We finally were able to get together for our annual Nid Bash Apocalypse game and they have been getting bigger and bigger. In the first year it started off with just a few big bugs and a lot of small ones. Now there's actually more big bugs than small ones. Same went with the Imperium. I remember our very first Nid Bash only had 1 Warhound Titan. Nowadays, they've got more super-heavies than they have regular forces. Anyways, that may all be for the better, because with the swarms/regulars, we would never finish the game in 1 day. With mainly big guys, it was quite conceivable to actually complete the game in just 1 day. Also, this was our chance to showcase/play-test all our big guys who would otherwise never see the light of day.

I'm interested on which rules you'd use for the Dominatrix and the Exocrines.

May you link them to me pls?

As an old Nids lover I'm quitely worried... I may imagine a very hard time with all these D-weapons on the field.

Another little question. Does you plaied it with 5th ed. rules or with everything already updated with 6th. rules?

It's the BOLS pdf that you can download from Scribd.com (just do a search for Lords of Battle v2).

Basically, the Dominatrix is a 1750pt version of the Heirophant but with only 1 bio-cannon and some other rules.

The Exocrine carries a 6-shot bio-cannon like the Barbed Hierodule.

We played it with the 6th Edition Apoc update, though we weren't particularly strict with the rules. If there was anything we weren't sure about, we just house-ruled it or high-rolled it in the interest of saving time.

Yeah, that's a lot of D-weapons they have and it's very nasty. I was "urging" my partner to reserve most of our big bugs and bring them in from reserves on Turn 1, but he didn't want to play so "strategically". Thus, we kept most of the big bugs on the board so that they can shoot at them (BTW, we gave them 1st turn).

Sounds like a good one, my money's on the 'Nids for this, I doubt that even with that many Destroyers they'll be able to take out the larger beasts like the Dominatrix before it's too late.

The Imperials will have a slight advantage in that they will be going first. However, that is compensated somewhat by them letting us "buy" the Careful Planning Strategic Asset (for +250 pts) where our reserves will start coming in on Turn 1 instead.

Those are exocrines. They are gargantuan creatures who carry a bio-cannon.

Just think of it as a slightly better tyrannofex, only with T7, 5W, 3+ and 6 S10 shots instead for almost 100pts more. More importantly, it can't be 1-shotted/insta-gibbed by those D-weapons.

Here's a few more pics of my WIP (Work-in-Progress) Dominatrix, based off of the Alien Queen from the McFarlance series. She is not even done yet, but at least I managed to slap some paint on her before the game.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Mission: Total Annihilation

Unlike typical Apoc games where you play objectives, here we just decided to play "see which side can kill the most stuff". We used straight Victory Points, with each Structure Point on a Super-heavy vehicle equal to 1 VP and every 2 Wounds on a Gargantuan Creature equal to 1 VP. Thus, for example, the Warlord Titan would be worth 9 VP's (9 structure points) and the 10-Wounds Hierophant Bio-titan worth 5 VP's.

We will count the bonuses except for Slay the Warlord (neither side had a Warlord....well, at least the bugs didn't ).

Deployment: Custom Hammer & Anvil

Initiative: Imperials

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Deployment:

Imperial deployment. The vendettas are not actually there as they have to start off in reserves.

Also, our opponents made a mistake and deployed Mephiston in the LR with his terminators, thinking that he was an Independent Character. No biggie though.

Bug deployment. We deploy most of our big guys with the exception of the Dominatrix and the Harridan.

In reserves, besides the 2 big guys, are all the trygons, the flyrants, the carnifexes, zoanthropes, Doom, venomthrope, ymgarls and all the biovores. I was actually going to deploy my biovores but in the excitement of putting the big guys on the table, totally forgot about them. Lol. Anyways, that probably worked out for the best.

Now it's time to take the pain from the Imperials initial alpha-strike.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Imperium 1

Spoiler:

Not much Imperial movement. Their entire Movement phase probably took 1 or 2 minutes only. Lol.

Then....WHAM!!!

Bugs get hit and they get hit hard.

When the dust settles....

The dead pile:

Imperials wipe out 1 bio-titan, 3 barbed hierodules, 2 exocrines and the venomthrope.

In addition, they draw First Blood.

