second look and some battlefield experience.
