Irked Blood Angel Scout with Combat Knife

Hello all.

My name is Kate.
I've been dancing with the idea of starting up with Warhammer 40k for a few years now, and I've finally decided to do it. (I've played Lord of the Rings - Strategy Battle Game and Battle Fleet Gothic in the past, so I'm familiar with wargaming in general.)

Reading through some codexes of my friends, I think I've finally settled on the Space Marine Blood Angels as my starting point. (The kicker was the Sanguinary Guard. I just love the way those Angels look. Plus Death Company looks pretty intimidating. And gotta share some love with the Stormravens.)

I love the hobby aspect of painting/modeling(/custom converting) an army. And I love the strategy of the game. (I especially love when I out maneuver/out think a boy and totally deflate his ego when he loses to "just a girl".) (On the strategic end of things, I'm a bit of a min/max-er, but aesthetics do have some importance.)

I'm still debating on whether or not to make my own Chapter Successor or to stick with the Blood Angels or maybe Angels Encarmine (love those white Sanguinary Guard and Death Company). If I do make my own Chapter Successor, I will call them either the Flying Tigers or the Flying Blood Tigers. (Imagine the same red core theme with black tiger stripes.)

And I just ordered my 6th edition rule book today, so I look forward to getting to know the details and rules schema for 40k.

Any recommendations, tips, tactics for me as a noob, but not so noob, starter?

Also, what's a good core set of units to go buy to start with for the Blood Angels? I currently have zero models, so I'm a blank slate.

Hi,

Welcome to Dakka

Welcome to dakka. Its always a good feeling knowing that I'm not participating in a global sausage fest, thanks for that.

I would say go for the Blood Tigers. Regular angels base red with black stripes, Death COmpany base black with red stripes.

As far as models, Death company are wonderful close combat units. Stormravens make great support, and you can't really go wrong with a Furioso dreadnought with twin blood talons (AKA blendernaught cause it blends everything it comes in contact with)

When it comes to Death Company (and Sanguinary Guard), I like the style of the Angels Encarmine with white power armour. And that would still fit in well with my "Blood Tigers" theme: red (traditional) tigers, and white (albino) tigers. But I'll have to test paint a few and see how they turn out (white tiger Death Company versus black tiger Death Company). Who knows, maybe a mix of both.

ooooo... White Tigers, me like. Unfortunately I'm not very artistic at all. I play necrons and I didnt want to just make them all silvery metal like everyone else so I painted some blue then painted a cryptek to match, then I painted some black with a cryptek to match, I had an extra cryptek so I started painting him red then all of a sudden Im painting Power Rangers. WOO!!
