Wondering Why the Emperor Left
The Warp
|
I had an interesting idea (and it would save money too!). I plan on taking some chaos space marine models and...green gooing them up to make plague marines. The idea is to make it look like they are at least partially covered in goo and more importantly, make it look like stuff is leaking from their armor say at joints, or even the helmet lenses. Anyone have any good technique and color suggestions to make this happen? The marines will be word bearers, black legion, maybe some other random color variants (they are rescues).

"The uniforms of the Imperial guard are camouflaged in order to protect their wearers by hiding them from sight. the principle is that what the enemy cannot see, he cannot kill. This is not the way of the Adeptus Astartes. A Space Marine's armour is bright with heraldry that proclaims his devotion to his Chapter and the beloved Emperor of Mankind. Our principle is that what the enemy can see, he will soon learn to fear." -The codex Astartes

Not so keen on 'covered in slime', but 'slime oozing from armour joints and holes' sounds creepier and cooler and fluffier. You just need to avoid the 'whoops, accidentally used too much glue' look
That said, careful use of glue may be the easiest way to acheive the effect on plastic models. It also gives you a great excuse to get out the razor saw and cut along armour lines before regluing (with extra ooze) for some great conversion poses.

yeah i like the idea of oozing puss and stuff from the armour. I would think a good way to do this is to use the liquid green stuff, tho i think you may have t make it thicker so that it is runny but will not run completely off the model, maybe mixing it with flour or actual glue? i dunno.
1 other way is to maybe lightly scratch out the outline of the ooze on the marine with an exacto or whatever, when you have the little etchings ready then put a little line of green stuff...like a wall so to speak. That way when you put liquid green stuff or glue or whatever, it will coalesce in at the walls giving that oozy goo look.
but yeah not really sure as to an effective method. Might have to do a little trial and error mate.

I was going to try something sort of similar. I am going to use Dark Angels vets models and paint them all nasty and rotten looking and call them Plague Monks.

if you add some future floor wax to a color you can simulate a wet sheen look. so what I'd try if I was going for this effect would be to paint everything first, hit it with a matte sealer then use the future + paint mix and start streaking the armor from the desired leaky spots. Before you try it on a real model though I'd recommend trying it on a spare piece of sprue or plastic part first. This technique is actually something I read in a military modelling forum used to simulate oily gears or gun barrels.

Some solid ideas, a question though, when you mention floor wax and paint, would I mix them together to make one gloopy mess? The liquid greenstuff may have some potential there too. razieltemplar that is a pretty accurate picture of what I was thinking combine that with commisarbob's pic of the leaky pack and and that is the effects I was looking for.
