Hey everyone, I'm trying to finish up my display board for Nova and parts of the board will have water. My flyer bases all contain water effects that I made using woodland scenics water effects product which works great. However, it would take forever to use on large areas.

I'm pressed for time so I don't think something like glue is an option, so I'm looking for something that I can do quickly. I'm not opposed to using the water effects on top of that, but I'd rather avoid having to fill the entire surface with the water effects...

Thanks for your help.

Self leveling filler, paint and a gloss varnish work well enough if you don't need to be able to see through to the bottom.

A lot of the fillers can be brittle - but as long as you have them on a sturdy base...you shouldn't have any significant issues.

Envirotex dries fast, works great. I did my swamp board with it;

Seeing through the bottom doesn't matter in this instance, the liquid will end up getting painted green to match my flyer bases.

The order I did those bases was 1) water effects 2) paint 3) water effects. So really all I need right now is something to give me the basic running water texture.

Edit: @AgeOfEgos - any idea where I could pick up EnviroTex on such short notice?

Edit: Looks like maybe AC Moore / Michaels will have it.. I might go try and pick that up right now

Great, thanks for your help. Could you give me an estimate at how long it took to dry for your board? It looks about the same depth.

Tough to answer that one--but two days is going to be pretty tight. I think the official cure time is 72 hrs--but it's definitely tack free way before that (I would guess within 24 hours it was for all intents, cured). However, this was at a constant 75 degrees with little to no humidity--and those two factors will weigh heavily.

If you go with this--use or borrow a small propane torch--or a big lighter (BBQ lighter). You need to pass this over the resin after you pour--as this will remove the bubbles (It actually just burns the oxygen trapped in the bubbles) and will help with cure time.

Also, check--then double check--then triple check--then have a neighbor check--to make sure you are sealed up nice and tight before you pour .
