So does this mean I am officially out of wargaming...Is it time for me to sell all of my stuff? I'm thinking about it. I have "kind of" quit before but that was a cognitive decision more "against" GW than anything. Then they drew me back in.. with 5th edition.

I'm just haven't had that unction to even play. I picked up a box of crons to do some some test paints..I put 1 together and there it sits in a box.

So...have I finnally grown out of wargaming DAKKA? Have I just been in denial all year...thinking that I am still a gamer but..not wanting to admit that I've moved on?

Way on back in the deep caves

Time to stop and evaluate before you jump to conclusions.
Do you still like to play the games?
Do you have opponents? Need new ones?
Do you like to paint/build?
Your answers to those questions should clear things up.
Perhaps you need to take a break from it for awhile.
Sometimes life gets in the way.
I have had to set it all aside several times over the years when home improvements, school, overtime, and family dramas have cropped up. But I always have miniatures in the back of my mind and feel downright re-inspired when I can finally get back to them.
Game groups will come and go, but there always seems to be a new one around when one fizzles out.

Try attending a convention like Historicon. They are great for providing inspiration.

Here's the thing to remember - just because you don't enjoy 40k anymore, doesn't mean you've 'outgrown' wargaming (which, in fact, is something I think is almost really impossible).

Why not take a look around at the current market? Surely there's something that suits your taste and captures your interest?

You're just having a 'lull'. I have them sometimes. I'd have them with WoW, videogames, books, and wargaming. I wonder if I've outgrown those things too during the lulls but something always draws me back in.

I stopped enjoying 40k so stopped playing it.

It didn't mean I'd stopped gaming. There are lots of other games out there (Infinity was the main replacement for me, for example).

Does this mean I got rid of my 40k armies? Of course not.
Just because I loathe the rules, fluff and so on of the game, doesn't mean I won't be able to use the littleplasticspacemens in some other set of rules (will be converting Marines and Eldar across to Tomorrow's War - IG (humans) are already adequately covered in that game).

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.

I have you beat. 4 years without playing a game. 1 year without painting. Mine is work schedule and apathy, both. Even when I have the time, I just cannot summon the desire to paint or play. It makes me sad.

The Orks are the pinnacle of creation. For them, the great struggle is won. They have evolved a society which knows no stress or angst. Who are we to judge them? We Eldar who have failed, or the Humans, on the road to ruin in their turn? And why? Because we sought answers to questions that an Ork wouldn't even bother to ask! We see a culture that is strong and despise it as crude.

You can skip more than one edition. I skipped 4 and 5 completely.

I recently sold off EVERYTHING wargaming that I own. I basically got fed up with the whole thing, not necessarily the games themselves, but all the rubbish surrounding them, price hikes, gaming group drama, finding time to paint and model.....the list goes on.

I still have an interest in the fluff, and Statue and RPG (table based and video games) keep me sane. Although the statue collecting does have a cost associated, it's way more controllable and you can be more selective on what you buy. The fluff side of things is relatively inexpensive and the same goes for RPG's.

Wargaming as a hobby is quite intense, but is also so dependant on being part of a successful goup, which while being one of the key selling points, IMHO is also one of it's greatest drawbacks.

Is this wargamers anonymous?

Anyway, my collection spent 10 years in the closet collecting dust until I played the Space Marine game and we got back into 40k.

Snurl pretty much hit the nail on the head. I wouldn't ever suggest selling your stuff right away, but if your answer to all of his questions is a definite no then maybe pack everything up for a while and get stuck into any other hobbies you may have?

If you don't get the itch to paint or play for a year then you can consider ebaying stuff. But if you don't desperately need the money from re-selling, I'd suggest you keep hold of it. It won't do you any harm to keep your army sat in the back of a closet. You never know when you might get the urge to play again in the future, and things are only going to get more expensive if you find that you want to re-buy a few years down the line!

I'm certainly fed up with GW games (well WHFB and 40K anyway) but my issue is I am just too much of an inveterate collector to stand getting rid of it all. I was looking at all the piles of stuff I have left to get assembled/painted what have you last night and the realisation that it will be a long, long time before I have gamed with most of it but even so, the thought of sticking it on Ebay filled me with dread!

My advice, move away from the same old faces in the wargaming scene and re-invigorate yourself with something else. You'd be surprised how much a change of scenery or a change of pace can refill your enthusiasm meter. At the moment, I have a passion for retro games like Blood Bowl, Man O War and the like and that has given me some new found impetus recently. As to 40K, I can take it or leave it right now, quite frankly.

I would say another point which helped me decide on the path I took, was really being honest with myself and with how much I wanted to be "involved" in the wargaming hobby, in the end the things that attracted me in the beginning was always the fluff and cool models, and it's those things which I have taken away with me, leaving the dice rolling, stats sheets and army building behind.

To be honest..I think it's the people factor. I live in a new town..and lets just say that for some reason it's hard to find gamers that are the kind of people I like to game with. I know there are really good gamers, that aren't the sterotypical "simpsons comic guy" gamer..but to be honest I don't think I have the time and energy to hunt them down.

Also, it's a time factor..job is demanding and family life leaves not much time. But if I was back home in orlando, I would probably make time to play.

i haven't played a game of 40K in over a year, but find constant use for my miniature collection when playing the various 40K RPG's. I couldn't bring my self to sell my stuff.

Give it another year or two and then decide. I've taken breaks that long from gaming, and gone to "dabbler" status for even longer at times. I've always been glad that I didn't sell everything off (though I sold quite a bit) as after every break I always came back to gaming eventually.

I'm now back to regular gamer status (20-25 Times a year) and I'm very glad I didn't have to rebuy my collection.

atm i really hate you filbert. i haven't thought of man o war for about 15 years, but being an ex dingy sailor, one mention of it gets me thinking i want to have a game.
In regards to the op, don't sell anything, wait a few months, then see.
I have about 120 orky models sitting under my bed atm, although i have no intention of playing 40k again, i know eventually i will want to paint /kitbash some orky things (and that's not looking likely in the next 5 years).
I think after a few months you may have a renewed effort to get into the hobby (or HHHHobby) and selling off crap really puts a halt to that.