In just 1 turn of shooting, the Imperium takes out 4100-pts of bugs. They also take a commanding 20-0 VP lead.

Tyranids 1

Spoiler:
Because of Careful Planning, tyranid reserves come in starting on Turn 1.

Both tervigons cast Iron Arm.

Harridan comes in just right behind the Warlord. We played it that apoc flyers can deploy anywhere on the board (that was how it was in 5th). Actually, we played it that all flyers can deploy anywhere on the board.

Trygons start popping up all over the place. Carnifexes drop down on their "disappearing" mycetic spores (we didn't have enough spore models).

Another 2 trygons come out here. 1 trygon actually scatters off the board and goes back into reserves.

Here comes the big boss and a couple of flyrants.

On the other side of the board, the other 4 flyrants come in.

Finally the surviving bugs advance.

Flyrants only manage to take off 2 hull points from a banewolf.

I've only got 42 S10 shots left (out of 106!!!), of which 30 were directed at a stormlord and shadowsword. Damage was minimal. I believe we only did 1 Drive Damaged and took off a couple of hull points.

The harridan, however, did much better with its shooting. Being within the warlord titan's void shield range (so that it couldn't benefit from its void shields), the harridan managed to strip off 6 hull points and shake one of its Destroyer guns.

Finally, there is only 1 assault this turn. The scythed hierodule reduces a leman russ into scrap metal.

Imperium: 20, Tyranids: 1

Imperium 2

Spoiler:

Vendetta comes in from reserves and puts 1 Wound on the harridan with its lascannons.

It is here that we find out that Mephiston was embarked in the land raider with the terminators, so we just played it that he was hiding behind the LR. In any case, he casts 2 psychic powers successfully but fails and perils while trying to cast Warp Speed.

Terminators disembark.

Their other LR moves 6" and out disembarks the other terminators, ready to kick a$$ and take names.

40 melta-vets disembark from the 2 stormlords and get ready to nuke some trygons. Along with the lascannon sentinels, they nuke the left, blue trygon.

2 more units of veterans disembark from their chimeras. They put a couple of wounds on the trygons.

Tanks mobilize.

Imperials manage to put 1 Wound on the flyrant but he stays up in the air.

Imperial titans and super-heavy tanks focus on the 2 gargantuans. They almost succeed in finishing off the Hierophant. The 10W beast is down to just 1W remaining.

Finally, we go to assault. Terminators assault the trygon.

He manages to survive with just 1W left, though he does kill off 1 terminator.

Mephiston then charges the carnifex. Without re-rolls to hit and because he already used up all his Warp Charge, Mephiston only deals 1W of damage to the carnifex and takes 3W of damage in return.

Terminators finish off the carnifex that they charged.

And now, the body count continues.

Even the ultra-tough Dominatrix with its holo-fields could not survive the onslaught of destroyer weapons. He is the main casualty of the turn, along with the scythed hierodule, flyrant, tervigon, carnifex and 2 trygons.

That's another 3500-pts of nids and another +13 VP's!

Oh, I forgot, tyranids also kill a unit of 5 ratlings last turn.

Imperium: 33, Tyranids: 2

Tyranids 2

Spoiler:
It is looking really bleak for tyranids, but now, the Hive Mind has a new goal. Our mission objective - to kill as many titans as possible....especially the Warlord Titan. Hey, we may lose the war, but we are sure going to do our damnedest to win this one battle.

By the ways, one of the newer players finally shows up will his 1800-pts of grey knights so to balance it out, we revived our hierophant bio-titan and 2 trygons (1650-pts).

3 trygons come in - 1 that mishapped last turn and 2 new ones. The 2 units of zoanthropes pop out of the trygon holes. The Doom drops in.

Ymgarls come out from terrain and prepare to assault the hamminators. TMC's (Tyranid monstrous creatures) move towards the titans.

Hierophant comes in from reserves and flyrant prepares to assault the Reaver Titan. Flyrant casts Warp Speed.

On the left flank, 2 of the flyrants glide and prepare to assault the shadowsword. They cast Iron Arm to become T9!!!

Hierophant advances. It only regenerates 1 Wound. Flyrant in front of it maintains its flight.

