Just checked out the mantic gaming section today. And the new rulebook is up, and lots of army lists are missing. Whats the deal.

I have been worried that they might try phasing out their generic neutral humans list in light of their planned paladins, druidic and evil human armies.

Do we know if that is the case? That human list allowed me to do so much, i would be really disappointed if its going away.

If it was the only one missing I might worry, but if it is as you say and several army lists are missing I wouldn't, they'll probably get uploaded later.

I would have thought they would have gotten rid of their free rules as soon as their new rulebooks were coming out. Maybe I mis read that

Nope, Rules will always be free. The printed book is for if you want the fluff and extra content.

No,they're not dropped, the Kingdoms of Men list is staying.

New rules .pdf and army list downloads are coming soon, and released under a Creative Commons license, so you can even take them and use them as a base to write and publish your own set of rules if you like.

It just takes a bit of time to edit and publish 9 different .pdf documents is all (plus they're busy with all the warpath beta releases currently), which is why its taking a while to arrive.

Thanks for that.

I have the new book on preorder anyways, it just seems like the human army has a target on its back with the 3 new human armies coming out.

Cheers,

Yeap, they are making Nature, Celestial and Hell lists for humans, as well as the Kingdoms of Man.

The previous lists are from the previous test edition of the game, and they are mostly out of wack, points wise, so they were removed to make sure people dont confuse them with the new rules. I've been playing with a combination of the two (kickstarter people got the mini rulebook PDF early), and yeah, the old unit costs are pretty unbalanced with the new ones. And some of the units, like the warmachines, have been radically changed. New lists should be out in a week or two.

As far as I understand they've removed the Artillery hero from Kingdoms of Men though, as it clashed with the Dwarf Warmsith, but I think they are intact otherwise.

That being said, they don't intend to actually release normal Kingdoms of Men models for a long time. The idea being that KoM are generic rules that you can use with your other historical/fantasy minis. They are focusing on releasing their Celestial and later other more fancy human factions for now.

PS. Finally, Angels in a big fantasy wargame. I always found it weird that Warhammer Fantasy had daemons but no angels.

It's because the angels kept complaining about how the skulls clashed with thier wings.

Dont mind if they never get around to making generic human models. Dont need them. I have a truckload of perry and warlord stuff on the way, and on my painting table, specifically aimed at building up a kings of war humans army, and would hate to sully them with any theme like angels or what have you.

It might be smart for them to just stock a line of perry dudes, like the war of the roses and just rebox them as "Kingdoms of man" rather than reinventing the wheel.

^ The Perrys can't do that, their day job is currently working full-time for GW, and they can't have any clash of interests there.

At this point I kinda wish the Perrys would retire from GW and just do thier own stuff/some freelance for companies like Mantic. I think they just do the Lord of the Rings range now and with that being pretty much Finecast, I'm not likely to buy any of it, while I've thrown down about ~$700 in the last 6 months on Perry stuff.

Is it a conflict of interests to sell already complete miniatures to one company, while sculpting for another? Seems like it cannot be as they already produce those miniatures and sell them from their own business.

Especially since in this capacity mantic would be the stockist, like what they do with avatars of war now.

They could possibly sell the boxes they have done up now to mantic as a distributor, but if they were to rebox them specifically for Mantic that could be seen as a conflict of interest. I wonder if Mantic could put up a couple articles on building KoM armies using historical minis, say one using Perrys's, one using Warlord, and one using Fireforge (once the infantry come out).

However, I feel that most people who know about Mantic either know about the Perrys' own range, or find out about it soon enough, so I don't think there is much lost if people are just left to their own devices to sort things out.

Besides, I think you end up with a better/more mature breed of wargamer if people aren't spoon fed everything, even if it means the occasional one gets left on the mountain side to die.

Columbus, Oh

Well, Sept 1 here, and no updated download rules.

This is a bit of a bummer for me, as I was planning on finishing off some Undead assembling and painting, and I no longer have an accurate idea of what exactly I should be working on.

I HOPE that the older rules i have are close enough to work with... but in the hero/wizard area I need the new units!

Any clue what their time frame might be?

2+2=5 for sufficiently large values of 2.

^ None whatsoever unfortunately, the person who is doing the CC release of the army lists has had them all 100% completed for the last 6 weeks and just needs a "yes" from Mantic to put them online.
