After drooling a little bit over the possibilities of the Quad Gun I decided to do something about it

Not wanting to follow the standard brute force approach of the Imperial pattern for any of my armies (advanced Guard, Tau and my Terran/Protoss alliance force) and a little inspiration from dnptan Ive got the following progress to report.

Rather than having the static Imperial interceptor mount I thought it would be better for my army to have something a bit more mobile that could be deployed easily, and hence with a little help from Puppetswar I have my Quad Gun:

OK, so it doesn't have 4 barrels, but after seeing Guarder's awesome Hydra conversion, I had to have some of that action The only problem at this point is that Puppetswar sent me 2 left hand cannon Currently trying to get a replacement right hand cannon.

The self-propelled platform can also be outfitted with an Icarus weapon mount:

The puppetswar stuff is pretty good (the wrong bit nothwithstanding) with a few holes and a bit of flash, but generally nice and clean with minimal warping. The Icarus has been modified a touch to allow a higher elevation as it is supposed to be an AA mount.

Anyway, on to my favourite bit, the Aegis line concept

So, we need a defensive line with no simple big chunks of metal allowed. Energy fields are the obvious alternative so below is my prototype portable energy field generator. It didn't quite fill the base for the 2" defence line length, though. So what else could help against incoming fire? Drawing on the awesomeness that is Starcraft 2 again I pulled together a Point Defence Drone lasering an incoming missile

This was a good fun build and I've got enough of the bits left that I should be able to whomp up another couple of PDDs to be assigned to other Aegis line bases. I'm not as taken with the energy field as I think the generator is a bit big for the field size. I will probably try another one using a the larger flying base.

I also have another idea for a rather less advanced defence line concept, but I had to get the PDD done first (this base can always be the prototype used for closing the back door)

Exceptionally creative and very cool on the tau defenses!!!!

(I am making a missile pod base thing, similar to a fw turret).

Love the drone shooting the missile out of the sky!

I do think that a forcefield is more....eldar than tau, but hey, thats just personal preference...your model is very cool.

I like the forcefield idea - the only downside is needing quite a few bits to make a full ADL.

On its own it looks very cool. I'm not sure how it holds up when repeated to full length though.

I love the Tau barricade, excellent stuff!

Very tempted to try it out for myself. Could you show us progress into some more sections, or this section painted?

Cheers

I like it all, exceptional build on the force generator. If you could build a bunch more with separate flying drones i think they work great either just on their own or as a defense line. Awesome.

Life is like a box of chocolates. A cheap, thoughtless and perfunctory gift nobody ever asked for. Unreturnable because all you get back is another box of chocolates. So you're stuck with this undefinable whipped mint crap that you mindlessly wolf down because there's nothing left to drink. Sure once in a while there's a peanut butter cup or a English toffee, but they're gone too fast and the taste is fleeting. So you end up with nothing but broken bits of hardened jelly and teeth shattering nuts. If you're desperate enough to eat those all you've got left is a. An empty box, filled with useless brown paper wrappers.

Thanks guys

I'm planning on making at least 1 bigger one to try and do a longer Aegis line section, so we'll see where that takes me.

And here it is! Taking advantage of a spare flyer base I will be able to get 2 of these sorted out to get me half an Aegis line made from energy shields. The other half will be a bit more prosaic as I'm running out of flying bases...

I still need to add some cables from the power source, but its pretty much there. By pushing the fields a bit out from the base it makes it the regulation 5.something" but it does look a bit funnywith the field stopping just above the ground... oh well

Thanks guys. They are not currently glued to the base as I might want to do some basing as well, but who knows when I'll get around to it

I had another look at my quad-gun counts-as and modified it a bit to make it look more capable as an AA gun. Modified the ammo drum location to allow more elevation, magnetized the mount so it can swivel and added an air search radar. Now to wait for the replacement cannon for the other side