Harridan goes into hover mode in preparation for assault. He shoots the Warlord and does more damage than the rest of the bug army combined. He does 18 hull points of damage just with his shooting alone!!!

Overview of the battlefield from the Warlord's perspective.

Both hierophants and the 6 zoans focus on the 2 reavers. Zoans are within void shield range. In any case, hierophants bring down all the void shields and do some damage, though the reavers still have the majority of their Structure and hull points intact.

Everyone then charges the 2 reavers.

The first reaver gets assaulted by the 2 flyrants and a trygon. All TMC's attempt to smash.

It is badly damaged, immobilized, stripped of 2 weapons and shaken.

The other Reaver gets wrecked by 2 trygons and 1 carnifex. Too bad it didn't go nuclear.

The hierophant assaults the plasma executioner and blows it up.

Only 1 flyrant makes it into assault with the shadowsword. The other one fails its charge. Exocrine assaults the banewolf.

BTW, the ogryns are falling back from biovore shooting. They would continue to fall back for the rest of the game.

Exocrine blows up the banewolf....

....and the flyrant blows up the shadowsword.

A lone trygon assaults a warhound and single-handedly smashes it to oblivion. Again, it doesn't go nuclear.

Hamminator wipes out the trygon they were in combat with.

Mephiston finishes off the carnifex with a force weapon in Shadows range.

Finally, the harridan assaults the Warlord.

Before the assault....

Yes, you guessed it.....

Someone went NUCLEAR!!!! 22" Destroyer blast....BOOYAHHHH!!!!!!!!!

After the assault....

The body count rises.

Of the dead pile here, only the carnifex, a couple of ymgarls and 1 trygon were killed by the enemy in assault. The rest was killed in the nuclear holocaust (including the mycetic spore not pictured).

The Imperials, on the other hand, lost:

Warlord
1 Reaver
1 Warhound
1 Shadowsword
Banewolf
Manticore
Medusa
Plasmacutioner
2x Basilisks
2x Chimeras
4x Veteran squads
Ogryns (falling back for the rest of the game)

In addition, the land raider is immobilized from the blast and all the superheavies are down 1 void shield.

Imperium: 41, Tyranids: 38

Imperium 3

Spoiler:

Grey Knight dreadnought comes in from reserves. Another chimera moves and drops off some melta-vets.

GK land raider comes in and drops off some grey knight strikers. GK stormraven moves in hover mode and drops off Draigo and paladins. Along with Mephiston, they are going to kill some TMC's.

Draigo splits from the paladins to go after the other flyrant.

The 2nd vendetta comes in right behind our wounded hierophant.

Imperial shooting grounds all 2 or maybe even all 3 flyrants.

2 flyrants are killed, another takes 2W and the exocrine takes 4W.

Shooting also takes off 3W from the trygon that just came in again last turn. Terminators then assault and kill it.

Guardsmen takes off 3W from the Doom, who was Toughness 6 and Eternal Warrior thanks to Iron Arm.

Finally, the Imperials manage to knock off 4W from the newly arrived bio-titan.

After shooting, the hierophant and 2 flyrants are dead.

We then go onto assault. GK strikers and Mephiston both charge the trygon.

It doesn't survive.

Draigo assaults 1 flyrant. The paladins assault the other.

Paladins kill their flyrant.

So in this turn, Imperials kill the hierophant, 3 flyrants and 2 trygons. They also take off 4W from the new hierophant and 4W off of the exocrine for a total of +14 VP's.

Imperium: 55, Tyranids: 38

After this turn, the GK player who just came in had to leave (actually, between turns 2 and 3 he was here for 3+ hours). Thus, he took his army with him and we removed the extra bio-titan to compensate. So the GK's come in for a quickie and then take off.

Tyranids 3

Spoiler:
Ok, this is most likely going to be the very last turn. We've already been here for over 6 hours.

Harridan goes after another warhound.

Zoanthropes and carnifexes go after the stormlord.

Flyrant cannot reach the other baneblade so instead opts for the leman russ exterminator.

At my "urgings", zoeys direct their attention towards Mephiston and take him out. For some reason, I just wanted him dead.

Harridan shoots down the warhound, causing it to explode (though it did not go nuclear).

He then assaults the closest target that he could reach....the basilisk. Needless to say, it goes KABOOM!

