Well now, looks like we got ourselves another kickstarter! Nothing too big it seems, just a few dwarven characters for rpgs and the like. Already funded though! Its just stretch goal time now

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2087444096/dwarven-adventurers-box-set?ref=category

Dwarves have long been a fixture in fantasy literature and games. These sturdy little humanoids excel at taking on great odds and at consuming large quantities of potent ale. Any dungeon crawl or quest that lacks dwarves is depressingly empty. In addition to being a warm and welcoming people dwarves are also often the first line of defense against the slime-ridden denizens of darkness. Despite these laudable qualities, they are considered a lesser race by many of the other humanoids, little better than halflings. The haughty and self-important elves, in particular, seem to despise this diminutive yet noble breed. Help us show those pointy-ears once and for all by making your next hero a dwarf!

The Dwarven Adventurers Box Set Project is about creating miniatures to represent a set of 5 dwarven heroes. (UPDATE: at the $25 backer level and above the set now includes 6 dwarves!) The Group will include a paladin, a berserker, a cleric, a mage, and a rogue. The goal here is simple: get the 5 dwarves sculpted, cast, and distributed to all of you! Depending on the level of funding that the project reaches, the miniatures will either be cast in a durable urethane resin or white pewter metal. The Dwarves will represent a relatively balanced adventuring party and or a selection of dwarven heroes to lead in any fantasy army.

The Dwarves will be sculpted on a 28 millimeter heroic scale and will fit well with almost all tabletop wargaming and RPG miniatures.

Stretches

When stretch goals are reached extra value is added to existing rewards. As we pass these funding benchmarks, these benefits will become available.

When we hit $1500 Character Sheets for each dwarf will be produced and made available to backers in PDF format for each of the dwarves for DND 4th ed. and Pathfinder rules (possibly other rules systems as well depending on demand).

Because of the costs involved in pewter casting, it is only feasible for us after a certain order size is reached. When we hit $3000 the miniatures will be cast in pewter instead of resin.

When we hit $3500 An additional dwarf, the Mechanist, will be produced and included in every box set at the $25 backer level and above. This means each boxed set will contain 6 dwarves instead of 5!

When we hit $4000 Scenic bases will be sculpted, cast in resin, and included with each miniature.

When we hit $4500 Backstories will be written for each of the Dwarves and made available in .pdf format for all backers.

When we hit $6000 A second additional dwarf, the Necromancer, will be produced and included in every box set at the $25 backer level and above. Now each box set will have 7 miniatures instead of the original 5!

Once we make it past the stretch goals its time for EPIC GOALS!!!!!

EPIC GOALS are not part of the stretch goal benefits but are an entirely different thing that works exactly the same. How do you access these EPIC GOALS? By pledging or increasing your pledge to a pledge level with EPIC GOAL benefits!

Those benefits are listed below.

At the $10,000 benchmark EPIC GOAL a Dwarven Bard miniature will be included in each set along with the 7 other minis. This will occur at each EPIC GOAL eligible pledge level.

When we hit $15,000 in backing a ninth dwarf, the Druidess AND her animal familiar (a smaller mini) will be added to each EPIC GOAL eligible pledge level for a total of 9 dwarves and a critter.

When we hit $20,000 The Undead Dwarf is added to the EPIC GOAL eligible box sets to make 10 dwarves total!

$25 dollars for quite a few 28mm Heroic Scale Dwarf miniatures?

Sure!

(Kickstarter is getting to be more addictive than heroin, and possibly more expensive.)

(So I hear.)

Is there a secret rumour that kickstarter projects will be forbidden 1st July, or why is every company in the industry eager to ask for money in June?

Wow its at 6k already. So now its $25 for 7 miniatures with resin bases. Very nice deal. Though if this kickstarter breaks over to 10k and beyond people might start switching over to the $34 pledge

I'll probably go in on this one, as it's quite inexpensive and also the Zombies, but at a certain point not long after, I'll stop throwing money at these things and wait for the items to start coming in before sending out more.

McVey and Mantic (I missed Zombiecide) are both reputable, and I didn't put a lot of cash down for AoW, but at some stage you want to stop paying today for a hamburger on Tuesday.

Lots of readily-available minis and games I want to get, after all.

Yeah, although the truly small start-ups have more appeal for me than the really reputable ones in a way, because I know this will actually cause it to happen, whereas with the others my pledge would be like a drop in the ocean!

Plenty of time on this one for me to think it over, though . I don't actually play dwarfs, but do have a lot of rhulic, so maybe I can find some use for them... (not really likely, but trying to convince myself )

Update, hit 15k so Druid is in

We just wanted to let you all know that the funding level for the Druidess and her critter familiar have been achieved.

We have some great ideas for more Stretch Goals & Epic Goals! If our backers have any ideas of things they would like to see, feel free to add your ideas to our idea pile.

Sculpting Update - Armatures have been made and green stuff is being added to them!!

Thanks again for all the support and overwhelming positive feedback!

Well the $7 one says you get 1 of the 5, I dont think that covers the new ones though. You could ask. The $12 is more ambiguous and says choice of two of the dwarves produced without the "of the 5" text

Oooh, looks about right.

I'd be happy with the Druid and the Necro.

I may still jump on this, but how it sounds, they are making these in metal instead of the original resin as planned... which makes me a sad panda. I hate metal!

Hit 20k. Looks like everyone who wants more is going to have to cough up $6 more since in order to get the new Mega Goals you'll need to pledge $40

MEGA GOALS work much like EPIC GOALS in that eligible reward levels include all of the benefits from the EPIC GOALS and Stretch goals but could also include up to 5 additional dwarves! All 15 dwarves will be in your hands well before Christmas!

Here's the rundown on the MEGA GOAL dwarves:

When we hit $25,000 the Monk, a dwarf trained in unarmed combat, will be added to MEGA GOAL eligible box sets, bringing the total to 11 dwarves per set.

When we hit $30,000 the Huntsman, a master beast slayer, will added to the MEGA GOAL eligible box sets, bringing the total to 12 dwarves per set.

When we hit $35,000 the Witch will added to the MEGA GOAL eligible box sets, bringing the total to 13 dwarves per set.

When we hit $40,000 the Highwayman will added to the MEGA GOAL eligible box sets, bringing the total to 14 dwarves per set.

When we hit $45,000 the Shattered Noble will added to the MEGA GOAL eligible box sets, bringing the total to 15 dwarves per set.

I have a feeling this project is going to cost me $140.

Why get everything for $40 when you can have 5 of everything for $140 ?

Personally?

These "Goals" are getting confusing. I don't care, though.

I want some dwarves, thats my bottom line. I don't see this as even in the ballpark as the Alabaster game was.

Looks like there are three tiers: the first seven Dwarves (Normal), the first ten Dwarves (Epic) and the first fifteen Dwarves (Mega).

Pretty straight forward, actually - way easier to figure out vs. Mantic's page!

Because who needs 5 Dwarf Necromancers?

It is now confusing though. When they talk about 2 boxed sets etc at say $58, are they all of the figures or just the first 7?

Does it say you get the Epic dwarves? No? Then you don't get the Epic dwarves.

Now that would be awesome - and an excellent 'shout out' to a certain band of Old School Troublemakers too!
