Uh...yea. I bought my models to play the game so I build them with whatever weapons are best in the game. If I just wanted display models I wouldn't be buying plastic necromunda kits.

stratigo wrote:

Because GW didn't think people would go through the effort of acquiring the models to make the stupid busted combos. Like they always do.

1 box of Van Saar can make 2 plasma guys and a dual plasma pistol guy. That with 4 lasgun teks is the "cheesy" starting VS gang. The grand effort I had to go through to get my third plasma guy was searching ebay for "van saar plasma" and buying the first item that popped up for $4. Wow, such effort. It's almost like if you make a game, people will find the optimum combos to win the game. That's half the point of games that have a winner and a loser. If GW doesn't want that, maybe they should make games with more balanced weapons and asymmetrical victory conditions. Until then, I'll be rocking my plas/las gang and anyone who has a problem is free to not play me.

That's not that busted. VS are good, but not this good. If you want to play van saar like this and thing you're getting one over on your opponent, you're gonna be pretty sad when your leader falls into a hole. The reason not to do this isn't because it is too unfair, it's because if you set the campaign around the idea of abusing the game, you, the VS player, is going to have a horrible time.

Yes, but also they don't pay their writers enough to BE good. Like, gak, I wouldn't put maximum effort into a product for what they pay.

And they can treat all their new fire-and-forget boxed games like that for all I care. But this isn't any run-of-the-mill sort of game. This is Necromunda!

To change the topic slightly, I can comment on some of the good things about the new Outcast book:
-cleaned up psychic powers, each discipline now has 6 basic powers
-free boost to psykers from the start for having all their powers from a single discipline
-new gang is super flexible, giving great usage for all alliances (and those expensive FW minis)
-new leader can be anything, so you could have a gang lead by a spawn! Or even a caryatid (who in turn can have their own caryatid as a pet). Could probably break some things, but it sounds so funny, I have to appreciate that.
-some of the new weapons from N20+ are now universally available, bringing the trading post up to date (greatsword, cleaver, grav pistol, solid ammo for sawn-off shotgun, some combi ammo for nade launcher, heavy club, polearm, power claw and whip)

Still cannot recommend this book, but it undeniably has some positive changes.

I tend to see it when a topic/thread/game has only a few active threads which are often active with the same people and the conversation isn't focused around models/purchases. In general they tend to end up focusing down on rules and then there's the GW Rules Death Spiral because they always tend to go the same way because GW has the same issues across the board that tend to go unresolved which just generates a continual conversation death spiral.

I'm happy with several games, believe it or not. Like kill team, blood bowl and underworlds. Expansions seem to work out of the box, modular and compatible with the rest of the game. FAQ/Errata gives an impression someone at GW cares about those games (clarifying and fixing stuff, in general quality updates).

I never turned down a game based solely on the ruler it uses.

At least not until Kill Team 2021.

Well, this book is like previous Necromunda expansion books : a sandbox with very interesting ideas to use for the arbitrator.

I mostly agree with Goonhammer's review, honestly : https://www.goonhammer.com/necromunday-house-of-the-outcast-reviewed/.

Yes. The symbols are easily translated to inches, it's just annoying. It doesn't effect the game

GW will, however, add more and more and more rules to kill team until it's a bloated mess. Because that's how they make money. Churn

The civilized world uses the metric system.
Inches are a thing of the past - and afaik not even allowed to be used in games sold in Japan, etc.
Probably the real reason why the went for symbols instead...

Uh yeah. Sure. Cause Japan is well known for their draconian anti-inch laws.

(40k and Fantasy are both sold in Japan)

That isn't what I was disputing, but games that use inches being banned in Japan? Yeah... sure.

Ok, the Underhive Market rules are pretty simple.

Basically they're normal cover, but if they get hit with a blast weapon there's a good chance the stall gets turned into rubble, and they automatically catch fire if hit with something that can cause fire.

You can loot stalls during the game, and there's a chart that may see you get a booby trap, some credits, a basic weapon or a random rare weapon.

Market Stalls also act as ammo crates, and you can reload Single Shot weapons on a 4+.

Seems quite reasonable for what they should do.

Sounds reasonable enough, and decent in-game.

The map is cute but honestly the world is not enmeshed in some binary Imperial vs Metric war.

Different countries and industries use the measurements they're used to and may use several systems at once. In the US liquids might be sold in liters or gallons. In the Philippines people gave their heights in feet and inches not centimeters. In Japan inches are used for some odds and ends like TV sizes. In China older measures of weight like the Jin and Liang are used for selling food. In Guyana roads were in Kilometers but villages were named for their mile markings (ie 47 mile village, 47 miles down the road from the coast to Brazil). Shipping containers around the world are measured in feet, oil in barrels (including in the Arab world), cargo in shipping tons (cubic feet). Paper is rated in how many pounds a ream (500 pages) weighs. Ships use Knots, nautical miles (1.15 miles). Measurement is an important an complex subject and there is no single world wide system for all countries and industries.

GW has made centimeter based games before (Epic and BFG come to mind) but haven't in a while. I think inches, like carats in jewelry and other odd measures are accepted worldwide.

And certainly there is no anti-inch law in Japan.

Anyway back on subject, how about that Necromunda market huh? I bet the merchants are always trying to used Mordian Kilos (0.85 Necromundan kilograms because of the gravity differences) to rip people off.

I took a glance at the new book and Outcast gang is the ultimate "playing for what ever you like" experience. Champ and ganger are dirt chep, while champ can pick the skill they want individually with archetype.

The outcast leaders have better stat than the average gang leader, and the special rule that disbanded the gang and create new one when leader die, with some elements carry over encourage players to have leader be more reckless, or just playing with more fun and meme buid without worry much about being punished for that.

I've been reading through it as well. I like it. Seems I can make a real Delaque gang with it as well, even with Wyrds, which is nice.

Of course now it makes me want proper Wyrds (including Beastmasters) even more. I suppose "The Book of Stuff We Left Out of the Last One" will be the next release.

Well of course not, 'cause that war ended a long time ago. Metric won. The losers are just backwards countries unable to move forwards, or Liberia/Myanmar.

Australia was actually a significant force in both the Vietnam and Afghanistan wars. Without getting into the rights and wrongs of either conflict, the Aussies are generally acknowledged to be very good at anti-insurgency operations. Their role shouldn't be dismissed.

Or, to misquote a former POTUS: "You forgot PolandAustralia!"

A little bit of righteous anger now and then is good, actually. Don't trust a person who never gets angry.
