Played a game against an empire player yesterday. I had a Level 4 with Shadow Magic and he had a steam tank. On one turn, the steam tank was clipped by the large pit of shades template when it bled over from hits on a different unit nearby. On another, it was hit by the penumbral pendulum. Does the steam tank use the engineers I3 or its own I -? We decided to use the highest Initiative to resolve. Just curious what others think.

You always use model's highest initiative value.

As far as I know, warmachines do not have an initiative. I think (don't quote me on this) that the Steam Tank would just die when clipped with an init. test

The engineer driving the tank has I3. We just assumed he'd be able to maneuver it out of the way when he saw it coming.

Steam tank is a chariot. Therefore you use the engineer's initiative.

Yah, it's not longer Unique, it's a charriot. It's not a war machine, it simply possesses some war machine-like weapons. Such as Ogre ironblaster.

If i remember correctly steam tank automaticly passes all characteric tests... rule in the army book so no I test required.

No such rule exists int he 8th edition book. It didnt even exist in the 7th edition one - it just was immune to spells without a strength value, from memory.

It is, as stated above, a chariot.

In 7th I think it auto passed all characteristic tests EXCEPT for Initiative tests. it Auto failed Initiative tests. but in 8th, no such rule exists.

Steam Tanks are a chariot, they use the highest characteristic in the unit for characteristic tests.
