I am new to Warhammer 40k

Ive been lookin at Daemon Hunters.  Would they be good for a new player?   I was thinking about creating a 1,500 pts list.  Could anyone give me ideas and if the Daemon Hunters are bad for a noobie tell me, and give an army that would work.   Thanks.

BnD

Ps.  I am just looking to play a regular quadrant game.

Canned Daemonhunter Response:

Following the example of Lord Commander Janthkin, I've decided to create a canned response to all request for Daemonhunters information.

Welcome to the Daemonhunters, the ranks of the exalted Ordo Malleus and their cannon fod....er, I mean, loyal allies.  So read on and be enlightened.  Remember...the only ones who need fear the righteous might of the Ordo Malleus are the Daemonic.  And those who serve the Daemonic.  And those who might serve the Daemonic under threat of torture or death.  And those who traffic in unholy artifacts of the Daemonic.  Or who's brother's sister-in-law's, cousin's, best friend's, neighbor's, son's roommate, once saw a Daemon...

Daemonhunters are a more...Advanced army.

Granted, it all depends on what you're trying to get out of the game.

I personally like the daemon hunters and I think the small numbers of your own troops will make it easier for you, however certain parts of their rules get really annoying trying to remember. . .

You may also get kind of annoyed with the next army you play because you will be wondering where all of your nasty tricks went. . . of course then you will look at your army and realize you aren't outnumbered 50 to 1 either. . .

(tip play a pure demon hunter force at first, then begin expanding out by using allies, so you can learn about the other armies)

I'd recommend against choosing an all-metal army that's extremely challenging to paint well, as a newbie. And to top it all off the metal models are expensive money-wise as well.

My tactica is for 3rd edition but still has some validity.

My bottom line is they are a lot of fun but hard to play, especially as a new player. But if you like them there's a lot of people ready to help.

The first questions you have are:
Grey knights none, some, all?
Inquisitors, storm troops etc - none, some, all?
Marine allies (if you don't talke GKs)?
Imperial Guard allies?

Once you have that down we can offer more advice.

should i go radical or puritan?
I was thinking more to the puritan side because i want to use grey knights but im not sure if they are worth it.
Should i go with a more elite army of all grey knights, or should i try mixing storm troops?
For hq should i pick an inquisitor or a Brother Captain with terminators?

Finally...Can Daemon Hunters deepstrike/infiltrait(sp)?

"Finally...Can Daemon Hunters deepstrike/infiltrait(sp)?"

Um, do you have the codex? You might want to read it. Short answer, no significant infiltrators but GKs can deep strike in every mission. only fast attack GK teleport teams and termis can teleport in.

As for radical vs. puritan, no contest. Rads get Demon hosts and unreliable unit that's not very powerful even when they use the power you want. Puritans get grey knight, the best marines evah. There was a WD that introduced some new wargear for rads but who knows if it's even legal anymore. i remember they were OK but nothing stellar.

Again, take a look at the articles centurian and I wrote to give you an idea of what works and what does not.

With the marine allies, Radicals have alot more crunch power than grey knights do. I'd take my radicals over my puritans any day.

One thing I'll disagree with KK on... DH do have some very nifty infiltrators. They're called assassins, both Ordo Assassinorum (Eversor, Callidus, and those other two that nobody uses) and the death cult assassins.

I've actually long suspected that 9 death cult assassins would make for a ridiculously effective infiltrator force. Never tried it myself, though.

Also, basically your choice to radical or puritan is largely dependent on whether you want to use Grey Knights or Daemonhosts.
