So I have approximately 1645 points worth of Sisters to start working on shortly and I wanted to run a paint scheme past people for feedback and get some ideas on a possible conversion I'll be doing.
Now personally I love classic Sisters, it's an illness I know but black and red just look damn good. However to give them some visual variation I was thinking of doing the schemes like so:
Battle Sisters: Black Armor, Gold/Silver trim, Red robes
Dominicans: (scout/specials weapons) - same armor, green robes
Seraphim: (Jump) - same armor, sky blue robes
Sisters Superior will have the same general look as their squads, but portions of their power armor will be painted red to denote their veteran status (I was thinking greaves and pauldrons, helmeted sister superiors would also receive a red flash.
If I get around to modeling a dedicated squad of Celestine sisters (and I'd like to, just for fluffy fun purposes) their armor would be all red (elite troops) and they would wear white robes, standard Celestines would be trimmed in silver, the sister superior would get gold for the details.
Repentia would be done in red like the standard sisters but with a heavy Nuun oil wash to make them look filthy in keeping with their status. Their weapons however would be in shining perfect condition.
Retributors (heavy weapons) I admit I'm kinda lost... not sure what color would be good here.
Thoughts Dakka? Decent paint scheme? Or aim for something more original?
On to the conversion, I was thinking of modifying the seraphim jump packs
by adding Sanguinary wings:
The question is where to add the wings and should I fold it in with green stuff? I'm thinking attack near the pack itself, inside of the engines and back at a slight angle from the rest of the mini. I'm more then open to suggestions however but I want to avoid taking a file or craft knife to the girls. Sisters are 'spensive and bits are just shy of impossible to find so any damage I do accidentally or not would be permanent.

Well one thing you could do is get some standard marine backpacks and then attach the wings to the rounded exhaust vents, that would insure that you won't have to tear up the seraphim jump packs it would also allow some variation since you can attach the wings in different ways to give the appearance of flight.

That would.... hmm, well wait, if I'm removing the SOB packs I could probably just use the Sanguinary Guard jump packs themselves since I'd already have the bits *facepalm*

To me, the robes are a big part of the model and making them different colours between the different squads would make it seem they are part of diferent orders.
I stuck to the same color for armour and robes (black and red) and varied the pauldrons to denote which squad was what. Black - normal sisters, dark gold - dominion, silver - celestian.
Squad leaders additionally got their chest armour painted gold to denote their veteran status and had different colour hair to the normal squad members.
To differentiate squads of the same type, I varied various details on the backpack (the 2 exhausts).

I just gave superiors and higher gold helmets and celestians themselves different backpacks entirely. For actual squads I mark the rim of the base a dot of a different colour for each army I do. I guess you could add a mark to one of the sleeves or something for it if you really wanted.

I can see your point there certainly, my thinking was actually influenced by US Navy "float coats" on a carrier deck where each job is color coordinated for fast identification.
Definently something to consider on just using the pads for color identification and leaving the armor scheme similar from model to model.
Hmmm... left pad with the fleur de lis is one of the above colors depending on designation, silver insignia designates a normal sister, gold indicates a veteran/sister superior. Corresponding right pad is always black, silver for sisters, gold for sister superiors/veterans. Sisters superior still retain the red armor highlights, and I think I'll keep my previous pattern for celestines to some extent....
Not_u did you switch to Space Marine back packs?

For Celestians I only used helmeted minis, which took a long time of Ebay patience to get 2 squads of 10.

Getting /any/ SoB stuff requires ebay patience, normal patience and the will of the God-Emperor just about, or the occasional windfall of luck.
Or well buying them new from GW and if you can afford that, I'd love to see your yacht some time.
I think inverse color schemes will make the Celestians pop, especially if it's established that veterans have red portions of their armor, etc. Could probably write some fun fluff up for that.

Shandara, n0t_u, any words of advice or wisdom on painting sisters before I begin the paint crusade? Or any one else really.

Not really, the basic troops themselves are pretty straightforward. Some of the faces are a little tough though, so if you do paint eyes some of them will work by only painting one eye instead of both.

I'm low skill level so I'm probably going to avoid the eyes for now... so easy to mess up DX

I basically painted as follows:
Primed white
Basecoat black everywhere, except face/robes/hair
Basecoat red on robes
Basecoat deneb stone on hair
Paint robes red
Wash robes with red wash
Highlight robes/wash etc.. til you get it shaded
Elf Flesh color on face
Flesh wash on face
Drybrush white hair (or other colors for the sergeants, etc..)
After that it was merely details. Since the armor is black I didn't highlight it except the kneecaps/shoulder pauldron edges with a grey line.

So I settled in to using the Wings and Jump Packs from the Sanguinary Guard for my Seraphim.
And I'm considering using this 28mm female paladin as a Crusader counts as simply to add some flavor to the Crusaders in my battle conclave,
Conversion will basically consist of a SM assault shield with a Fleur de Lis (head canon says she was a battle sister picked for the Crusaders) at her feet like she dropped it to take a solid two handed swing with her power sword, then add a purity seal to her armor, maybe the sword depending on my bits pile. Opinions?

Work on it enough and you'd have a canoness, seems like a decent base for one. I don't use crusaders, but it already looks the part a little added work like you said will tie it in with the rest.

Shield on the back maybe?
It's a nice mini, I would've put a crusader-style shield slung on the back.

Yeah on the back is the other option to having her drop it, for the heavy double handed strike. It depends on how the assault shield fits on her back once I get my hands on the mini and the bit. The one question I need to answer before I consider that option though is if crusaders wear power armor or not. If they do I'm thinking the space marine command sprue eagle head power pack would make for a cool conversion.
Edit: the other thing with the shield on the back is whether it'll play nice with her pony tail or not , I'm rubbish at chopping at pewter models and prefer to avoid it if I can.
Edit the second: I suppose I could forearm mount the shield as well, I've seen some shields like that various places... don't quite think it would work though.
