NEWCC 2012
Welcome to NEWCC! A glorious event going back a decade or so, the North East Warhammer Club Challenge represents the joyous tradition of clubs meeting up to test each other’s mettle, ogle each other’s models, and claim bragging rights (and a year's ownership of the prized NEWCC cup) among our peers and others who love the hobby.
As last year’s event was Warhammer Fantasy, this one is Warhammer 40,000. As normal, clubs participating must be capable of organizing, officiating, and hosting the event next year if they win. Next year, as is tradition, the title will be decided by Warhammer Fantasy once again. Our aim is to have a competitive tournament, but even more importantly to have a great gaming day with other clubs, showing off our armies, throwing the dice in camaraderie, and hopefully sharing beer and war stores afterward.
To enter, a club should contact Keith Bonneau at Keith.Bonneau(at)gmail(dot)com . Bear in mind that a club should only enter if they are capable of hosting the event next year, running a Warhammer Fantasy for four man teams (although it does not have to match the exact format of this year's) to carry on the glorious tradition. The entry fee is $10 per player to go towards prize support. Last year's champions, Dark Star, will attempt to defend the cup and invite all challengers!
Where & When
NEWCC 2012 will be hosted by Battleground Games and Hobbies, 25 Taunton St., in Plainville, MA.
The date is October 20th 2012 (schedule below).
Rules!
Each club participating must field a four man team, each using a different army book. Any current army book may be used.
Terminology notes
Team = The entire four man group.
Alliance = A combination of two players/Armies for a given game.
Army = The force fielded by one player within a Team or Alliance.
The format this year will be three rounds of doubles. Each round a given Team will be paired against another Team, and play two simultaneous doubles games. The first round pairings will be random, and subsequent rounds paired by the Swiss system (closest battle point totals are paired against one another). Each team MUST use all three of their possible pairing combinations (Alliances) over the course of the day, but they may choose which Alliance to use when.
Player A + Player B AND Player C + Player D
Player A + Player C AND Player B + Player D
Player A + Player D AND Player B + Player C
Example: During round 1, the judges announce that the “Bay State Brawlers” will be playing against the “Pennsylvania Pencilnecks”, on tables 9 & 10. Each team then advises the judges of which combinations of players they are using this round (“Tom & Jerry on table 9, Balki & Larry on table 10”). They cannot repeat that combination of Alliances in rounds 2 or 3.
Lists will be limited to 1250 points(but no less than 1200).
No codex can be used by more than one player.
Warlord Traits will not be used.
Aegis defense line and Bastions are the only available fortifications , Bastions are 0-2 per team, there is no limit on Aegis defense lines.
The Force Org Chart for this event will be as follows.
1 HQ, 1-3 Troops, 0-1 elite, 0-1 fast, 0-1 heavy, 0-1 Fortifications.
Each player may take one additional slot(from: troop, elite, heavy, fast), though not the same slot as another member of their team.
No allies may be used.
All armies treat other members of their Alliance as allies of convience, this supercedes the BRB table.
SCHEDULE
9:30am Doors open
10:15am Rules briefing, questions as needed
10:45am Pairings for round 1
11:00am Round 1 start-