All of a sudden freed because Draigo disappeared back into the Warp, the flyrant goes after the reaver titan.

He goes KABOOM! as well.

The carnifexes combo-charge the stormlord.

Yup, you guessed it....KABOOM!

Lastly, the leman russ goes KABOOM! thanks to my flyrant.

So on this turn, the final turn, tyranids kill:

Reaver titan
Warhound
Stormlord
Mephiston
Basilisk
Leman Russ

Tyranids also get Linebreaker for +16 VP's.

Imperium: 55, Tyranids: 54

Because there may have been some units killed that I left out or forget about, I am going to declare this game close enough to be considered a

Draw!!!

Aftermath of the carnage.

We weren't playing a highly competitive Apoc game so decided not to get too tactical. But I reserved the dominatrix anyways because I knew he wouldn't survive if they focused on him.

Yeah, that many destroyer blasts will waste any army other than daemons. Daemons with their Eternal Warriors and Invulns are this army's achilles heel.

Hard to say. With their remaining firepower - 1 shadowsword and the warhound - they could've definitely wiped out the rest of my TMC's. However, they didn't really have anything that could kill a flying gargantuan - the harridan. If the game went on, they'd probably kill another 3-4 monstrous creatures. Then the harridan would go after and probably kill another warhound and the zoans will go after tanks. It might still have been a draw. And if the game continued after that, the harridan might have gone on to eventually wipe out almost everything on the board (but that'll probably take 10+ turns to do so).

Sounds almost like a made-for-Hollywood-action-movie there.

Well, he's only got 12 S10 shots (same as the barbed hierodule). However, I was rolling very hot with him. Most of his shots hit, penetrated and I got a few structural damage and chain reactions on the titan damage table. But more importantly, he was within the Titan's void shield range, meaning it couldn't use it's void shields to absorb any of those shots. But his shooting balanced out the rest of my gargantuan shootings, which was quite frankly horrible. They had to get through I believe 12 void shields from the 2 reavers and then I rolled horribly on the armour penetration.

So after killing the Warlord, a warhound and a basilisk (3300+ pts ), Harry the harridan is definitely the MVP for the bugs.

Starting out with some bugs on the table certainly does have a special feel to it. Kind of nasty how that first round of shooting went though, especially as it seems like you'd planned on going reserves when you ended up going second. Still, as long as the game was fun the rest doesn't matter.

Never really enjoyed Apoc reports before, but this looked like pure fun. Grand, great report, thanks!

"A human being is a part of a whole, called by us _universe_, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest... a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty." - A.E.

I'd definitely have to say the Warlord Titan as MVP for the Imperials. He had the most firepower and did the most damage to the tyranid gargantuans. If not for him, they wouldn't have been able to take out our Gargants so easily. Even in death, he took out a decent chunk out of our army, killing 5 trygons and change.

Great report. Helped silencing my conscience when dealing with buying too much Trygons as well.

From the initial Age of Sigmar news thread, when its "feature" list was first confirmed:

A collosal, terrible, flaming, hysterical train wreck with burning clowns running around spraying it with seltzer bottles while ring masters cry out how everything is fine and we should all come in while the dancing elephants lurch around leaving trails of blood behind them.

How could I look away?

I'm still in debate on this one but can a SR arrive from reserves in hover mode? I thought all fliers had to zoom on and then switch modes on the next turn?

Yeah, I loved those trygon models. When I first started playing the new nids back then, I was running a more assault-based tyranid list with triple-trygons. Nowadays, my trygons only come out to play in games of Apoc as I am running a more shooty tyranid build with biovores in regular games.

Probably not as they cannot assault on the turn they come in from reserves....but we weren't playing too strict on the rules. Besides, it would have really sucked for the kid to have his raven come in and do nothing only for him to have to go next turn. In the spirit of "fun", we just let him come in and assault.

Wow. That's a LOT of very large bugs, almost all of whom died very quickly. Good to see that the Harridan is suddenly so viable - it's a huge weakness of D-weapons, that they can't hit flyers at all. Need more Flyrants! With Smash, they actually have a decent chance of doing some damage in a round of combat.

Agree with Jan, good to see the Harridan doing well, always loved the model and idea of it.
