This blog is a means of motivating myself to actually paint the 120-odd men in my current IG army, only 1500 pts...

As ever C&C is much welcomed and appreciated.

Without further ado, the mighty grey horde:

I think the metal is too 'clean' and contrasts too highly so some black wash might be good to put on it. Re: your basing thread, Use the textured brown (stirland mud), highlight with an offwhite/cream/light brown (zamesi brown, karak stone) add some small blobs of static grass and paint the rim in either black or dark brown

Just a small update, my first Commissar, Commissar Pavel Batitsky.

Any suggestions? I haven't washed yet, was planning to use a black wash.

Sorry for the lack of updates, I ended up in Spain for a week with next to no notice.

The 500pts list is fully painted, starting on my penal legion but I'm not that pleases with them

Something a little different, my 2nd battle with the 9th Meridian, 500pts

Facing an opponent with (initially)
a Tervigon (the one that spawns termagaunts?)
Far too many hormagaunts
A squad of genestealers

My army consisted of:

Company Command Squad (2xflamer, power weapon, vox)
5 Stormtroopers (2x melta, power weapon)
5 Stormtroopers (2x plasma, bolt pistol)
Veterans (GL, Autocannon, power weapon, vox)
Veterans (GL, Autocannon, power weapon, vox)

Deployment:

Spoiler:

No real shocks, Tyranids as far forward as possible, Guard as far back as possible, melta stormtroopers in reserve, Tyranids get first turn, and move as far forward as possible, the genestealers failed to get into assault and were left in the open for the squad camped in the ruins to the right. The Tervigon spawned 11 termagaunts

Guard turn, 5 genestealers killed, the remaining 3 ran into the ruins behind them, far too few homoagaunts or termagaunts killed for my liking, the left flank unable to equal the success of the right.

Tyranid 2nd turn, 14 termagaunts spawned but Tervigon unable to spawn any further. Hormagaunts manage to charge the furthest left squad (ouch, I thought I'd get another round of shooting), termagaunts (both squads) charge the stormtoopers, genestealers rally and move to the edge of the ruins they are in. Both stormtroopers and the veteran squad are wiped out, the hormagaunts dealing 54 attacks, 17 wounds, I saved 7.

Guard 2nd turn, CCS managed to cover every single termagaunt with their flamers and killed every single one. Squad in the ruined building killed about one hormagaunt. The melta stormtroopers deepstriked, shot the tervigon....

BOTH meltas rolled ones to wound, though one hot shot lasgun managed to cause a wound,

Tyranid turn 3, Charges. The Hormagaunts charges the CCS
Spoiler:

Wall of flame (great new rule) killed four, but in return the CCS was wiped out, unable to pass 20 armour saves.

The genestealers charged the squad in the ruins
Spoiler:

The guard killed one with overwatch, and then the remaining two in close combat without a single casualty of their own.

The tervigon charged the melta stormtroopers
Spoiler:

The Sgt took one wound off with his hot shot laspistol in overwatch, then one in combat with his power sword, the tervigon killed the two non-melta troopers. combat drawn.

Guard turn 3. I made a mistake, I ran the unit in the ruined building out, hopefully out of hormagaunt charge range, however I rolled a 1 for running and forgot I was allowed to roll 2 dice as per my rolled warlord trait. (oops)

In the tervigon combat the Sgt took another wound with his power sword, then the tervigon wiped the squad out.

Tyranid turn 4. Catching the remaining guard in the open the tervigon fired its spine weapon (S5 large blast template), killing 3 guard and 5 hormagaunts. The remaining hormagaunts then charged the 7 guard still on the table, and wiped them from the board, leaving victory to the Tyranids.

Overall the game was a very fun one, and man of the match IMO was the stormtrooper Sgt who took 3 wounds from the tervigon singlehandedly.

I know, I need to get my camera, but it is at my parent's house, I also now have a black wash to darken the metal.