7:45pm Awards
AWARDS AND SCORING
Each game will be on a 20-0 sliding scale, based on VP differential and a primary and secondary objective.
Painting will be worth 40 points.
AWARDS
Best Overall Team
Best Team Generals
Best Painted Team
Best Team Sportsmen- Most favorite votes, ties broken by battle, then painting if necessary
Best Individual General- Highest battle points from a given person’s games, ties broken by who had the lower-tier army
Best Individual Appearance
SPORTSMANSHIP
Along with your Round 3 results sheets, EACH player will choose which opposing team they found the most fun to play against. Each such vote will be worth 1 overall bonus point to the final standings. NOTE: We expect the level of play at NEWCC to be above reproach. Cheating will not be tolerated. Anyone found cheating will be dealt with harshly, incurring penalties to both their individual games score, and possibly the team score as well, depending on the offense.
MISSIONS
NEWCC Scenario 1:
Deployment: Vanguard, Night fight (both as is from 6th ed. rule book), The Relic(see below). Primary objective is worth 8 points (4 for a draw). Secondary objective is worth 4 points (2 for a draw).
Primary Objective: Table Quarters. A team may claim a table quarter by having a scoring unit from each player within a table quarter and have it be uncontested. A team may contest a table quarter by having a denial unit (follow the same rules for contesting objectives from the 6th ed. rulebook) from each player in the table quarter. The team that claims the most table quarters at the end of the game wins this objective, if each team controls an equal number it is a draw.
Secondary Objective: The Relic. Place 3 objectives along the center(diagonal) line, equidistant from each other (around 28.5"). The center objective follows the rules for "The relic" excepting that the relic cannot be moved more than 6" per turn. If it would be forced to, the unit controlling it, drops it. The team that controls more objectives wins this objective.
VP Scale:
VP difference --------- winner/loser
0-400 --------- 4 ------- 4
401-800 --------- 5 ------- 3
801-1200 --------- 6 ------- 2
1201-1600 --------- 7 ------- 1
1601+ --------- 8 ------- 0
NEWCC Scenario 2:
Deployment: Dawn attack, night fight (both as is from 6th ed. rule book), Objectives (see below), Dead or Fled(see below). Primary objective is worth 8 points (4 for a draw). Secondary objective is worth 4 points (2 for a draw).
Primary Objective: Dead or Fled. Before deployment, each team will secretly write down one of their opponents armies. Once both teams have done this, each team reveals their chosen target, proceed with deployment. The winner of this objective is the team that scores more kill points from their chosen target's army. If the totals are equal, the result is a draw.
Secondary Objective: Objectives. Before deployment, but after choosing sides, each team places 3 objectives on their table half. Roll off to see who places the first objective, and alternate. Objectives may not be within 10" of a table edge or within 10" of each other. The team that controls more of their opponet's objectives at the end of the game wins this objective. All other results are a draw.
VP Scale:
VP difference --------- winner/loser
0-400 --------- 4 ------- 4
401-800 --------- 5 ------- 3
801-1200 --------- 6 ------- 2
1201-1600 --------- 7 ------- 1
1601+ --------- 8 ------- 0
NEWCC Scenario 3:
Deployment: Modified Hammer and anvil, night fight (as from 6th ed. rule book), Objectives (see below), Targets of opportunity (see below). Primary objective is worth 8 points (4 for a draw). Secondary objective is worth 4 points (2 for a draw). Modified hammer and anvil will be as NOVA. "Select one short table edge, and one long table edge adjoining it. Measure your deployment zone 24” from the long table edge, and 36” from the short table edge. Opponents set up in diagonally opposed zones."
Primary Objective: Objectives. Place one objective in the center of each table quarter, and one objective in the center of the table. These objectives can be scored throughout the game starting during the second game turn. Follow the normal rules for controlling an objective, but each team will check for control at the end of their opponent's turn. If you successfully control an objective at this time, mark it down. The team with the highest total at the end of the game wins this objective.
Secondary Objective: Targets of Opportunity. Before deployment, each player will pick a target of opportunity from an opposing team members list (note: each player may only have one of his/her units chosen during this game). Roll off to determine which player picks first, then alternate teams until each player has a target of opportunity. Each player must destroy their own target of opportunity, if your teamate kills your target, you do not score this objective. A team wins this objective if they have more players scoring their target of opportunity than the other team, all other results are a draw.
VP Scale:
VP difference --------- winner/loser
0-400 --------- 4 ------- 4
401-800 --------- 5 ------- 3
801-1200 --------- 6 ------- 2
1201-1600 --------- 7 ------- 1
1601+ --------- 8 ------- 0
EDIT:
ATTN Teams coming from out of town. If you need to come up friday or are planning on staying the evening and heading home Sunday. Team Darkstar (and hopefully others) is planning on getting dinner nearby (to which you are welcome to join) and would happily play some pick up games with any/all comers on either day.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House! |

What a great event this was and well worth the work up to it on my Necrons. For those who didn't make it I took a few pictures and they are over on my blog http://akersminis.blogspot.com/ but also if any of you haven't made it to one of Keiths events then you are missing out. Thanks again Keith for running a good show and I look forward to seeing you again at Temple-con for the GT you run their as last year was a blast!

Thanks for the pics, Emp! Also thanks for the fun game (you and Jared were both excellent sports and a ton of fun to play with) against such a great-looking army. Need to see some more pics of those bad boys.
Thanks to Dark Star and Battleground Games for doing a great job hosting. Thanks to Dark Star and the NE Big Gunz also for great, fun, competitive games. Even resorting to using Space Wolves instead of the CSM I'm still experimenting with, I personally only went 1/1/1 yesterday and had to rely on my teammates to earn a bunch of points. It was funny running four mostly-assaulty armies with no flyers in 6th, though.
Congrats to my team mates on hoisting the cup once again, after going down to PA to win it two years ago, and Dark Star taking it off us last year.
