My fellow Necron players, the 6th edition rule book is almost upon us. For those of us who keep up with the ever churning rumour mill, Necrons seem like we're gonna get a nice little boost here.

Here is what I have picked out of the rumors that helps us out. (All of this is obviously based on rumors so some of it may not come true)

1. Rapid Fire - Being able to fire twice at 24 inches makes Warriors, Immortals and Deathmarks ALOT better. I can almost smell the burning corpses now
2. Sharpshooters - Snipers being able to choose their target on a to hit role of a 6. This will make Deathmarks a freakin ridiculously good deal for 19 points. Shooting twice at 24' and picking out squad leaders/special weapons/attached ICs.
3. Relentless - Adding an extra shot to units with this USR will, once again make Warriors, Immortals and Deathmarks really devastating. However, how Relentless works is kinda foggy right now, it may be for only when you move.
4. Vehicle Hull Points - The rumor here is that you can stack shaken and stunned results to make bad things happen. Living Metal provides us with a nice save against this. Also, Ghost Arks have as many Hull Points as a Land Raider...awesome. I wonder how many the Monolith will get?
5. Gauss vs Vehicles - It looks like Gauss weapons will strip away a hull point for ever 6 rolled for armor pen. We're already good at destroying vehicles, after this...vehicles will be a peice of cake to deal with.
6. Preferred Enemy - Re-roll to hit with shooting and close combat. This means all Destroyers basically have twin-linked weapons. I have also heard they it may allow to re-roll 1's to wound. I may need to buy some Destroyers....and the Destroyer Lord will make a comeback.
7. Easier to hit vehicles in CC - Vehicles are going to be easier to hit in CC, so Scarab Swarms will be just that much deadlier.
8. Stacked instances of Night Fighting - Haven't seen this rumor in a while, but it was originally said that you would be able to stack multiple instances of Night Fighting to create Veil(1), (2) or (3). Each one with a shorter possible distance of sight.
9. Flyers - Flyers are in, and they seem like they are going to very hard to kill and I think we currently have one of the best Flyers in my opinion. Doomscythes already put out good firepower, with good survivability, they will be a must bring.

There are a few more things good for Necrons I've read, but I've chosen to leave them out because they either came from a less than reliable source or just seemed to good to be true.

The bad things for Necrons

1. Psychic powers - This one is first and foremost. I'm worried that with so many new powers floating around, we may have been left out of something that is going to give other armies a huge boost. How bad it is remains to be seen.
2. Charge distance - Everyone charging 2D6 is not good for our baseline infantry who are prone to getting swept. Enemy close combatants will be getting to us faster
3. CC in general - I've not read anything that was really going to help Necrons out in CC at all. I also have a sneaking suspicion that Warscythes are going to be AP3(which is freakin ubsurd and just really...really stupid on GWs part).
4. Jump Infantry - Looks like jump infantry get a free hit at I10 when they land in CC with you. Yet another way the enemy will hit before us and add to their combat score.

Well my fellow Tomb-go'ers. What do you think of the future of Necrons in 6th edition? The rest of you mortals may throw in your 2 cents as well....I suppose...

Ah hell it's going to be nob bikers all over again.

In any case, I've been building up my Necron collection ever since 5e came out. Looks like my early investment will pay off dividends.

Also, may I ask where you got your avatar?

Necrons have some strong CC Jump Infantry - you left that out when talking about con #4.

You're quite right. Wraiths are awesome, but Destroyers are going to be so good that them and Scarabs are going to fill alot of peoples Fast Attack choices. Wraiths, as good as they are may be seen alot less.

@Kain. My avatar is cut from the Necron Codex art of the Cryptek. The picture is colored and enhanced by an artist called "Majestic Chicken". He is awesome. Check him out on Deviant Art.

Well necrons have jump troops too and the hit will benefit those quite a bit.

Snipers get to allocate hits? There's a way of dealing with troublesome psykers.

On sixes they do now, apparently. I think that can make up for rending pretty handily!

Actually, the Warscythe is not a power weapon; the rules specifically state that armor saves are not allowed against it.

And let's not forget that there's now a reason to take the Sempiternal weave since most power weapons are now AP3. Also Vargard Obyron isn't so bad anymore, yay!

I've seen his picture, but it's tied to another one. How did you crop it to just get the crypek?

And yeah, Vargard will laugh at power weapon in CC reliant armies. IG powerblobs and Banshees? Pfft feth that noise.

YES!

Looks like I'm going to need a 10 praetorian unit with blades+casters and a Destroyer lord with MSS and Weave (probably orb too).
11 (i10) hits on the charge
34 hits at (i2) depending on how many survive, and the lord can tank normal power weapons on 2+

The biggest thing though is that +1 for jump infantry against us, too many blood angels here.

The stacking thing is interesting though, I wonder allocation with that works like if someone rolled 3 weapons destroyed, would that become a wreck or an explosion and a weapon destroyed.
3 = weapon destroyed + 1 for another + 1 for another = wreck so one hull point is gone.
3 weapon destroyed + 3 weapon destroyed = explosion + weapon destroyed so 2 hull points or 1 and a weapon gone are used.

Wow! You're right. I thought it just said power weapon. Thats awesome news.

@Kain. I just used Microsoft Paint. Its easy, just save the picture, cut out the part you want, paste it to a new blank picture and then resize it until its 120x120 pixels.

If anyone's been following the wound allocation rules, Necron units now have the potential to be amazingly tough and resilient (even moreso than before). That combined with the fact that Look Out Sir! is in, pretty much allows you to do some creative damage allocation and saving using Necron ICs and Harbinger of Eternity. For example if your unit is getting hosed with stuff that your Overlord can take on a 2+, just put the Overlord directly in front of the unit and he can soak 2+ wounds all day long to prevent the fire from coming through to your squad, WITH a re-roll on the armor save. If he ever gets low on wounds, or loses a wound, you can start trying to pass an every shots through to the Necron squad on a 4+ with Look Out Sir!, which possibly could mitigate even more damage. If he fails the 4+, well you still have a 2+/3++ to fall back on. Again, where applicable you can use the Chronometreon to mitigate damage. And after all this, your squad has Everliving and Resurrection Protocols (4+). This squad comes in somewhere south of 400 points and as a troop blob or if you'd really like to spend the points Lychguard, this squad is super tough.

Also, I'd love to see a squad of 10 Triarch Praetorians now with voidblades and pistols on the charge give now that charging jump infantry get that I10 free strike when they charge a unit. Has a huge potential to devastate a vehicle completely, kill things before they even get a chance to hit, or take armor saves off multi-wound creatures. I still think these guys are overcosted and not as good as Wraiths, but they definitely got better in the new edition.

Oh, and I heard a rumor that you can Infiltrate ICs with Infiltrators, even if they don't have Infiltrate. So yeah, it may be possible to put a Necron Overlord with a squad of Flayed Ones now and infiltrate. That squad just got a bit better.
