For some time now I've been cobbling together a Void 1.1 Junkers army. It's about half way finished, and I've used it in games of WarEngine (the rules engine for shockforce). Recently though I've been enjoying warpath. While I do have a few neat RT era orks, I've no desire to make a horde ork army.

On the other hand, a horde of Greco-Roman Sci-Fi troops is pretty appealing and as they are fairly primitive, close combat oriented troops, I think they'd work well as Mauraders. The range of Junkers figs can't cover all the bases, but here's what I've got in mind. The stock pics are for figs that I own, but haven't painted yet.

Grunts: Junker Legionaires

Rippers: Junker Praetorians and Gladiators (gladiators pictured)

Raptor: Junker Buggy Got two of these.

Jumpers: Sandrunners. Not perfect, but the "jump packs" ability seems like it could represent the abilitiy of the lizards to leap and dash.

Juggernaut with ordinance: It's technically a "viridian" faction vehcile, but I couldn't resist buying one and I'll re-crew it.
3

Fragger team or tank killer gun. Another Viridian vehicle to be re-crewed with Junkers.

Battlebot: Junker's Exo Suits (on the left). or battle beast.

That only leaves out the stunts (gretchin/grots?) but I don't feel that I'm missing much there. I do have some plastic legionaires that I could arm with pistols...

Anywho, what do you think?

Yeah, they'd work great as Marauders, I've always loved the Junker miniatures.

Thanks! I went back and looked into my collection and sure enough, I have 30-40 of the plastic legionaires and a bunch of Hasslefree grymn SMG's that look like machine pistols for regularly sized figures. They are a bit less bulky than the metal legionaires with slightly different helmets. With machine pistols and knives, and leaving off the backpacks and shields they could be just the thing for disposable "stunts". I still don't know what to do with the Junker suicide bombers though.

Currently the tally is

30 figs and 1 vehicle painted

45 figs halfway painted (trying an assembly line system)

50 figs and 4 vehicles left to paint.

I'm from the future. The future of space

I think that's a great repurposing of those miniatures.

I have some Warzone plastics available that I'm thinking of making into a Corporation force.

One of my favorite things about Mantic is the return to the 90s aesthetics when it comes to miniatures. They have a very pleasing retro-quality that fits right in with the Void 1.1 stuff.

Marauders is a really good pick for rules to represent the junkers. But don't forget about the ally rules if something in the Marauder list doesn't represent the model perfectly.

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better.

Good point about the aesthetic. Though the mantic figs are taller, their style and proportions could work well with Void 1.1 figs.

The Warzone plastics are very nice figs that work well for virtually any sci-fi setting. Here's some plastic Warzone imperials that a friend of mine painted up and put Pig Iron heads on for use in Tomorrow's War. I think the new heads make them look slightly less WW1'ish.

Yeah, the warzone ones are good too, picked up a few sprues of those a while ago.

At the time (mid/late 90's) the detail and casting quality was actually a lot better than anything GW was producing.. it was still doing its one-piece plastics at that point in time.

Great blog, really like the mixture of different models being used.

Definitely give the new Warpath: Skirmish beta a spin, we've finished playtesting it and its really fun to play.

Rules aren't finalised yet (and are being fixed as a direct result of our feedback, yay mantic!), but they're still pretty fun.

Very True. I bought the Warzone box set with the intention of starting an IG army. At the time IG were only available in metal and $25 for 10 figs was pretty expensive back then.

Thanks, we really like games that give us the freedom to use whatever models we want, as the collections and tastes of our members is much wider than any one miniature company.

As for Warpath, I'll definitely be giving the new rules a shot when our Summer SBH campaign is finished. By then the rules will likely be even more refined!

Maybe I'll even have enough of my Junkers finished to field them without Forgefather (space marine) allies.
Maybe....
